Hello!
I am submitting a Hytori racial bloodline for Filaurel, as part of his backstory. As you will see below, it is meant to be a purely negative thing for the purpose of facilitating the character concept. Please let me know if I can clarify anything.
•───────── ~ ────────•
Race: Hytori
Background:
Len'Alen's curse is a rare genetic condition; even among the Len'Alen family, it appears only once every few generations. Family lore holds that it is the result of a curse upon the bloodline, the punishment for some misdeed in the days of the Boundless Empire. If so, even the long memories of the Hytori have forgotten exactly what the crime was, and the strength of the curse has diluted along with the original bloodline, to the point that it has nearly vanished.
Sadly, the curse is not wholly extinct. Each child of the line has a small chance to begin developing symptoms once they've reached their majority- and although the incidence of the curse has faded, its effects have not. The bloodline's effects rapidly paralyze the afflicted, and although they can be temporarily overcome, nothing seems to stall the curse indefinitely.
Description:
The curse presents itself over the course of several days or weeks, slowly paralyzing the afflicted. The effect is spiritual, and does not interfere with the victim's nerves or organs in any direct way. Indeed, it is possible for sufferers to temporarily combat the paralysis through therapeutic exercise, regaining limited control of limbs or body parts. However, after the initial rapid onset, the curse will continue to progress at a slow pace, making such efforts less and less effective.
Although the curse's direct symptoms may be bypassed by the aid of magic, it is said to eventually begin to afflict a user's control over their own Cardinal Runes. The Len'Alen family's quiet lore states that 'All cures are fleeting.' If anyone has found a method of ultimately defeating the curse, it is not known in the modern day.
Ability:
The most unusual aspect of the curse, and what distinguishes it from ordinary diseases and disfunctions causing paralysis, is that it seems to be able to adapt to attempts to mitigate it and slowly evolve to defeat them. Len'Alen's Curse is neither an actual curse nor a disease, and is not directly treatable via any known rune magic.
