Appearance
Emryn sports a short, slender frame and mid-back length white locks that contrast nicely with their darker tan skin. A tangle of sycamore-textured antlers sprout forth from their forehead and crown their head. Emryn’s piercing golden eyes, reflecting their years of hardship belie their hope. One would have difficulty discerning Emryn’s gender at a glance, even a second glance. A long, white peach-fuzz tail sways back and forth lazily and ends in a tuft of long thick white hair.
Emryn likes to wear sheer silken robes that cascade down their form in layers and allow their skin to breathe in the sweltering Solunarian heat. When on duty with the Sentinels, they wear the traditional black uniform and veil.
Personality
Emryn has been through some tough times since their birth. They tend to be quiet and reserved in strange company. They still suffer some trauma from their time as a slave to particularly cruel owners. Most would see Emryn as a cold, cynical pessimist, though that is all but a mask to protect themself. They are inquisitive and love nature, the deadlier the more fascinating. Emryn is a fierce protector of the innocent and those they care about.
In private, Emryn loves to laugh and has a bountiful and joyous soul.
History
Emryn has been alone since they can remember. They were told their family were slaves and now Emryn was too: “Such is your lot in life”. Bought, sold, traded, stolen, rescued; their hopes had been bolstered and blown to bits countless times. They have been forced to endure cruel and vile treatment, and on rare occasions to mete out that same treatment upon others. There were good times as well, but those were few and far between.
Life ebbed and flowed around Emryn like the mighty river Vasta. As much as they tried to be carried away within its vibrant waters, they seemed to be stuck as though they found themself stranded on a small, dusty island that forked the bountiful waters.
Time passed and Emryn eventually found themself under the ownership of a peculiar, rugged-looking man. This man reminded Emryn of themself—quiet, reserved, but most of all: alone.
This human, simply known as Colt, was an experienced Negator that offered his services to those who could afford him to cross the Atraxian Expanse. Emryn never knew what Colt had seen in them, or why he purchased them. Perhaps it was because of Emryn’s unique metabolism that meant they wouldn’t need as many food rations or perhaps Colt just liked the quiet company, but nevertheless, Colt began to train Emryn as an apprentice.
When Colt bestowed the Cardinal Rune of Negation to Emryn he made a point not to be gentle. “Remember this pain,” he said. “This pain will remind you of those you fail.”
Emryn and Colt travelled together for years, never learning—in words—more than what could be said in the span of a single breath. They did however learn much of each other's skills and talents, some general likes and dislikes, what sparked some semblance of joy, what hurt.
Emryn even became a half-decent Negator and helped ply Colt’s trade. Emryn felt as if they could finally reach a hand into that river of life that rushed past him. They could feel an emotional connection to Colt, a desire to stay with him. Emryn wondered if this was what freedom was like; they felt the desire to do something and so they did.
In the end, it seemed as though this “River of Life” is nothing but cruel.
