xxxThe soft purrs of Pumpkin filled the brief silences between the two. It was odd, being around a cat who wasn’t trying to attack anything that moved. So with a hesitant motion the girl shifted her weight, swiveled, and laid herself down the length of the ledge with her head resting near Minos thigh. It wasn't all that wide, but still had enough space for her to rest her petite from against comfortable. She tucked both hands under her head and stared up at the man as he spoke with blue eyes that now matched the darkness blue of the night sky. He had such odd features- feminine eyes, sharp jawline, and skin she guessed would be as soft as the cat's fur. He was exotic looking, even if he was human. Her hair spilled over the ledge like water, and she pursed her lips in thought to his question.

”I did. Though, no need to worry. I got a job on my first day, and everyone here is so nice!” She said, her head tilted back at him and eyes reflecting the moonlight at him. ”Like you, I’ve met so many kind people. I couldn’t imagine this city being dangerous. Aside from the cats trying to steal my food.” Fawn giggled and looked back towards the sky as clouds began to roll in.

But something caught her eye. She flicked her gaze back in his direction to see the brief glint of his teeth, sharp as razors, positioned around a strangely curling tongue. For a moment she just stared at him, wondering if perhaps the angle and poor lighting had misled her to see something that wasn’t there. The girl squinted just as he closed his mouth and teeth became hidden once more. She pouted, but went back to watching the clouds crawl their way across the span of the stars as he spoke.

His response only drew a smirk from her lips, and a soft laugh as she turned her head back to look at Mino knowingly. ”Assets huh?” She hadn’t met many in the city so far, but there had been a few travelers through her own town on their way to the next big city. And it became a game for her and her friends, figure out the guests' profession. If you guessed right, you didn’t have to sweep the temple's stairs for the next month. But many of those travelers, as they’d found, simply said they were in ‘the market’ or ‘trading of assets’, or ‘personal relations’. All confusing terms really, and so she knew when someone didn’t want to let up.

In the distance, sounds of vendors still exclaiming about food to sell rang throughout the streets. Drunken groups shouted, placing bets and challenging their friends to which tavern they’d be visiting next. And not too far away the sound of a lute being strummed playfully and countless people cheering, likely dancing too, reached the redhead.

Fawn shifted her weight to the side, leaning her ear slightly closer to the direction of the jubilance, and then let a playful smirk pull at the corner of her lips. ”Fine, don’t tell me what you do. BUT- In exchange for me not prodding into your career, how about you show me around the best parts of the city?”

The snort he loud was anything but gracious. Him - kind? It come off as that, he supposed. But this was not kindness. This was curiosity. The old saying went that it killed the cat, but satisfaction brought it back. So far, he would say that it had been true for this interaction. Fawn was interesting in the way a mouse was interesting to a hungry cat. He merely hadn't decided if she'd lost that edge of interesting to eat her yet. Figuratively, of course. He shuddered at the thought of one of his...siblings finding her with that analogy in mind.

"Assets." He echoed the word with a nod of his head. "There's a lot of nonsense words they like to throw around, but it's mostly number work I do. Keep track of them and all." He tapped his temple, shrugged. Probably more than he ought to divulge, but he still hadn't actually explained anything. It was harder to get that he might be a thief for a noble family that had kidnapped him at a young age. Along with hundreds of others. He blinked, ears twitching once more. He turned his head to the mouth of the alley, watched a couple stroll past as they remarked on the look of the night. It would seem Fawn wasn't the only one concerned with the stars.

"Best parts of the city?" Well. The best parts for him weren't generally accessibly by a human. No, that required a frame the other didn't possess. Namely, that of a feline. Though, he could probably think of one or two places that were bipedal-creature friendly. "The best parts...." His eyes narrowed and his ears twitched again. He sat, still as a statue for a moment before he was moving again. "All the best places I know aren't exactly for someone like yourself." She didn't have the stench that people on the seedy side of town had. He might prefer that she remain that way.

He watched as Pumpkin adjusted herself, stretched closer to Fawn to sniff at her face for a moment before plopping back down with a mewl. "Pumpkin might be able to show you all the best food stalls in the city, though."

xxxFawn pouted at him, lifting herself from the ledge and leaning on one arm while she gave him a mocking glare. "And what's so different about me, exactly?" She asked, shifting her weight to both hips and glancing down at the ground below. Thankfully all the cats had long gone and she had become rather excited after hearing the music in the distance. Were city performers different? Their music already sounded unique, faster and more intricate than her small towns folksongs, and the musician in her couldn't wait to see the excitement with her own eyes.

She placed both hands at her side and then launched herself off the ledge with little hesitation, landing nearly perfectly save for a tiny wobble on the slightly uneven ground below. As she straightened herself out, the girl grinned widely and turned to face Mino with a challenge resting in her eyes.
"As much as I love the idea of a cat showing me where to eat, I'm already full." Sarcasm laced her voice as she began to pat the dust and debris off her dress. "And, I can't rightly ask questions to her. Plus there's some music from the other block I wanna check out- if you can keep up with me I'll allow you to tag along.~" Many would have considered it flirting, but for Fawn it was merely playful. Really, she hoped he would follow. He was an interesting sort and there was something odd about him. His ears, which kept twitching oddly, and the strangely shaped teeth she thought she'd seen flash twice now. Whatever this man was, whoever he was, she wanted to get to know him better.

"So what do you say, join me? Or does Pumpkin need more nap time?" She asked with a smirk, placing both hands in pockets on either side of her cloak. Her hands had begun to feel the chill of the air, though she hadn't quite noticed until just now, and hoped that whatever fun was being had where the music came from that it would aid in warming her slowly chilling body. Not that she should stay out much later anyways, the next day was planned to be a long one if she timed everything right. But for now all she wanted to do was explore, warm up, and spend time with a new friend.

She wanted to know what was different about her? For one, she was human. Or, he assumed she was. She didn't smell like a Rathari and she didn't have the ears of the Hytori. She certainly didn't have the signs of the Fae'ethalan. That, and she reeked of innocence. Just the question alone was innocent. His lips pursed as he pet Pumpkin, fingers raking through her fur.

The sounds of the city in full swing were welcome. They were soothing at best, and while he wouldn't mind walking through them once more - there was something else. Something that he had very little control of. He pushed his glasses up onto his forehead, bangs pushed back from his face. He blinked down at her, brow raised as he swung his leg over.

In the back of his mind, sweet as honey, was her voice. "You've got work to do, kitten." A full body shudder hit him. He scooped up Pumpkin before pushing off, landing on the balls of his feet in a crouch. He set the cat down before standing upright and stretching. The friendly demeanor he'd worn before no longer served him, and thus it was discarded.

Down on the same level footing, he noted he had a few inches on Fawn. Enough that he could lean forward slightly, grin in place but much less amicable. "I would join you, but. Assets to see to." A shrug, as if it was entirely out of his control. It certainly was. Like the tug of an invisible leash, he found himself wandering toward the mouth of the alley. Gaze sweeping over the crowd that milled by, he wondered for a moment if the Lady Blue wasn't hidden somewhere in there. He wouldn't be surprised if at least one of her color-coordinated assistants were present.

It would make the work a lot easier, go by faster if they were. He turned on his heels to look back at Fawn, hands sliding into his pockets. "It was a pleasure getting to know you, Your Majesty Brisbane of the Alley." One more bow, just as mocking as the first, but deeper. "Are you in need of an escort home?" His ears twitched once, twice, thrice; still no signal, but he could feel it coming.

"Don't be late."

xxxAs he jumped down to meet her, eyes meeting him and suddenly very aware of the strange glint in his eyes, she raised her brows and took a brief step back. Not out of fear but more from surprise. It wasn’t normal, or expected, for someone's face to be so close to hers. In fact it had brought a slight flush to her cheeks as she watched him scan the crowd of passersby.

xxxShe had truly been hoping to spend more time with him but it seemed that city folk were working even into the night. A strange habit, but one she realized that she too would be making for herself soon. She sighed, turning her pout into a smile and shrugged.

xxx“Oh well.” She said, giving him her own mocking bow in return, and giggled “And you as well, Lord Crazy Cat Man.” Her smile curved into a smirk and she winked at him playfully as she pulled her hair back and smoothed out the last of the knots.

xxx“Nah, I should be able to find my way fine. We’re not too far from-” It was then she realized. She had absolutely no idea where she was. Wherever the cats had led her had been far from any section of the city she’d been in so far, and she only hoped it was close by.
“Well- yeah I’ll figure it out!” Why not, she thought to herself. After all he had his own errands to attend to and she wasn’t about to get in the way of his job. She smiled at him, turning to walk away, but then turned around with a startle to her face. “Hey! I just realized! You’re sort of cat-like yourself.” The girl grinned, sniffling in the cold air as it pinkened her freckled nose.

xxx“But don’t worry, I like you. So we can hang out again some time~” And with blue eyes glimmering in the lights of the streets, the wild-haired girl skipped off, headed towards the commotion of music she’d heard earlier. Whatever direction her home was in she’d figure out later but for now- music!

The signal itself was almost hard to miss — almost. But Mino was the type of person that made it near impossible. That, and he'd been trained well enough to never miss it. Imperceptible to those with lesser hearing capabilities at this distance. His smile faltered for just a second as he caught sight of Berry in the crowd. Her usual blue attire made her stand out in the dull tones, even if the color itself weren't far off in darkness. She tipped her head forward, gaze steady on him.

Pulling himself from his stupor, he turned back to Fawn at her soft exclamation with widened eyes. Sort of cat-like? An understatement. He blinked, big and owlish, before his eyes were forced shut with the force of his grin. "An astute observation." He turned on his heel, waving as he stepped into the crowd.

"She looked fun." Berry was at his side at once, the two of them moving with the flow of the crowd. He let his glasses drop back into place on his nose. She lifted the great flopping hat in her hands to her head, looped her arm through his.

"I had time to waste." It wasn't much of an admission, but Berry's eye on him was enough to know that she discerned something from his words.

Rather than remark on it, though, she sighed. "Yes, well. Now, you have work to do. As always." Her tone was sullen, and she looked every bit like the girl of sixteen that she was. "You remember what Mother told you, right?"

If she noticed the way he tensed, she said nothing. He offered his usual smile in lieu of an answer, pat her hand on his arm as they walked.
