“It feels…” Aoren searched for the right words in response to Hilana. “Like it would pull me into the darkness too, if I let it.”
Aoren’s expression went a little distant.
“It wants to spread. To consume me and everything in this world. To drown the whole of it in a darkness so deep that nothing can escape.” The rune writhed over Aoren’s skin. The umbral mark seemed to grow. Reflexively, Aoren reached out and laced his fingers with Talon. As soon as he did, the mark settled and Aoren shook off that distant look. He blinked, focusing on Hilana.
“Were it not for Talon--Daemon--I would be a much darker man.” Aoren gave a grim smile. Daemon simply rubbed a thumb over the back of his husband’s hand.
Upon returning from their quick change of clothes so as not to appear so militant, the two of them bowed their heads as they received compliments from Hilana. They followed her out of her apartment and into the bright light of the Luxium. It was a bit off for Daemon. Staring up into the skies he could immediately tell that the radiance illuminating the realm was not natural sunlight. Whether that was a byproduct of his attunement to the powers of Semblance or because of his dominion over the Light, he was not quite sure but it was evident to him nevertheless. He watched as the people of the Luxium went about their business. He did not miss the slight unease in Hilana’s stance as she remained vigilant.
“Rest easy, Hilana. Even if the authorities of the realm seek and find us, our business is peaceful and in support of their continued survival.” Bitter as Thalya and Zalkyriax might be, he did not imagine they would be foolish enough to attack him unprovoked. That being said, if either of them made that mistake, he would not hesitate to defend himself and those in his company.
“I have no doubt that the city is as glamorous during the night as it is in the day. Perhaps one day I will get to see it.” He smiled and continued to follow Hilana until they reached the gates to the Umbrium.
“We will have to seek out the Silver Sentinels, Hilana. They are likely the ones who will best be able to relay our request.” As they continued on their way, Daemon began keeping a lookout for the black garb of the Sentinels.
