Don't Get Twisted! [Solo]

In which Hilana learns about ropemaking.

The Luxium represents the upper half and primary seat of the Solunarian Capital and one of the dual-cities that comprises Solunarium Proper. Situated between the foot of the volcanic Mount Sorokyn and the wide River Vasta, this above-ground metropolis boasts five thriving districts beneath the shadow of the glorious Palatium Furiarum (The Blazing Palace) from which the Solar Court rules in splendour. This bustling metropolis is by far the most populous region in the realm and, along with its shadowy sister-city the Umbrium, houses upwards of eighty percent of the Solunarian population at any given time. During the reign of a Solar Court, every major government agency in the kingdom is headquartered in the Luxium, with the notable exception of The Silver Sentinels, the covert intelligence agency run by the House of Phaedryn-Sol’Aværys.

There were a few immutable truths when it came to surviving in he wilderness, and that was that there were five primary tools that one needed to manage out there. Those five tools were combustion tools, cutting tools, cover elements, containers, and cordage. If you had all of them, you had the best chances, but one needed at least a couple of them and the ability and wherewithal to craft the others, one's odds of survival were not good. All of which could be reproduced with wild materials if you had a good idea about where to look, but they were the hardest and the most time-consuming to do so. If you had the appropriate Runes, many of those could be crafted with just Elementalism magic without needing any particular attunements: combustion could be made with fire, cutting with air, cover with earth, containers with earth or fire, making either stone, crystal, or glass, but cordage...

While Hilana always made sure to have rope on her when she left the city, and kept extra lengths in her rucksack and Hayima'el's saddle bags, it was one of those tools that was incredibly difficult to make. While she could perhaps manage something once she attuned to the element of Wood, that one she did not yet have. And since she didn't have it and it was likely going to be some time before she could attune to it, the Vastiana felt it was likely a good idea to practice with hemp and test her skill with it.

To that end, she was visiting a ropemaker's. They had plenty of hemp growing, and the plant was harvested. From there, she could learn the particulars about how to make the rope. While there were other fibres that grew wild in Atraxia, particularly sisal, which could come from agave, hemp was a good one to start with. The basics were the same, but once she got into the habit of making it, she could try transferring those skills if she needed to.
