Anton had barely spoke after Carina had entered the room, and that did not change now. It was not that he didn't want to speak, but more out of the fear that if he did he would make an utter fool of himself. To avoid that, he was choosing his words with absolute care, and by and large considered silence to be the best policy. It didn't seem like Carina needed him to speak to read him anyway.
Vanessa's joke at least gave him a lifeline, the man's face graced for a moment by a soft smile at her not so subtle joke at his expense. "I have tried to be dying less often, but someone seems to have taken that as a challenge," he shot back at his nominal bodyguard, who had by every metric put him in vastly more danger than if he had simply remained at home. But that, she would insist, was boring. Which was probably the excuse she was going to give when he asked her what she was thinking about introducing him to Carina.
He knew little of matters of the heart, but he knew enough to realize that Clove had him caught in a trap. The fact that she wasn't even trying - wasn't intending - to land him in such a state, that she had absolutely nothing she wished to gain from him, only made it more effective regardless of her wishes. By comparison, doing strange drugs in a mysterious lounge with a stranger vouched for only by a former pirate was practically a walk in the park.
Semblance allowed him to see the outline of Vanessa's motions when she made to try it, and at first he attempted to mimic her while following Clove's instructions. Carina seemed to have no desire to watch him fumble his way through the process, guiding him to successfully line up the rolled up banknote with the expertly crushed powder. He managed a muffled "thank you" to the mysterious woman before beginning to inhale, sweeping down the entire line.
Life flooded through him as it hit, a surge of euphoria coursing throughout his entire body. The auras of everything and everyone in the room suddenly took on far sharper focus, the sounds and sensations far more vibrant and real than he had ever experienced. Carina's was no different, her song infringing upon his mind even when he attempted to pay attention to something else, everything somehow leading back to her.
"Oh."

Carina didn't hesitate to help him find the coke, finally deciding that the man was blind. With the same impressive lack of personal space, she had pushed him until his head was over the table and then guided his head to it. Blind men could get fucked up, too. When he was upright, she gave him a pat on the shoulder.
"There's a good boy." Then, wasting no time, she plucked the bank note from his hand and sat herself next to Vanessa, unbuttoning the pirate's shirt one more time for good measure, though it still wasn't enough to be scandalous by any measure, even if anyone was actually paying attention to them. She really didn't have to be so extra, but for Anton's first introduction, she figured she should go all out. A free hand reached for the tin, and she tried her best to get a straight line. It wasn't perfect, but she also wasn't going to use a razorblade on someone, and she didn't have the convenient little vials that made it easier to do this sort of thing. Before Vanessa could fuck up her hard work, she blocked one nostril and snorted the line through the bank note on the other. Carina sat up straight and smiled as it kicked in.
She leaned past Vanessa, though she was more practically sprawled across her lap, to get a better look at Anton in the dim light. Her small hand again grabbed his face, though she was inspecting his eyes this time. Even unable to see, his pupils were dilated beyond belief. She didn't hold onto his face for nearly as long this time. "How ya feeling? You like it?"
Anton was an interesting character in that he seemed entirely afraid to make conversational risks, but was easily persuaded into taking physical risks. That was promising, though; he could eventually learn the art of being careless.

"Me, take something as a challenge? I'm hardly the type!" She replied with a grin towards Anton. "I keep him safe every day of his life, and this is how he treats me!" She told Carina, but could hardly be convincing while she suppressed a laugh. Yes, Anton would have been safer if he merely stayed inside, but he had not employed her so he could remain the cloistered boy he had been. She had a unique way of showing it, but this was her way of giving him the life he had been denied. Perhaps she might have done better to spread these experiences over more than a single season, but one did not waste time when making up for lost time.
She watched Anton take the drugs, but even that was not half as interesting as what Carina said next. Even Vanessa knew the power of those simple words. Poor boy never stood a chance.
Vanessa had never been very good at sitting still. She got restless incredibly easily, and it was not surprising to see it exacerbated after having done cocaine. But when Carina sat beside her and begun to prepare another line off of her chest? It was remarkably easy for Vanessa to sit still as a statue. She did spare another look towards Anton to make sure he was reacting well to what was certainly a potent high, but only did so without moving her head. She was not immune to Carina's wishes, and so she remained still even as every muscle burned with an intense need to move.
Her confidence surged now, the high in full effect. her alertness soared to match it was well, and she regarded Anton through this lens of hyperfocus. She watched the way his chest rose and fell, then took in the bewildered way he now viewed the world. This was enough to convince her, and she looked down to Carina, not even bothering to pretend to ask Anton himself at this point. No, he needed to be left alone with those four beautiful words so that they could truly steep.
"I think he has one more line in him, don't you?"

Despite wondering what she else she had realized about him to offer it, Anton did not begrudge Carina's help. His only real surprise was that it was her hand guiding his head and not Vanessa's, the lordling having expected his bodyguard to handle such work for him. But the mysterious woman seemed to enjoy taking an active role in things, and did not mind the fact that he required such aid. These were things he was used to, that he had become accustomed to, and that did not bother or disturb him.
The four little words, said as if they were nothing important, with the same casual disregard that she seemed to say everything, were a different matter altogether. Head still swimming with the rush of energy and focus as the drugs pounded through his system, he barely noticed her move next to Vanessa as he tried to process yet another new sensation. Gazing at her aura, he knew in an instant that he was thinking far more about that short statement than she ever had.
A part of him hoped that both the pirate and her fried would assume that the brighter blush upon his cheeks was due to the former's increasing undress, Vanessa's aura shifting with an enticing undertone as Carina went about her business. But he knew that neither would fall for that, that he was an open book at very least to Clove. Once again a voice roused him from his thoughts, her voice asking him an innocent question.
"I feel... warm. I think I like it," Anton eventually replied, and he was speaking of more than the cocaine. Looking at Vanessa had at least confirmed that he was not the only person to react to her like this, and not for the first time he wondered how the pirate had survived this long considering the company she kept. "Is this what it's like every time?" he asked, looking between the two of them with sightless eyes, heart pounding away in his chest.
He had started to understand what Carina had meant about the lounge not being the right place for stimulants, the entire place seeming far too slow. The torpid auras of the others fading away from a world that he was now far more attuned to than ever before, the soft couches, the gentle music. All of it was off, dull, drab compared to the chemically induced rush he was experiencing. But Vanessa, too, was right. Sitting where did, with who he was, none of that mattered.

.
The paranoia inherent to some of her favorite drugs did not play nice with her latent paranoia, and she was suddenly all-too-aware that she was playing games with someone who had access to more money than she could ever conceive of, let alone see. It was a dangerous game, and she didn't want to be the one responsible for making some rich man's son addicted to coke or opiates or whatever the fuck else. She may have been unable to function without a cocktail of a million and one substances, but she didn't want to overdo it for someone unused to this sort of thing. Even under a fake name with him she didn't want the trail to come back to her, and she especially did not want to jeopardize Nessa's job, though she seemed to be doing great at doing that herself.
"I wonder how much danger he would be in if you weren't here to protect him," Carina said, allowing her to take it any way she wanted. She sat herself out of Vanessa's lap before she got too comfortable, and inexplicably started tucking things away back into pockets. She stood up and ruffled Anton's hair.
"I think just the one is good enough for now. It'll wear off in about half an hour if you're lucky. Less if you're not." She stood up, then, and gave a wave and a wink in Vanessa's direction before she started to wander off. "You know where to find me if you need me."

"Oh he'd be fucked if I weren't here to try and keep his head from piercing the clouds." She looked to the lovestruck lad and then back to Carina. Vanessa may have counted Carina among one of her friends, but she had no illusions that Anton would have been utterly finessed had he attended this meeting alone. Though, of course, he would never have been here if not for Vanessa's insistence in the first place.
The bodyguard did not try to stop Carina as she collected her things, though she did pull herself more upright in her chair. The world swam, mundane lights and colors exploding into vibrancy. She could feel everything in extrordinary detail. She felt Carina's weight as it shifted from her lap, even down to the slightest swish of fabric across Vanessa's breeches. Just the smallest movements made her thoughts jam like a broken cog, but with a bit of focus she was able to recover. "You're leaving so soon?" Vanessa asked, though she knew better than to insist Carina stay, or insist Carina do anything for that matter. "Keep your head down then. It was good to see you."
But just before Carina could fully make her exit, a thought sprung fully formed into Vanessa's racing mind, and she called out to the mysterious woman "You putting on any shows soon?" She asked quickly, this time for herself. The brutish woman did have a few interests that could be interpreted as high class, and the performing arts were among them. To a woman that couldn't read, theatre was a rare chance to experience stories that weren't told by liars or drunks, usually.
"Thought it might be another thing I could drag my friend here to." She added after a moment, clearly an afterthought as she looked over again to Anton. "No one's ever gotten clipped in a theatre, so it should make an easy night's work for me."

Whatever hesitance he may have had upon walking into the drug den had evaporated by the time the cocaine had worked its way through his system, a combination of both the drug's influence as well as that of the irrepressible Carina and Vanessa. Instead of appearing disappointed or longing when the dancer made ready to leave, he simply did the same. Though not without a look of clear enjoyment at having his hair tousled. "Where to next then?" he asked the two women, before it finally became obvious that she intended to head off on whatever business one of Vanessa's friends had. Which was typically nothing legal to begin with.
"Or when, I suppose," he attempted to recover after the pair had continued talking, the details absorbed as no matter of consequence. Ordinarily he would have perhaps felt the need to defend himself in the face of Vanessa's frank assessment of where he would be without her, but at this moment he simply could not find it in himself to care, pharmaceutically induced confidence carrying him through whatever twinge of discomfort he might have felt at her words.
Anton's already wide eyes widened further at the mention of the theater, though this time in excitement. "You perform? I would love to attend your next show," he said, far more earnestly than he would have before snorting the drug. The fact that he had no idea what sort of performance she did didn't matter to him, though for once such a feeling wasn't because of his clear infatuation. His replacement sight ensured that the non-audible details of most any performance would be lost upon him, but it was replaced by an intricate mosaic of sensation that almost any sort of act drew his interest.
The fact that he wanted to see Carina perform was simply a bonus.
