Night of Fate
Ash 75th, 124th Year, A.o.S.

They ran like never before. They ran until the air in their lungs ached from the chill in the air, they ran until their legs felt wobbly like jelly and sore from the thigh on downward. They ran because they were desperate, because what they saw from the distance would only haunt them in the days to come. Both Byron and Tailen ran straight back across the beaten path they had already treaded, despairingly keeping their eyes locked on the plumes of thick smoke trailing overhead from their village.

Hanz Villa was burning somewhere, a situation that likely demanded their immediate return. If a fire had broken out somewhere in the village it wouldn't take long to spread, and if anyone were already hurt or in danger... By the Gods Tailen would feel beside himself because of it. Thus they hurried as fast as they could, covering meter after meter before they had to pace themselves further. An eventual slow to stall their progress but maintain a steady jog became necessary, for the amount of air rushing through his lungs made them feel on fire to Tailen.

But, again, he was just as desperate as his brother Byron was to reach the village. They had already cleared over half of their traveled mileage of the departure they'd made into the wilderness, but with the village still in sight and nightfall bound to set soon, it was imperative that they returned before anybody else back home might've been hurt. Naturally, Tailen's thoughts were on his sisters Camilla and Priscilla, but he also feared what might've become of the other village kids, or perhaps their parents if they were the ones caught in the blaze.

All this bode ill tidings for Hanz Villa, another setback for a quiet little hamlet after such hardship; and just when things had finally started to improve over the past few months as well. But of course...

Nothing would prepare the brothers for what they would face upon returning back home tonight.
