Mino didn’t know what it was, but he would appreciate it if it would quiet down. The whistle had changed to a whine, persistent in his ears. He suspected, that if he had taken a beast form, this would have been so much worse. It only seemed to add to his discomfort that he was the only one that appeared to hear the sound. Sometimes, there weren’t really perks to his lineage. A quick breath sucked in as he shook his head, as if it might dislodge the source of whatever produced the whine from his head. But — it wouldn’t be that easy.

Again, whatever it was caused a great deal of excitement in the mage. Enough that he pressed beyond the tour to the next exhibit. Rational parts of Mino — instinct, mostly — seemed to find this a not good idea. But if the mage were interested as he were in something other than the riveting exhibit they found themself in, it must be something of value. Which was something that would be worth enough to push past that instinctual urge to turn and leave.

But, it wasn’t like Mino was known for making particularly smart choices.

Which was entirely why he followed after Odinson. Step for step, almost. Just a slight hesitation as the whine grew worse. You can help me. A bold assertion this mage made. The rathari’s brows rose, smile on his lips. Interesting, but — “What, exactly, do I get out of this?” Thumb and forefinger pinching together to form a circle, leveled over his heart. Mostly obscured from anyone that would be behind them. “How much is that thing worth, even? I don’t do antyhing for nothing, and I’m not feeling particularly charitable at the moment.”

He approached the case the mage stood before, eyes narrowing. He would say that he was okay as far as appraisals went. It would probably be best to get most of this back to the house and — well. There he was, making plans already. But, that’d kind of been the reason for partaking in this tour in the first place.

Avamande had actually been quite content to hear about the skeletal dragons. The creatures had always drawn the mage's interest for their wisdom, might, and the sheer sense of time that their elder possessed. They were somewhat sad to see the exhibit, the notion of such majestic beings perishing long before their time and put on display feeling... wrong. Still, Boris was able to keep their attention with his speech, and nothing could distract them from it.

Absolutely. Nothing.

On reflection, they did not rightly know why they followed Odison deeper into the hall a few minutes after he had first abandoned the tour group. Maybe it was the strange whine at the very edge of their perception. Maybe it was because the man seemed to know much, and whatever took his interest was clearly something worth caring about. And then he spoke, and Avamande considered turning directly upon their heel and returning to Boris.

But they did not.

This was absurd. This was theft, and from a museum no less. Already talk of compensation was flitting about, as if there was any doubt about the unseemliness of the situation. Still, something was... off. Even the stodgy Hytori was forced to admit that there was an air of destiny about. That infernal whine only increased as the strange man approached the runed fragments of the arms of kings of eld.

Perhaps it was Charles' influence on them. Or just an inborn sense of curiosity that had remained even when the rest of their emotions had withered away. Did it truly matter?

"Explain. What is this shard to you? Why should you have it?" they asked, pressing Odinson. "Desire alone is not reason for acquisition, despite what our companion appears to believe." They paused for a moment, and then decided to ask the final and most important question of the man. "Who are you?"

"If someone breaks the case, I can control the crowd." Charlie piped up, more casually than any thief had a right to be. Stealing wasn't exactly Charlie's specialty. In fact by most metrics he was quite bad at it. That didn't stop him from engaging in it often, though admittedly he was less inclined to do so against his own people. There was an entire world of people to swindle, no sense tarnishing his stellar reputation in Kalzasi.

He swaggered to the front of the pack and looked at the case, getting a look at what the man actually wanted stolen. Charlie frowned. It was junk! At least, it looked like junk. Charlie was almost ready to rescind his offer when the far more intelligent Avamande spoke up, and Charlie learned the power of forming even a single thought before he opened his mouth and got himself in more trouble.

"Yeah, what they said. Just looks like volcanic glass to me." Sure, obsidian polished up really nicely and made for some lovely jewelry, but even Charlie could tell that wasn't why it was coveted. In the back of his mind he knew it was important. It had to be. It sat among the relics of fallen warriors, but was displayed with neither reverie nor fanfare. The way the man spoke about it certainly made it seem grand, but then why did it look so forgotten? Charlie cursed himself for only being interested in history when trying to court a scholar. He cursed himself even more that it hadn't worked.

Regardless of Odison's reason, Charlie himself was on board, but he stood near Avamande. His own willbending skill meant little if Avamande simply negated it because they disapproved. Plus, they were friends! Charlie would hate to get his friend in any sort of trouble they didn't want to be in. How considerate.
