Lectiones Provectae [Talon]

In which Hilana hosts some foreign friends for a meal and a spirited discussion on magic.

The Luxium represents the upper half and primary seat of the Solunarian Capital and one of the dual-cities that comprises Solunarium Proper. Situated between the foot of the volcanic Mount Sorokyn and the wide River Vasta, this above-ground metropolis boasts five thriving districts beneath the shadow of the glorious Palatium Furiarum (The Blazing Palace) from which the Solar Court rules in splendour. This bustling metropolis is by far the most populous region in the realm and, along with its shadowy sister-city the Umbrium, houses upwards of eighty percent of the Solunarian population at any given time. During the reign of a Solar Court, every major government agency in the kingdom is headquartered in the Luxium, with the notable exception of The Silver Sentinels, the covert intelligence agency run by the House of Phaedryn-Sol’Aværys.

The three cats were all too happy to enjoy relaxing on Aoren and taking whatever treats they could get from him. As big as the dragon-Avialae was... there was a gentleness to him that never failed to surprise her, and she knew that that gentleness was something that made him and Talon such a complementary couple. They could both provide it to the other when it was needed, and they both watered each other so that they could grow together. That, Hilana knew, was the sort of relationship she aspired to have one day. Not necessarily something arranged by her father for his business purposes, though thankfully she had gotten out of that thanks to Raithen's interest in her...

As the silver-haired Prince answered her question, Hilana's note-taking continued at a rapid pace as the young woman nodded along thoughtfully. Domina Clelia had told her that transmuting living things was a theory to discuss at a much later date - one had to walk before they could run, and she was toddling at best. But Talon had no such qualms with explaining, and this was all good information to have. He made a lot of points that were important to consider with such a particular subject, and none of them were superficial. She made a few extra notes to keep in mind and come back to when the opportunity presented itself after the day's lesson on Semblance - because she didn't want to get too far off of that subject, either.

She watched his demonstration, all the while with the gold flecks of dust reflected in her enormous brown eyes. She was glad that she had gotten the theory behind the Echo right, at least. The amount of information one could get just from being in a place and observing, especially if there were no wards against it, made for some food for thought. It brought a whole level of respect to those that used it to piece together people and places the way the Sentinels did. An astute observer could draw intelligent conclusions from those clues provided. Where there was smoke, there was fire, and long after that smoke had cleared... one could find the flames again if they only knew how to look. And that could surely include the body, if one focused enough. "So in observing a person's aura, you could observe the echo and find out when a bone broke, for example, and how it was treated previously?"

She could understand what he was saying about using it to read the environment around them, and she found his use of the word 'footnote' to be interesting. Her head tilted slightly. "When you said footnotes left by a person, place, or thing... I understand that it is possible with Semblance to not only observe your own aura and make it seem different to another practitioner... so that one can make themselves seem less interesting and unimportant, for example, if they wanted to be left alone..." Khyan had explained that to her once long ago, and she hadn't forgotten it. "But is a Sembler capable of making a change the aura of something or someone else? To leave a deliberate note there for someone to come back to at a later time? Or a change in how another Sembler might perceive something of the aura had something changed?" That might relate back to their earlier discussion on Alchemy and aether as a library, but the girl was indeed curious.
