Care for a Bite? {Hilana}

The Luxium represents the upper half and primary seat of the Solunarian Capital and one of the dual-cities that comprises Solunarium Proper. Situated between the foot of the volcanic Mount Sorokyn and the wide River Vasta, this above-ground metropolis boasts five thriving districts beneath the shadow of the glorious Palatium Furiarum (The Blazing Palace) from which the Solar Court rules in splendour. This bustling metropolis is by far the most populous region in the realm and, along with its shadowy sister-city the Umbrium, houses upwards of eighty percent of the Solunarian population at any given time. During the reign of a Solar Court, every major government agency in the kingdom is headquartered in the Luxium, with the notable exception of The Silver Sentinels, the covert intelligence agency run by the House of Phaedryn-Sol’Aværys.

"That must be difficult," Hilana ruminated on the consequences about feeding. "To gauge how much you need. It isn't something that can be stockpiled, is it? It won't recover on its own like aether?" The Vastiana took a bite of her food. "And it's harder to get at, especially here, since you can't really feed on anyone local... and your companion that you mentioned certainly can't recover blood that quickly. Even with ample concoctions from herbalism and alchemy, it's still a massive ask on the body."

As she finished her own food, she listened to Dreyfus' explanation regarding what that had felt like, to be exposed to such a thing, and she was certain of one thing: she would not have liked it. "Were you already a vitalisi when you made that foray?" Hilana was curious. "How long ago was this?"

His words gave her much to think about. Most of these names Hilana was largely unfamiliar with, but it would be something to try to learn about. Her family had connections to the world beyond Solunarium simply through her father's vision in terms of merchandising, and her great-aunt might be able to put the order in for those books on the topic. Or she could just ask around at the docks. She was not about to be branded an heretic for this; but she listened solemnly, committing the names he gave her to memory. The Gods had walked amongst them before, ruled them

At the mention of the name 'Arcas', though, the girl's eyes widened and she glanced around her to make sure that others were not listening. "You must not mention that name here. Dreaded 'Arcas' is the enemy of this Kingdom, the sworn foe of our Founders," there was an urgency to her voice, concern. She did not want him to draw further attention to himself, not considering he had already received a formal warning from the Vigilia Argenti. "Is he in the Imperium? Gel'Grandal? Or is he coming here and that is why you are here?" the Vastiana's head tilted, trying to make sense of all of this. Was something going to happen here? That was worrisome indeed; though she had faith in the Golden Guard and the Sentinels. But a foreign Prince was now Arcas reborn? That was wholly unexpected.

She was certainly learning a great deal from the foreigner, and what she was taking in were details she had never, ever expected to come across in all of her life.

☬ 23rd of Ash, Year 122, A.o.S ☬
Company: Hilana | Thoughts: She is quite the curious one | Mood: Amused, Intrigued

He tilted his head to the side, remembering the day he was first turned, and realized the time had passed faster than he had thought. To think a year had already passed since then, was.....a fleeting feeling. At her mentioning the strain it would put on the body from feeding, he simply shrugged it away. "The human that accompanies me normally sleeps for quite some time after offering his blood to me. I can safely say however that I can survive at least a week or two before having to feed again."

His words trailed into her next question. "For at least a year, and from what I was told, I had a failed form of it all my life, which caused my eyes to bleed whenever I was in the presence of magic." he noted, continuing to watch her gears turn over the many possibilities of what he had been telling her about his venture into the rift. Her reaction however intrigued him. That sweet look of fear and concern washed over her feminine features as she warned against speaking that name.

"Color me surprised. I never thought he had enemies like that. Who could really hate a demigod of justice? How curious." he mused, his fangs peeking from beneath his smirk. Her second inquiry caused him to shrug, as he couldnt in good conscious to Arcas....no Talon, divulged that much to her. For now, he would simply keep her in the dark. "Whether he is here or not I am not certain. After leaving the rift, I found myself aboard the airship that had been heading to the imperium. I found myself here from a directive given to me by an agent of the king of the gods." he lied. A simple lie, but one he wasnt remissed to tell.

Looking up to the corridor that led to the rooftop area he saw Dimitri, his scent hitting his nose far before the young male appeared. Nodding to the human he stood, reaching into his breast pocket and retrieving more than enough to cover their meal and then some. Coming to where Hilana sat he knelt down and took her hand in his own, before placing a gentle kiss upon it. "I will leave you with this on the off chance we meet again someday. For the year I have been a vitalisi, I have held a vehement hatred for humanity. For the vile things humans are capable of when they are unable to understand or control something or someone. You however, have given me hope, however small that may be, that not all of......." he paused for a moment, his glowing crimson orbs drinking her in one last time. "....you humans are beyond salvation. Until we meet again my dear."

Smiling he rose to his feet and proceeded towards his human. "Who was that sir?" Dimitri asked, keeping pace with Dreyfus as the two exited the building. "A friend." he answered, a smile on his face as he looked back to where the restaurant and the rooftop was.

Hilana could smell an omission when she heard one, and considering how forthcoming he had been before, the warning she had given him was apparently something that had been taken to heart. Or, at least, she considered it to go that way. When Dreyfus took his leave of the Vastiana, she smiled at him and wished him a pleasant evening, and that perhaps they would run into each other again around the Holy City. She watched him leave with another Peregrini, and wondered about him. She was about to get up when a familiar figure sat down in Dreyfus’ place. Ah, the Sentinels were back. No point in getting excited, as she sought to calm her nerves. She very much preferred to keep herself out of trouble with the authorities, especially here. The family name wasn't going to get her anywhere in the Capital.

She remained where she was, quiet and smoothing her skirts on her lap. Hilana had tried to remain still, because fidgeting was usually a guilty sign, and she didn’t think she had anything to be guilty over. She wasn't sure what this was about, but after a few moments, the Sentinel stood up. "Have a good evening, Miss Chenzira. You may continue on your way." The Vigil nodded to her, and went back the way that they had come. Hilana wasn't sure what had just happened, but for all she could guess... she had been checked over, and summarily released as she had no other information that they wanted about her most recent encounter with a very strange Peregrinus.

Hilana went the opposite direction of Dreyfus, her colourful skirts swishing in the evening breeze as long legs carried her off, and her far-less-colourful serpentine companion wound his way around her shoulders. Tiaz was lazy, and despite the events of the day, he was ready to go home. They had work to do in the morning, and studying to do now. But in any event, knowing better than to look over her shoulder, she headed off into the crowds to make her way home.

***

Dreyfus and Dimitri would not get far from the restaurant, as a pair of black-clad, hooded and veiled figures appeared to be waiting for them once they exited the little taberna they had left Hilana in. "Dreyfus Monteliyet and Dimitri... you will come with us," the Sentinel's presence brooked little for objection, as a wave of mesmered calm blanketed and soothed any concerns and worries that might have sparked in the two of them. From his dinner, the Vampyre could surely tell that these strangers were some sort of agents, royal or otherwise, but they were definitely authorities from Hilana's careful reaction to their appearance. While he may have left enough for the damages and the meal, what exactly they wanted was another matter entirely.

A portal opened before them, and both of them would feel the impulse to walk through. Each of them was accompanied by a Sentinel, and the portal would close behind them, leaving the cooling evening of the Luxium behind them.

Notes: This was a very interesting thread - Hilana certainly learned a lot! The interrogator became the interrogated, in more ways than one. Solunarium can be a dangerous land, for citizens and strangers alike.
