It had felt so surreal that it almost wasn't believable, that every moment spent with his eyes closed, the haunting scenes of the nightmare he'd survive would come back. Over and over Tailen would see the walking carcasses and smell the burnt flesh of his neighbors, the devastating sight of his home as buildings burned to the ground and... and...
A lump in his throat made him choke as he laid there motionless, his uninjured arm brought up to cover his eyes as they began to just weep themselves. Emotional turmoil roiled deep inside him as he struggled to comprehend the extent of everything, as he desperately sought to find answers where there simply none within reach.
All he could do while he lay in this tent with his saviors watching over him was hope, hope that after everything that had happened, he wouldn't be so alone as he'd been earlier on this terrible, terrible night. Byron had to be out there somewhere, looking for him or for a trail at least. The youngest brother did not want to think himself alone, orphaned with no family left after the events of tonight. He just wanted them to come back, to come and find him waiting out here in the wilderness...
