For the past few seasons Dakkur pretty much had the run Zaichaer, so to speak, as neither he nor his aunt had much to ask of one another most of the time; the rarity of a request from her such as this one therefore was something he would of course pay attention to and endeavor to fulfill to the best of his ability. However a social gathering, even if it was a party to be enjoyed, was beyond his purview and he brought attention to that fact by pointing out to his aunt he was the more reserved sort who enjoyed his own company. If that was not enough, there was the obvious question of what was he going to talk about with the elite and influential of Zaichaer. History? Well she got him there but even in that subject, his knowledge looked towards the east of the region rather than the city itself- a city he had no other interest with other than being a convenience to him. The idea of getting an in with the professors was an idea he was not adverse to however, in contrast to his aunt's request; he only needed to show his face at the party so it would not seem as though she herself had the intention to skip the event.

She reminded him in parting some points on not sticking out like a sore thumb in such a setting while getting along with the other guests and, getting distracted by everything new he saw. It was also important to remind him to not make her look bad while he was there on her behalf and then, some other things which he thought was already obvious. Subjects like the current affairs of the city, other than the obvious looming overhead, and etiquette were far too much to stuff into him under such short notice and he was only given some notes to use- just some so he does not get overwhelmed and confused. Going through his instructions right until the end being his priority and, something he wanted to conclude, even the sight of the limping moratallen was something which could easily be missed and soon forgotten as Dakkur quickly fulfilled his obligations in making his brief introductions with the hostess Mrs. Fletcher, passing over the appreciation and gift of his aunt and then, making his way over towards the garden which he would stay at thereafter.

Not being in his element it was not like Dakkur was paying attention to every single gathering going on nor was he familiar with every, or in his case any, face he saw or names he heard around him; his own interests were more than sufficient to keep him occupied in the garden with the professors which were brought in as he tried to learn a little more about the Greater Institute and their activities and, sigh, the history of the city itself since that was the obvious reason those people had been gathered at all. However the character of some of the conversations he could hear around him changed and looking at the reason he could see why- not. To him it was just another group in all pageantry so- oh. Even he had heard of the new Undersecretary appointment, his aunt made sure of that much to point out all the opportunities he could still have in Zaichaer even as a non human. Maybe he should ask the man for some tips.

Although the group was already quite sizable so he decided he could always wait for some other chance and instead continued talking with the professors he was with, slowly changing the subject to what could be the new norm of the city since there was now a non human holding such a nice position compared to how it was in the past- had there been any attempts like that before and how did those turn out were but some of the questions he asked. This inevitably led to the subject of the former monarchy and the old families of Zaichaer, some which still existed to this day like their hosts, as suggested by the clothes of one of the Undersecretary's company. This led to Dakkur learning a little more about the identities of the other members of the groupwhich turned out to be quite the ensemble especially in those thought to be representative of the new guard of the city.

Which soon led his conversation with the scholars to some more interesting topics of what the future could hold, although it also was noticeable to him to be a subject they were more guarded about talking compared to the history they were allowed to so freely share about earlier.

A blush, like a flower.

Ursula saw the pink spread across Brenner’s face. She noticed that he stepped aside. Ursula’s eyes watched them both, before landing to the space between them, wondering.

“Oh - oh, yes,” she said, remembering herself. The party. “Congratulations, Undersecretary Albrecht. It’s an honor to receive you at my family’s home. I know you will make Zaichaer proud.”

She smiled and smiled and smiled. It was easier, her mother said, to smile instead of wonder. Thinking was, her mother said, the root of almost every problem. And, besides, the potential match of Fletcher to Dornkirk was far too valuable to be risked for a curious look. A blush bloom was nothing compared to legacy.

“Mr. Michaelis!” Oh, what a surprise to have seen Anton out and about. The rumors had whispered him dead of some disease or another. Her mother was sociable with his but she hadn’t grown up seeing Anton outside the odd glimpse or two.

And he’d brought a couch. “How kind of you, Mr. Michaelis,” Ursula said, “We should be so honored.” It seemed an old thing. The pattern of it was something she’d seen in her grandmother’s apartments when she was still alive. Still, a gift was a gift was a gift.

“And it a treasure to see yours, Mr. Arnnett,” Ursula smiled, and she tried her best to radiate warmth and hospitality, “I appreciate that you all have thought to grace my mother’s saloon - there,” she pointed, at the beginning of the path, “Is where you might start. We’d asked a few professors to attend to various points along the garden and they’ll lecture on some century or important event to our great city’s history.”

She wondered if she was jealous - but of who? Myles? Or Brenner?

It was always known she wouldn’t be allowed to marry Myles. Something he killed by refusing his family’s help in his professional career. And Brenner Dorkirk made sense. He made sense for her and her family. It made sense and there was logic and reason and there wasn’t any reason she should want anything else.

“And - we have refreshments of course,” Ursula said, catching Myles’ arm in hers, a friendly gesture. Her mother would glare if she saw her, so boldly holding to her friend instead of the Commander.

“Gelarian Schnapps, champagne, and charcuterie. Let’s all stop there before we begin the official tour?”

"Mr. Michaelis." Brenner inclined his head to the lordling. He hadn't seen the lad since his debut and part of him was surprised to see him out and about so soon after the coup. He knew House Michaelis hadn't been a direct target of Kelgarde's when she seized the assets of several other old families, but he knew many were keeping their heads down while the dust yet settled. It was ironic, he realised, that he'd criticised Florian's presence at Anton's event, only to be the one to bring him to this one months later. As his status in Zaichaeri society shifted so too, it seemed, did his priorities. His attention was drawn to Myles and a smile spread across his fair countenance.

"Flatterer!" His blush deepened as Arnnett spoke in terms ambiguous enough to feel like flirtation, but without the burden of clarity that could complicate the social situation unduly. "I think everyone knows yours is the face of Zaichaer. I..." He executed a playfully flourishing bow, "...am but the voice." He cast a wink to Myles, then cleared his throat and turned his attention to their hostess.

"Gelerian schnapps, but how splendid! Did Myles give me up and tell you my favourite spirit? Truly, Miss Fletcher, you know the way to a man's heart often detours through his liver." He chuckled as he made his way over to survey the offerings of the refreshment tables. He started, of course, with the aforementioned schnapps plucking up a snifter and holding it under his nose. He would wait for others to collect their drinks before actually sipping, though, as it was customary to begin with a toast.

The First Minister stepped to the side to grant access to other guests as he eyed the food on offer, mentally selecting which morsels he would pick out when the opportunity presented itself.
