Valentine

Date: 8th of Frost, 220, early morning

Been just a week and a day now, just roughly, since Hershey first step foot in the cobbled streets of this wood and stone city, and already he was missing the southern winds of home. Hershey was no stranger to cold, of course. Bitter winds blow in harsh no matter where you're standing in Beewood. He's had his mornings where his shoes were frozen to the porch till daybreak, and the man ain't no stranger to frostbite.

Being said, however, the only thing Hershey could think about as he started wrapping up his tent, is how one of the first things he had gotten on learning when he began travelling around this great big country, was just how eager most folks were to share how cold they've gotten back home, wherever that home may be.

Hershey's fingers shook slightly under the cold, making the tent just a bit more difficult to collapse, but that was no real issue that perseverance couldn't solve.

"Odd little phenomenon," he whispered to himself.

Snow went up to my ankles! Snow went up to my knees! Snow covered my front door!

What an odd practice, and always one left unobserved. Almost like a little contest over who's been coldest. Never a competition over comfort, always over trouble, and who's had the most of it. It's hard to even call it a competition, really. Folks just seem to like talking about it. Almost as if every word uttered is meant to impress the folks around you.

Hershey tutted to himself, pulling his posture up straight and landing his hands on his hips.

"Well ain't that just the way." He said, looking over his tidy, cleaned up, backpack-sized accommodations and turning around to the street. He stood behind his roadside stand, which had been planted firmly in the ground there since he arrived in town. He took his time strolling around the streets, of course, always nice to smell the daisies, but never while he was -

"Open for business." He said with a contented sigh, resting his soles up on the desk of his stand and leaning back in his stool. He felt lucky, now, that snow was not tickling his nose at the moment. He tilted his head back and smiled at his horse.

"Ain't that a reprieve, Jedidiah? Just a wonderful morning, yes sir."

Jedidiah was not the most astute conversationalist, nor even was he always cognizant of the social formality known as eye contact. Though, for equine standards, Hershey was certain that Jedidiah was more than polite.

He leaned back into place from atop his stool and smiled up and into the nicer air. The sky was overcast and the air was crisp, but every so often the clouds would be just a bit weaker and Valentine would feel the sun's relieving presence on his thankful skin.

A good day already.

Talon sighed heavily as he stared down at the schematics in front of him. He had been up since the early hours of the morning, first tending to matters of the estate so that he could get a head start, then doing a few morning exercises and finally here at the shop. He had found himself restless and he knew the reason why. He had been struck by an idea that he did not quite know how to express. So, for the past two hours he had been sitting in front of his sketchbook drawing and writing notes that he inevitably crossed out repeatedly. He ran a hand through his hair for what must have been the dozenth time.

You are going to go bald if you keep doing that.” The amused voice of his companion was suddenly at his ear. Talon felt hands reach up to take hold of his own before he was gently pulled away from his workstation. He turned on his stool so that he could face his bondmate. Aoren cupped his face and rubbed his thumbs beneath Talon’s eyes. The young Novalys let out a heavy breath as his companion rest their foreheads together.

You are restless, Shinsei.” Talon simply nodded. That was true. He had been spending more time working and trying to keep his family in order more so lately than ever before. He could not explain why he felt such an urgency but it was perhaps linked to the fact that there were so many large scale events planned for the season.

You are right. My mind is racing. I am fixated on a problem that continues to escape me.” He sat up straight and rolled his shoulders. Slowly he expanded and stretched his wings, working some of that restless energy out of his system simply by moving. He was about to turn back to his sketchbook when his companion reached over and closed it. Talon arched an eyebrow as he was tugged from the stool. He did not resist but as they neared the doorway to the Skyforge, he chuckled. “Aoren, I have work to do.

You have been working since before dawn. You need a break. When was the last time you ate something?” He was about to open his mouth to object when his stomach growled hungrily. Talon frowned as his body betrayed him which elicited a chuckle from his companion. “See?

Alright, alright.” He shook his head and joined his bondmate in a more easy stride as the two of them exited the shop. Talon nodded to both the head guard and his clerk as he stepped out. They would see to matters while he was away. Stepping out into the crisp morning air, Talon squinted a bit after having been in the lower lighting of his workshop for so long. He blinked and adjusted quickly before the two of them made their way down the street of the Plaza of Jeweled Arches. The morning was beginning to get busy as people went about their daily activities. He noticed that Aoren did not let go of his hand while they walked and Talon found he did not want to let go of it either. The touch was helping to ground his frayed nerves and restless anxiety. They turned down the street and continued for some ways toward the Cloudhaven District but he had a feeling that his companion did not intend to lead them home. It was as they were approaching the gates that something drew his eye. It was a simple stall with a horse nearby and a human man propped up at the stall. It was, to put it plainly, an odd sight to see so close to the Cloudhaven District. Talon glanced at the sign on the stall and arched an eyebrow. He had to admit that his curiosity was piqued. When he slowed his walk, prompting a tug on his companion’s hand, Aoren looked back at him then followed his gaze.

The raven winged Avialae sighed.

Alright. But after this, dumplings.” Talon smiled. He brought the back of his bondmate’s hand up to kiss it lightly which made his partner blink in surprise. “Uh…

Talon laughed and tugged the man toward the stall. He approached the human, his grey eyes alight with good humor as he stepped up to the stall.

Good morning, Sir. May I trouble you with a question?

V a l e n t i n e

Ohoho! What a fantastic surprise! A two-fer!

Hershey looked up from under his brow at the two men before him, who seemed... Awfully touchy. Obviously some sort of involved with each other.

The phrase 'lovebirds' popped into Hershey's head, but he dashed it away for its cliched and intrusive manner. It was then Hershey noticed he had unconsciously glanced over the duo's wings. Two sets of 'em. Ooh! Avilae! Ain't seen many of em walkin'! Certainly not here! Of course, it wasn't Hershey's first rodeo with them folk who fly all high on fancy or nothin'. They're notuncommon, per se, but it's nifty when you catch one around! It's like finding someone who can wiggle their ears.

Though, Hershey noticed since arriving in Kalzasi, he ain't seen many Avialae around these parts. He knew were there, stridin' around streets and... Flappin' around above, but Hershey sat himself plain flat where the most common folk would need the most assistance here in town. How wonderfully interesting to see some faces 'round here of the winged variety!

"A question?" Hershey inquired, a grin playing across his chin as he leaned into the two strangers from the other side of his stand, as if he was wink-wink nudge-nudging them, or reminding them of some inside joke, as if they were long-time pals, buddies, comrades even. "Why, sir, Valentine's Solutions can handle so much more than a question!"

Hershey sprang up. He wasn't no fool, of course. He knew that the Avialae were the money in this town. Of course, that didn't affect his impression of the two before him in the slightest, but it gave him a good reason to perhaps perform a little bit. Flash some of that rustic hospitality Mama Mary Valentine imposed upon him. After all, a boy's gotta eat, don't he?

He strode to the side of his stand and leaned against it. "Valentine's Solutions is a bona-fide, legitimate business in the lucrative field of resolutions! To what, you may ask?" Hershey gave out a big old belly laugh, and slapped a knee. "Why, all sorts of things! Let me tell you," He stood out apart from his sign, speaking with his hands now. "Valentine's Solutions can hunt, hide, help, hurt, re-shelve, re-shingle, shake loose, lift, literate, can, jar, pickle, cook, clean, design, draw, and solve anything you've got!"

Hershey took a second to smile, and let his eyes dance between the two folks in front of him. Gotta' give them room to breathe, yknow?

"But, of course, sir," Hershey said, grinning ear to ear, pleased with himself more than anything, "you may ask as many questions as you like."

He stuck out his hand, ready to shake. "Hershey Valentine of Valentine's Solutions at your service!"

His accent was not one that Talon was familiar with. However the introduction that the man offered certainly floated on the performative side. For a moment, Talon thought that he had stumbled onto a carnival stall and was about to be swindled out of some of his coin. Not that he minded. He had money to spare and if it meant someone did not go hungry then he had no issue parting with it. Still, he stirred his aether into motion and peered just past the thin veil that hung around every person. As the man’s aura came into view, Talon was struck with the common things one saw at first glance. There was excitement, most likely at the prospect of new business, there was a touch of curiosity and Talon could just make out the dash of sincerity that spun around the man’s words. His grey eyes remained focused on the man as he spoke at length all of the services that he was able to provide.

When his presentation was done and the man offered his hand, Talon took it giving it a firm shake.

Talon.” Releasing the man’s hand, his companion reached over and shook the offered hand as well.

Aoren. You are from Sangen, aren’t you?” Talon threaded a note of curiosity across their bond to which he received only the equivalent of a mental hug. “I went there once. Made a few fond memories.

Talon made a mental note to ask his bondmate about the experience later. For the moment, turned his attention to Hershey Valentine. He was average in terms of human stature, which meant that Talon towered over him. He made a point to fold in his wings so as to make his presence more friendly and open to pleasant conversation. While that did not seem to be lacking for this particular gentleman, it was always best to put one’s best foot forward when making business deals.

You say that you can design things? I happen to be in need of a designer.” Beside him, his companion suppressed a groan which only made Talon smile. “I am looking to create a device, so if you have familiarity with engineering that would be even better.”

Talon folded his arms over his chest and cocked his head to the side. There was little in front of him that gave him any inkling as to what sort of extent the services this man provided would be. But, it seemed that Vicis had seen fit to put the the man in his path. So why not take the chance?

It is a shield, made of multiple plates that can collapse upon each other and be strapped to a fighter’s forearm.” Talon quirked a brow. “Does that sound like something you can accomplish?

Oh, snap! The library is open and you're about to get read!

The bondmates are adorable.

Talon may be towering, but this post was cut short.

Experience: +8 xp, but nothing magical (even though you used Semblance so you can use it on Semblance if you wish).

Lore:
Business: A strong personal charisma can entice customers
Business: Making pointed proposals based on potential
Linguistics: Recognizing a Sangen Federation accent
Linguistics: Sangen pronunciation of Common words
Semblance: Hershey Valentine's aura

Injuries: n/a

Loot: n/a

Note: I couldn't be bothered to count how many Semblance lores you have, but I gave you one that you earned by the power vested in me by... you. If Valentine returns, they can tag me for their lores and XP, as well.

The library is now closed.
