Personality

Korvaelis isn't the first person you notice in the room; he is quiet and often keeps to himself daily. There is the rare occasion that he'll speak, but that's only in places that he is expected to appear. Otherwise, he is like a mouse, scurrying his way through people or places until he is in a place he finds most comfortable. He is all about comfort and tranquility sometimes. It wasn't exactly what he wanted at a time until he became more self-aware and felt less important that he found the quiet to be exactly what he needed in life. Not like his life is too exciting or anything, the quiet just feels much more welcoming than any other that he's come across. The druskai can be a little awkward at times too, especially when coming across strangers or unknown feelings. He wasn't used to being loved or given any attention, so he most often stiffens up whenever those moments come around.

He is a goodhearted man, that much can be promised. A pleaser too if you make him feel guilty enough, which doesn't take much if we're being honest. Korvaelis can be described as nonconfrontational so doing what someone says is his way of avoiding unwanted conflict.

Appearance

Although he is a pretty man, it's very hard to get over the way he looks. He has normal green eyes, pupils and all, and even normal teeth compared to his counterparts. Korvaelis' entire face appears to be normal to other humans, the only difference being how smooth it is as well as the scales throughout his entire body, but mostly scarring his face along his cheeks and forehead. These scales seem to be luminescent, emitting a subtle range of colors that often change against his almost turquoise-colored skin. His ears are unique, slightly resembling pectoral fins yet those ears hide behind a thick curly brown hair. Korvaelis is tall and lean with a muscular build with webbed hands and feet.

History

The shadows cast by the flames flickered against the beautiful young druskai’s skin as she tirelessly stared out her window. Leaning out the window, Oceana watched as her servants and brothers succumbed to slaughter at the hands of men almost as large as themselves. She didn’t know what sound was worse; the sound of swords ripping into men’s flesh or the constant wailing of her nurse as she feared for her life in the background as they scrambled to grab her things. Every time the woman grabbed a piece of clothing or jewelry, they would stop and look at Oceana, baffled by her blank expression as well as the guts she possessed to watch her family die one by one. The nurse tried to pull her away, but the young girl only pushed back each time she tried.

“I do not need to be spared. If this is my destiny, I must foresee what might happen to me.” Oceana would tell the nurse each time she tried. It wasn’t until the young girl’s mother pulled her away from the window that she did not protest. She was spun around and slapped after uttering those words again, a dark blue color mimicking what would be the imprint of the hand on a human’s pink flesh.

“You speak like that again and I will cut your tongue out, young lady!” Oceana's mother, Koralle, scolded her daughter, squeezing her shoulder blades to control her anger. The mistress was not only upset at the situation but her daughter’s willingness to give up so easily.”If I can’t save my husband and sons, I will save my daughter from treachery. Your words do nothing more than echo my failure as a mother and I will not allow it.”

Oceana just blankly stared at her mother, blinking a few times as the only sign of her consciousness. The girl would not have the chance to answer her mother anyway, there was banging at their front door and it could be heard throughout the entire estate. Osheanna was dragged out of her room by her mother and nurse, both pausing in the hallway as they heard the front door of the housebreak. “Follow me downstairs and wait for me to signal you to escape, I’ll distract them.” Koralle pulled something out the pocket of her dress, a dagger, and moved with swiftness. In no time, they could see a battle; the outcome of their support for Jacien. Koralle would soon disappear in the fight, but her voice ringing through the air gave Oceana and her nurse the courage to run.

And never come back.

A name inspired by his grandmother, Korvaelis was born a few miles outside of Zaichaer to his mother, Oceana. His mother was married at some point, but that man wasn’t his father and long gone. As to who his father was, no one would know the truth. His mother would refuse to tell a soul and often cite that it was “out of respect” for her deceased husband who passed shortly before Korvaelis’ birth. Korvaelis is the youngest of four and immediately, he was despised by his two eldest siblings who found his birth to be an insult to their dead father. Korvaelis seemed to be what tore his once happy family apart--shortly after learning how to walk and talk, his older brother and sister would run away from home and never come back out of spite. This would upset his mother, who already had a guilty conscience, leaving him in the care of an older woman who referred to herself as the family’s nurse.

This family’s nurse would often occupy his time, keeping him out of sight of his mother who spent every day blaming herself for her husband’s death and her children’s unhappiness. Korvaelis couldn’t say he got to know his mother except on her “good days”. These days usually consisted of his mother going through a slew of emotions, a few hours of happiness that Korvaelis took advantage of. These moments often gave him an idea of what a normal life would be like as a normal child yet (being a curious one) he would use the time he got to speak to his mother to ask her questions about himself or even his family. Korvaelis had always been a curious child, often getting in trouble in the streets as he followed the other children to do troublesome activities.

It was never his mother or the nurse that scolded him for this, but his only remaining brother. Korvaelis looked up to his brother, whose reaction to him was much like his mother’s own. Korvaelis was sometimes acknowledged by his brother and other times, he was ignored. There was some affection, which he cherished. Other times, there was just a solemn nod or a pat on the head. Korvaelis found himself alone most of the day, entertaining himself with the help of a few house pets his family collected. The family nurse focused more on his mother as he grew older.

Eventually, Korvaelis’ mother would soon pass away. The cause of death was unknown, but it was expected considering her mental state. When she passed away, Korvaelis was thirteen. Somehow, despite the lack of work his mother took on, the family sustained itself when she was around. After she was gone, someone else had to make ends meet. That’s when his brother decided to leave the house to go to school and find a job. This left Korvaelis by himself with the lack of company from his mother’s nurse, who only spoke to him when she felt the need to correct him on something. His brother sent letters from time to time; it was never enough though. Korvaelis had a hard time making friends as time went on, the absence of his family causing him to become less social. In the past he was a wild child, but as he grew more aware of his situation, he did not feel worthy of friends.

On his sixteenth birthday, he stopped receiving letters from his brother for a while. Korvaelis was worried for some time until his brother returned to the city, a different man than before. His brother was much more sophisticated and to his surprise, a supporting member of the high court of Kalzasi. There was a difference in the way his brother behaved, he was much more political and interested in Korvaelis’ affairs. During his time in Zaichaer, Korvaelis’ brother showed a lot more interest than he did before in him. Then a question arose:

Would you like to come to Kalzasi with me? And Korvaelis, wanting nothing more than to be at his brother’s side, would accept the invitation.

So his brother would take him to Kalzasi and help him settle. At first, everything seemed okay, Korvaelis was treated with respect and given all the love he had ever wanted to receive from his brother. Eventually, this would all come with a price; the price of his freedom. Perhaps he had never seen this side of his brother. Or maybe this is the kind of person he had been all along. Whatever the case may be, Korvaelis was pressured by his brother to marry into one of the great houses. After expressing his sexuality and blossoming into a handsome young man, Korvaelis was forced to help his brother’s political career by winning the heart of an Avialae of noble status. The man he would have to win over had already been sought out. The son of the Daizoku of House Dahshida was found to be a prominent match, Korvaelis would have to win his heart. Creating scenes between the two that would always appear to be a 'coincidence', Korvaelis would soon marry the son without anyone expecting a thing. This is partial to Korvaelis taking some sort of liking to the noble, however, the young man could not say he ever really loved him. The Dahshida noble taught Korvaelis everything that he knew, which involved the care of IceWing Eagles as well as breeding other animals as a hobby.

The marriage would not last long. Korvaelis' new husband suffered a terrible accident shortly after their marriage. Even then he could never utter “I love you” to the one man that cared about him most. Nonetheless, the son of house Dahshida loved Korvaelis enough to leave him in charge of his only son from a previous marriage and the business he planned to pass down to his children.
