A Quiet Life
Ash 5th, 124th Year, A.o.S.
For whatever reason Tailen felt himself barely able to move, after having realized he had fallen into a slumber at the base of a tree. Having sat down near the trunk after a morning of timber gathering for firewood, the young lad did not expect to have grown sleepy from the calming atmosphere that swept through the hills around his hometown. So when he realized that he felt immobilized, a near panic sank in just enough to prompt him, and the boy finally rose from where he lay with his eyes opening to reveal the bright sunlight valley of the northern lands within Karnor.
His heart pulsed rapidly in the confines of his chest for a moment, before he had realized whatever he'd experienced was finally gone. A dream. A fleeting moment spent within the Land of Nod no less. That dream... It felt so bizarre. Yet thinking about it as he had lain his head back down, Tailen felt the prickling tickles of the grassland tease the back of his scalp and neck. I can't even remember what it was about anymore. He realized with a thoughtful glance to his hand, the part of his body in question raised above him as he could only speculate further.
"There you are!" The young lad didn't have time to notice the rustle of grass from the footsteps that approached, as the mere sudden sound of the voice alarmed Tailen into a startled jolt!
"Whoa!!" Tailen exclaimed as he twisted his shoulders to look at the approach, the visage of his older sister in her common dress bearing down upon him with hands at her hips. The lady looked to him with raised eyebrows before she broke into laughter, clearly amused by the fact she'd caught Tailen entirely by surprise. "Cut me a bit of slack, Millie!"
"But Tailen, you've been out here for over two hours now! Priscilla was wondering when you'd come home." His older sister remarked with a hand covering her lips, if only to stifle the laughter before she tucked loose strands of her dark hair behind her right ear. Tailen didn't expect to have been out for as long as he had been, given usual trips for firewood were done just a bit over an hour after his departure. The boy looked to the rucksack that he used to collect the fallen sticks he'd found earlier that day, unaware of himself as he still felt a bit dazed from the forgotten dream he'd experienced. "Are you okay? You look like you've been crying."
"Huh?" He looked at her dumbfounded by the statement before he elevated his left hand to a cheek, yet again surprised with a startling revelation about himself. Tailen felt the wetness of cooled tears on the cheek he'd checked, quick to bring the cuff of his sleeve to dry it off as he focused on Camilla once more. "Oh, I'm okay! It was just a bad dream... I think?"
"You think, huh?" Camilla checked as she approached his side, gripping the skirt of her dress so she could tuck it to one side as she knelt down. His older sister checked him then, determined to see what she could with her eyes. Tailen recognized the glimmer of Semblance within them anytime she would use them, and after a moment of observation, the shifting hues of her irides returned to their normal verdant green. "Would you like to talk about it?"
"I sincerely appreciate it but it's pointless..." He admitted apologetically which earned a look of doubt from her. "I can't remember it anymore." A sound reason that she reluctantly bought as truth, since Tailen was usually quite honest about himself. The older sister's serious expression softened into another warm smile, before she ruffled her fingers through his messy hair and rose to a stand.
"Very well, let's go ahead and return home then. Byron'll probably be back from his hunt soon." Of course, Camilla wasn't being upfront about the fact Priscilla likely wanted to play with Tailen again, which was natural, since he promised to do so once he got back from foraging for the day. Once the older sibling reached her hand out to him, the young lad smiled softly to her, and accepted the support of her pull to rise on his own feet in turn.
"Thank you." He reciprocated with a gentle nod of his head, receiving an affectionate nod of approval in return. The boy then rustled the loose grass off his tunic first, and then reached with a steady hand to pick up the loaded sack of wood before slipping an arm through the strap.
"Ready?" After getting another nod for confirmation from Tailen, the older sister guided him along with a gentle hand rested on his shoulder blade. "Come then, Ilakai should be quite happy with the wood you've collected." Tailen sure hoped that was the case, he always did feel like more was better when it came to these foraging quests of his. The pair of siblings moseyed on down the hillside away from the tree though, back toward the beaten path that would wind down into the hill and toward the river next to the village.
Toward the small little hamlet of Hanz Villa.
