Glade, 124th Year of the Age of Steel

Another year has passed and, with it, a period of unease. The unnatural darkness was kept at bay behind the ward net that protects the realm from intrusion and attack. Shadow creatures slavered at the gates, but were rebuffed. The Court of Princes kept the lights on—quite literally—by attuning that web of sorcery and stringing the cities, villages, and even remote sites with deftly crafted wardstones of illumite and lunicite. The powers that be kept the citizenry abreast of the situation, and while definitive answers remain elusive, the travel advisory beyond the safety of Sol'Valen's borders has been lessened in severity.

The elves survive, but not only that—they continue to thrive!

People in Silfanore and, indeed, throughout the principalities, wonder whether the walkabout of Prince Rhydian Val'Kor, commonly known as the Knightshade, presages a new royal marriage. The children of the Prince of Tronóridan and his Val'Melua princess have grown, their marriage reached its end. Many gossip about which royal house he will bind himself to for a season of marriage and fatherhood.

But the king's favorite isn't the only one traveling once more. Others bearing royal seals were loosed from Sol'Valen like arrows out into the world. What they sought was anyone's guess.

Sol'Valen Seasonal Event Calendar

[Quest] A fully moderated thread that will be directed and overseen by Hekatos. A starter will be provided. Once the allotted amount of players have posted to the thread, it will be closed. If players would like to make their interest known, please send a PM to Hekatos here on the forums (not Discord).

[Prompt] A written prompt will be provided for interested participants. Any and all who desire to participate in this event, please inform Hekatos. A starter for the thread will be provided. A prompt is different from a moderated thread in that the premise of the scenario is provided, players are left to determine the outcome of their own volition. However, a moderator can step in to offer a creative nudge where appropriate.

[Open Prompt] Players are welcome to begin the event themselves.

1–8 Glade 124: The urban Oreia

Three months after the rural Oreia, the denizens of the Silfanore celebrate the return of spring. Before the festival begin, a statue representing the Dragon God Zerdos is placed on the road to the city, offered a sacrifice, and escorted back to the temple, thereby bringing His memory into the city for the revels. On the first day, there is a procession with various offerings leading into a night-long feast and celebration. The next few days are set aside for contests of athleticism, luck, and the arts. [PROMPT]

46 Glade 124: The Vrauronia

A procession of girls carrying boughs come to the shrine of Nerix. A she-goat is sacrificed to the Dragon God, along with other offerings. Another procession consists of people carrying round "mooncakes" containing lit candles arranged in a circle. Nobody quite remembers for certain how the trappings of this festival began, but theories about the symbology of these things abound. Girls in bear drag. Delicious cakes. An excuse to take the spring air and celebrate. It is the elven way of things. [PROMPT]

90–92 Glade 124: The Cleansing of the Temples

The days of this festival are among the apophrades, that is, impure days on which temples are closed and business is not done. During the festival the temple of Keela is surrounded by a rope to preclude all communication with it. Her statue is stripped of its garments and ornaments so that they might be ritually cleaned, and carried in a procession to the washing place. There, by the shore, dried figs and early fruits are offered to Her. After washing, the statue is taken by torchlit procession back to the temple and clothed with a new, clean robe and adorned with jewelry. Most other temples now follow suit, closing themselves for ritual cleansing. [PROMPT]

Further city- and kingdom-wide events may be requested by players interested in PC-driven plots. Please contact Hekatos if interested in pursuing such a plot!

All of this first season's calendar events are prompts, the better for Hekatos to give the locale and its culture a proper introduction. Hekatos will also be working with anyone who wishes to make a PC for Silfanore, and will offer fully moderated introduction threads to help integrate PCs. Don't worry. Next season will have more than just festivals, but it seemed like a good way to say hello.
