♅ 66th Ash, Year 121, A.O.S ♅
Company: Richard and Stefan| Thoughts: Richard: My son is a mess| Mood: Richard: Irritated

Richard took a moment to process everything that went on as he sat down in his study; he took the drink from Stefan nodding a thank you as he listened intently. He sighed "I know this might be too much to ask but, I need your help..." Richard immediately sipped his drink as he sat down, beckoning Stefan to a seat as he looked deeply into his eyes.

"I believe your the only person who can help my son now, I tried everything from when he was but... He needs a friend" He took a sip off his drink once more as he sighed. It was obvious he was stressed, the way his shoulders shook as he took a deep breath, made him wonder was he pulling a facade when he was attempting to stay calm. Eventually, he calmed himself and spoke"Every day, I have to live with the fact, knowing that one day Tobias might do something stupid and I won't be able to defend him, not for much longer. I already tried my hardest; I know I need to do something about it before..." He paused.

He could feel himself pour out in tears again, but he resisted; he tried to hold back as if he was pretending to be strong, but how much more could a father take? "I don't feel like my son has told me everything though, he struggles to open up sometimes... What if the coven did something to him that was unforgivable." He sighed, closing his eyes once more "Will you help Tobias? You two, your so much alike that I think he could learn alot from you, Stefan..." He said with a smile.

It was true, Tobias did grow up poor, only to be enriched by Richard; Stefan had the same upbringing, except they were different. Tobias had always been given a choice, but had always made the wrong ones. He was a young fool, not knowing the world as much as he did today. Atleast one thing, Tobias knew he fucked up the first time. He was never going to make the same mistakes as he did again; this was the last straw. The line that would finally be drawn by the other man as he opened his mouth again "Although, I did encourage Tobias last time and... I'm in a bit of a predicament. I'm under watch of the state at the moment, we both got carried away with our use of magic, although I encouraged it, I thought communication by mesmer wouldn't hurt.". He said with a sigh as he shook his head "Although, my stupidity proved risky and almost got us both killed, now Tobias is the one who bares the burden. If he doesnt prove his loyalty to the Reconciliation, I will be executed..." A tear flowed down his cheek as he looked up at Stefan "I need someone to help me, I think you're that person, Stefan. A good heart, good mind and a dignified sense of character within you." He said with a smile.

"This is not Tobias' fault, it's simply mine, I should've been a better example as a father."

The maid, Henrietta came down stairs as he looked over at Richard "Master Tobias is awake, it seems he may be having night terrors yet again." He asked. Richard froze for a moment; the night terrors. He wondered how regular they came by, they happened at irregular intervals. One moment, Tobias was fine the next moment his mental health would fly off the hill. This had greatly affected Richard's mental health as he's still picking up the bits and pieces from his traumatic experience "Oh no, will this end..."

Stefan frowned and tried to settle, tried to think. The idea that he, lacking any magical knowledge that wasn't academic, was the only person who could help the Reconciliator and his son seemed highly unlikely. But, perhaps the issues were deeper than he realized and it wasn't so much that he was the only person who could help, and more that he might be the only person left who would help.

The question in his mind was, would he?

"Richard," He started, leaning forward a little, " I think you overestimate my position in the city. My father certainly has the ears and wallets of the wealthy and powerful, but I am not a political savant by any means. Melchior is not likely to stretch his resources for someone simply because they are a friend of mine. I will do my best to counsel and aid your son but I know next to nothing about the spheres you both move in.

I wouldn't know a magical malady if it was standing right in front of me. I could take him to see a doctor from the Order but, surely, you have more connections there than I do." Though Stefan had become friendly with a healer from the Order during the Expedition, he wasn't about to go pulling favors from her any time soon. The comparison of Stefan and Tobias was, in Stefan's opinion, another point in a long line of evidence that Richard was under far too much strain and was beginning to crack.

"I will do my best to befriend Tobias, but, to be frank, he doesn't seem at all inclined towards me." It had felt like attempted rivalry, at best, resentment even, the time Stefan had tried to instruct the younger man. He'd been able to draw him into the lesson and get him started in the art, but it hadn't been the beginnings of what Stefan would consider a friendship. It had felt like both of them were enduring something unpleasant as a favor to Richard.

Stefan stiffened slowly as the revelation of Richard's investigation poured out, until he was sitting up fully. The investigation into the Zorrathy family was bad enough, the reason, getting 'carried away' with their magic...

Listening made the hair on the back of Stefan's neck stand on end. What was he getting himself into?

"I have no experience with the law, none with magic, none with the Order. I am an engineer, Richard, a scientist. I can't manufacture you a way through these troubles." Although he knew that calm was needed at that moment, and was trying to project that feeling, he was realizing, suddenly, how much danger he might actually be in. Not only from the legal ramifications of what he was being told, but also from what might turn out to be two dangerous, possibly rouge members of the Order.

When the maid reappeared Stefan stood, setting his drink aside.

"It seems your son is still in need of you, for the moment I believe I should leave you and consider these problems you are going through. I will write to you, or come to see you soon. Thank you for the drink, old friend."

Reaching out he shook Richard's hand firmly. Whatever might be happening, whatever the strain of the situations was leading Richard to do, Stefan knew he had once been a great man, might be one again.

Turning to the maid he said,

"Please have my carriage brought around." Before heading out to the entrance hall to collect his hat and coat.
