Heavy impregnated silence held the pause of speech like a Warden throwing its prisoner in solitary. Baudric's shoulders felt the weight of the room bare down upon him. Yet he would maintain his firm gaze on Karam. Would not waver or show signs of backing down with his assertion of his innocence. He knew that fact meant little if he could be used to bring any comfort to the people of Kalzasi, blame could be placed on him regardless of fact.
Waiting for words that would condemn him, shaken when they did not. His eyes widened slightly; the mood, still heavy, shifted. Karam began divulging actual intel gathered in the time he was held in the cell. Explosive distractions, investigation findings, admission to city defense incompetencies.
"More refined for them but all still very much signatures of the Maloretsiev. They are certainly paid and had higher help."
Adding briefly as Karam talked about how they avoided detection. He glanced at the table. Listening to yet more suspicions that reflected his own mind. Never would he wish to believe it, but nor could he deny it. He needed to know for certain and there was only one way to find out. He had to return home. Now.
Baudric's collar sat comfortably around his neck. its sleek black obsidian surface disrupted by the magical runes on its surface. Lit up in striking blue tones as the aether permeated the surface to exact its purpose on Baudric. The presence of three cracked spots dulled the magic on a small number of them. The only reason Baudric even began to see reason in the way the Kalzasern citizen's related tales of the Synnekar and their service to the city. A direct opposition to the Kathar and the Imperium.
Baudric's heart sank in fear. The Bastion and Protector soul within him crying out it protest as Karam proposed the question. He went to bring his hand to his neck to think of Aoren being collared once again after knowing freedom. Or Talon, his power, his strength.. The things Baudric was made to do in the name of the Imperium and her Sovereign. The wonton destruction and terror that could be the twisted God-prince.
It was Kala who spoke the words he withheld. Returning his eye contact to him once more, Baudric's eyes offered to Karam, a part of a solution to Kala's question. He was angry. Furious. The leaders of his home would really choose power over other nations with no regards to the backlash it would have on the innocence of the Gelerian citizens?! or those of Zaichaer and Kalzasi.. the rest of the world?! True to his Orkhan blood Baudric's scales grew more pronounced and sharp. His tusks nearly doubled in length like Dragon fangs. The feathers on his wings ruffled while his knuckles clenched tight till they grew paler of his already pale skin. Conviction in his mind as his eyes held onto Karam's gaze. Willing the man to know his heart to save innocents. To right the wrongs.
To let Karam know, he was a proud son of the Imperium and he would do his duty to protect the people from any who would threaten them. Even, no Especially, from those who ruled them!
