Frost 82nd, 120th Year, AoS

He ran. His feet carried him further down the slopey underbrush of the forested hillside, his leather boots stomping hard on the ground as he reached the bottom of the fold. Where he was headed? A decimated ruin? No. This wasn't the same as before. This was a smoking village as the flames still burned brightly, having left no real sign or trace of anything or anyone in its wake. But why? Why did this place look completely immolated by a natural disaster, and what became of the people who used to live here before?

Rickter's eyes widened in pure awe at the scene before him, his very heart-wrenching in pain as he looked to a building in particular. A clan based home, the torched remains of the framework suggested as much, but the charred bones of this old home meant something to him. It had to. For he started to weep suddenly, as though everything had been taken from him in an instant. Rickter dropped onto his knees then, overcome with a familiar sense of grief, the kind accompanied by nightmares and abominations. Yet, in his sinking into this despair, another voice echoed from a far off distance.

His eyes did not lift as he still looked to the broken shambles of his home, still perplexed as deep within him he felt as though he were truly weeping. "other!" The distant calls from another just now began to reach his ears, as the sight of a younger boy with darkened hair came to kneel beside him. "Brother!" Rickter's focus realigned with the boy, realizing that this was his younger sibling when he did. "We have to leave! Before they find us!" The boy looked to be just on the verge of manhood, his light blue eyes somberly gazing into Rickter's as he pleaded to the wolf. "Please, brother! We have to go!" He started to tear up as well, the devastation in his tone palpable now, leading Rickter to regain his other senses and think.

"They're after us..." The ones who did this... who burned everything down. Looking over his shoulders he sought past the flames, gazing toward the shadows as dread washed over him like a sickness. "My brother needs me." The wolf brought a hand up to the shoulder of his sibling, nodding softly before he rose onto his feet. "Let's go." The brother nodded in earnest, taking Rickter by the forearm with a tug, before charging off in a direction for the wolf to follow. He didn't hesitate. All that mattered in that particular moment was the safety of his brother. Dashing back down the street Rickter had barreled down earlier, chanting could be heard within the air as he ran. It was getting louder and louder... until the sound of thunder came barreling through the sky, and the very heavens themselves began to descend upon the place.

A Dread Mist?

"Run, Alistor!" The younger sibling called out as he glimpsed the above past his shoulder, Rickter putting everything he had into clearing out as the burning town became engulfed within the storm. Aetheric clouds began to condensate around him as he kept going, threatening to swallow him in their midst even with all his speed. "Ru-"

The mist closed around him. Leading Rickter to jump out of his skin as the last remnants of his nightmare lingered, a fading echo of a cry in anguish as though he might've been consumed. It was gone now though. Not the actual storm lingering outside of Kalzasi's outskirts... but the one he clearly dreamt up as he breathed heavily within his bed. Moonlight shone through the cranks of the planks nailed over his window, indicating that he'd slept only somewhat through the night, with a light sheen of sweat coating his head and shoulders in where he lay.

He'd awoken breathing heavily from his nightmare, only glimpsing the soft lines of moonlight earlier. Yet he smelled her coming from the other room, her feet lightly stepped across the floor as she came to him. "Couldn't sleep?" Telion checked as she drew closer to the bed, the wolf turning a bit just to look at her silhouette. Though now his eyes could see her a bit better, as she'd brought a hand up to brush her messy hair behind her ear.

"How'd you guess?" The wolf gently remarked with a vacant expression.

"You know that thing dogs do when they're sleeping sometimes?" The wolf blankly stared at her for a moment, a little despondent to what she was implying of him. "You know... they start breathing heavily and fidget sometimes?"

"...I don't fidget..." He murmured into his pillow as he still looked up to her from aside, leading the bard to gently giggle before craning to sit on the bed next to him. "What are you doing up so late?"

"I wasn't sleeping well either, saw Hannah get up to leave." She expressed quietly with a look toward the doorway, her hands brought up to her arms as she folded her blanket over them. "Then I heard you a short while later." As her gaze returned to him Rickter stared at her in return, a sense of longing developing in his heart now that he had. Why? Any other time he would've smiled, she always made him smile, and yet ever since that close fight with the abomination... Something changed in everyone that night. It changed them all. How Rickter felt about his closest friends... how special he became to them... Things had changed so dramatically that he didn't know how to process it, and with the lingering Dread Mist outside the city he couldn't help but feel a part of that too.

"Ricky can I..." Telion got quiet then, hesitation in her tone as he raised his eyebrows at her. "Can I stay in here with you? Tonight?"

"Stay?" She looked down to him as he repeated the question curiously, the drowsiness still evident in his tone as he seemed to find it then. The will to smile, just out of the blue as usual. "...sure." He agreed as he lifted up his cover, using his other arm to scoot a couple nudges to one side. Telion eased down to rest next to him, being mindful enough to leave a small space between them when she'd lain. The wolf brought his own cover over her's, easing a little closer to her so that she was in close range for a cuddle. Telion might've been taken aback by it initially, though she quickly relaxed into him right afterward. Now wrapped in his arms she felt safer there, her own breaths deepened as she eased into him a bit further.

"Hey Rickter..." The wolf softly groaned to answer the bard. "Do you still have dreams? About that night?" The wolf's half closed eyes opened fully once more, the smell of Telion's hair fresh in his air as he inhaled softly through the nose.

"Sometimes. Sometimes... I have other dreams."

"...Me too." Telion confided as they both just laid there together, the bard's hands intertwined with the wolf's as they remained that way for a bit longer. For whatever reason he... He wanted to kiss her. Right on the shoulder. And when he did Telion didn't budge, leading him to believe she'd froze as a reaction. Instead, she squirmed a couple of times, turning over to face him as they looked into one another closely. Did she want him to do it? Was she comfortable with him? Already his mind started to race, which felt a bit unusual now that he'd started to focus on her. She was so close to him already, so why did he feel the need to leap, or better yet the intent to hesitate and question everything? "Ricky?"

He thought to open up and say something but nothing came out, not even a sound as he felt his heart ready to drop at a notice. Instead, to keep from losing his mind to a panic, he did the one thing that just felt right to do for him. For them. Holding Telion just wasn't enough for him anymore, not when he couldn't bear the thought of losing her... like he almost lost Talon and Aoren both. All three of them could've died that night. It was when he pressed his lips into her's, that the world grew still, and the wolf pulled her further into him. Both held gasps and quiet draws of breaths that were shared, before he pulled the bard even closer into him, their lips dancing to a song of courtship as they embraced one another through the night...

When morning came and they both stirred, one after the other, Telion smiled to greet him a kiss on the cheek. "You sure know how to keep a girl waiting."
