The Coalway
The Coalway is the name of a long road within the Knob, that is divided into two distinct sections, South and North Coalway. South Coalway connects to the Grungeworks, and is largely a warehousing district. Most of the buildings in South Coalway are used to house coal, steel, and other products produced within the Grungeworks. There are several large clusters of low income housing there, all in the form of apartments. Being the closest housing to the Grungeworks, the area is often smoky and many outdoor surfaces get covered in a layer of coal dust. But the rent is cheap here. The poorest newcomers that move into the Knob tend to live in South Coalway.
As one heads north on Coalway, they find themselves heading uphill, to the top of the Cliffs. As one progresses along Coalway, they find it transitions into lower middle class housing, then middle class businesses. This middle class area is North Coalway, and it is largely supporting businesses and infrastructure for all of the residents within the Knob. Most of the best shops, producers, and shops are within North Coalway.
Coalway eventually gives way to the Bulge.
Like the rest of the Knob, Coalway, both North and South are largely populated by nonhumans. There doesn't appear to be a large abundance of any one particular race within Coalway. But every time there's a large influx of immigrants, they typically move into South Coalway, allowing those residents there before them to move somewhere else within the Knob. Much of the architecture within the Coalway follows the typical Zaichaerian style.
