Pahoran was sitting eating breakfast when one of the knights who ran the training walked up to him. Pah looked with a raised an eyebrow and paused in his eating when the Hakumo stopped at his table. He looked at the Avialae youth and nodded his head. “Pahoran.” He said more then asked. The blond young man nodded his head. “Good. It has been decided that you have shown enough promise and as you have specifically asked for more specialized training to included you in some advanced courses we are running.”

Pah stood up and saluted the man and said. “I would honored sir.” The other man nodded his head and then gave the time an location before stepping away. Pah sat down and smiling finished his food. He was glade to see his persistence had paid off.

It was later that afternoon when he arrived at his first lesson. The same Hakumo was standing in the room his face expressionless as Pahoran walked in. He was early and the first one there. He walked in and saluted the officer then stood by one of the walls as he waited for others to join them. While he waited Pahoran’s ice blue eyes took in the content of the room. The blue in his eyes seemed to gleam as he took in the weapons sitting on the table. They were the weapons he had seen used by other guards carry. There we’re two kinds. The first was shorter while the other was longer. Next to each was a pile items that the young man guess was the ammunition.

Pahoran then watched as three other’s were brought in. Pahoran could see that they had actually obtained the full rank of a sky guards and not recruits like he was. Pahoran mee the eyes of all three and nodded at each. The first two were humans and nodded at him, though there was a question on their faces. The last was a fellow Avialae. He took in all of Pahoran his eyes resting on the young man’s white eagle wings. Pahoran took the same moment to study the other man, and feeling as if stone was dropping in his gut. The expression on the other’s face wasn’t promising friendship. The man was average height for an Avialae which still put him shorted the Pah and the men of his family. Pah hadn’t realized how tall he was as his family was all within similar heights. Pah thought that the other Avialae’s blue hawk wings were rather handsome.

The other man came up then and almost got in Pahoran’s face. “I think you have wondered into the wrong room. Recruit.” He said with a sneer. “They are teaching how to hold a sword down the hall.” He said and looked at the other two to get a supportive laughter. Pahoran wasn’t every really sure if they would have or wouldn’t because the Hakumo cleared his throat rather loudly.

“Recruit Pahoran actually came to us not only able to hold a sword, but equally capable of ramming it into anything that annoyed him.” Came the reply. Pah kind of had wished the office had let the matter stand. The dawnmartyr knight had been through worse hell then this guy could dish out, though know this boy would become Pah’s enemy.

“I am sorry sir. I was just surprised to find a recruit in a training course for actual guards.” The other said.

“Yokota, recruits are Sky Guards, and this training is open to anyone who wants to learn how to handle guns.” The instructor said. “Now Its time to start so to your station now.” Came the sharp command. Once the blue winged Yokota was on the other side of the room at the last station the Hakumo continued. “Alright. We are here to learn how to use guns.” He said and then motioned to the tools on the table. “The smaller one is a Pistol and the longer on is the Rifle.”

Pah looked at the two and then back up at his instructor. “The pistol is meant for closer range combat, while the rifle is meant for longer range combat. For mounted combat either is useful in the correct situation. The rifle is good for taking out those farther opponents. The pistol is better for someone close but not with in melee reach.” Pahoran continued to listen as they were told more about the pros and cons of each weapon. After a while he moved on to other information.

“As with any weapon it is important understand how it is assembled.” He told them to approach the pistol first and pick it up, carefully. “Remember this isn’t some javelin or spear, rather simple and with no moving parts. This thing has moving parts and if you don’t treat it carefully it won’t keep you alive.” Pahoran raised and eyebrow at that last statement and the Hakumo nodded his head at the group of them. “These things can do a great deal of damage, but if they are handled wrong they will stick and until you fix it all you basically have is a rather pathetic club. If you listen to me well here we might just keep that from happening to often.”

Pahoran raised a had and Hakumo nodded at him. “So what your saying is even if we do treat it with respect it could still freeze on us.”

“Yes it, can so assume it will and act as such and when it doesn’t you have succeeded, and as you treat it well the chances will be much less.” He looked at all of them and then said. “The number one way to keep that from happening is to know the structure of the gun, and more importantly how to clean them correct, and assemble them in the proper order.”

Pah and the others were told to sit, and then were provided the necessary instructions on how to check to make sure the weapon wasn’t loaded, and then how to unload it if necessary. Then came the fun part. Pah actually found himself smiling as he took the weapon carefully apparent and studied each of the pieces. At one point he looked up and saw the other Avialae was still struggling taking it apart and shot him a withering look. The young man shighed and went back to enjoying his own lesson regardless of what crap the other might decided to dish out afterwards.

The process took a while, and Pah had to take it half apart at one point, but he and one of the other guards were done at about the same time. The Hakumo came over and inspected Pahoran’s work and then nodded his head and headed over the other guard.

The Hakumo eyed the other two and gave some help. Then he said, “Once I am satisfied with that we can go to the range and practice shooting. Be warned both of them have a significant kick back.”

Pah very intently studied his own weapon feeling Yokota glair on him. The young Avialae hoped that once this lesson was done he would be able to escape from that gaze and hopefully from the blue wings boy. Pah was sure the other was older then him but Pah suspected that Yokota lacked confidences and so blustered a lot.

Soon everyone had passed their instructors scrutiny and they all made their way towards the range. They were to practice with both weapons and Pahoran was rather excited. He had seen some of the more crack units practice with the guns which is what had prompted him to learn. They came to the range and were directed to to their specific stations.

Pah took one of the cartages and loaded it as he had been instructed. Pah then raised the pistoling his hands actually using both hands while others used one. “Fire” came the call and Pahoran pulled back on the trigger. He had been warned about the kick back but no warning prepared him for the actual forces.

Pah’s aim was completely thrown off by the kick back. He rubbed his hand and then loaded the pistol again. This time he was prepared for kick back and so his aim was much better. Pah’s aim wasn’t great but each time he got more control over the weapon.

“Good work for your first time.” His instructor said. “Your taking you time which will help as you work more. Now try the rifle.”

Pah respectfully set the pistol down and picked up the rifle. It took a little more effort to adjust it to the and get used to length. “If you think the pistol had a kick.”

Pah looked at his instructor and then turned to face the target and fired. The rifle. It slammed into his shoulder and Pah hissed in surprise at the impact. Oh yeah that stung. His instructor gave him some direction and he adjusted fired again. The impact was still there but it wasn’t as bad.

Pah continued until his rounds were gone. Enjoying learning how this new weapon worked he was smiling despite how bruised he felt. Once he was done he sat down and cleaned the guns as he had been instructed before handing them back over.
