Mistreach Keep
Located at the center of the commons, this large structure dominates the center of Kalzasi and stands as a last line of defense between the people of the city and the nightmares of The Warrens. Home to the Sky Guard, this structure is a sign of the strength of Kalzasi and the responsibility the Sky Guard must bear. Its walls are steep and sheer, with the only entry and exit to the Keep found on the Southside where a single iron banded gate rests and is guarded day and night. The Avialae patrol the air, walking the walls and cliff faces for signs of break-ins, and more ominously breakouts. Beyond the obvious signs of defense, there are a series of invisible magical protections as well that will not activate unless triggered.
Despite the defenses, there is a steady stream of bodies that pass through the single gateway every day. The young and foolish, old veterans and aspiring adventurers alike seek to challenge the dangers of the Warrens or more specifically seek to acquire the riches and treasures within. Mistreach Keep noticeably stands out from the other structures of Kalzasi. It is not colorful or given an artistic flourish, it takes most of its aesthetic inspiration from the ancient Orkhan monk mentality of humility and simplicity. It serves a purpose, and it serves it well.
The structure is guarded at all times, and the large majority of Kalzasi's military force can be housed within if needed. Guards can train here, eat here, sleep here. Food and supplies are delivered to the keep daily via caravans, a job that most new recruits have the pleasure of assisting with as one has to carry the heavy crates up a flight of nearly 1000 steps. There is an air about the keep which sobers even the most boastful youth. It is faint, but there is always a slight scent of blood on the air once one passes within the cold walls toward the Yawning Chasm beyond.
