Caza watched as Bianca straightened out the blankets, then sat upon them. She heard the words, no one lived in this room. She saw how Bianca looked her over, and she mimicked it, doing the same in return. At the question presented to her, the girl shook her head, "First Mama no give shoe when no cold."
The following question was a bit more difficult. In all the traveling from her home, to that other city, to here, Caza had last her way. She wasn't exactly sure in which direction home was. She didn't like not knowing that. It made her scared, and being scared made her angry. Both emotions were plain upon the girl's face, giving her quite the unpleasant grimace as tears filled her angry little eyes. "I from house in big trees. No from here. I no can go home." She was clenching and unclenching her fists, gritting her teeth, shifting her weight back and forth on each foot.
In a bare whisper she nodded, "Yes. I safe." There was, after all, no danger here in this room. The window was open and Caza was confident she could flee out of it in time if it became dangerous. The girl walked over toward Bianca, a few tears streaming down her face as she stood in front of the woman. As Bianca pulled her legs up on the bed, much like Caza's birth mother would, Caza did as she had always done with mama. She got up on the bed, sitting next to Bianca, and leaning in against her. She took one of Bianca's hands and wrapped it up in both of hers, and leaned her head against Bianca's arm.
"First Mama die four seasons away. We live in big wood. Happy. Teach me hunt and spear and hide and no die." She sniffled a bit, wiping her nose on her arm, "I lonely for four seasons. I no die. Big Mama find me. We go big smelly ugly city. Fly on big no wing bird. We live in sex house. I sleep in closet now."
