Arrival Kismet
Baudric had been savoring each bite of his sandwich. Whatever sauce or basting that Ms. Anna had used on this meat during the cooking process was well within it's right to be praised and savored. Myles continued talking again, which he was giving him as best attention as he could. The sandwich really was such an amazing find. Once the beer arrived he had to set the food down in order too fill his tankard.
Without a pause he slammed back two thirds of his drink and refilled it again so he could speak.
"Mm. Thank you but this is really more than enough for me right now. I would not wish to impose on you. Plus I am limited on funds. I need to not only get supplies but I will also need to find a place to stay the night once we part ways. Now then, your questions. Nothing special on the journey. I am just able to return to the Imperium now. I recently recovered from injuries. Now I am just trying to get back to duty as soon as possible. I've already been M.I.A. long enough. As a proud son of the Imperium.. I just need to get home."
Taking another bite of his food, he held up a finger to let him know he was gonna continue.
"The only news of importance I carry back to the Imperium, is the turmoil that has taken Kalzasi. Assassination and abduction is being whispered among the people. Many fear war is brewing. Which is all the more reason I need to get back to the Imperium."
Finishing off his food officially now, he sits back to just enjoy his drink now. Tipping his jaw in appreciation to Myles for his hospitality.
"Mein Licht, vertreibe die Dunkelheit, befreie meine Seele. Fliegen Sie in der Luft des Zufalls."

Steeping his fingers Myles rested his elbows on the tables and leaned forward. “I think we could be useful to each other then, if I might be frank. Two mornings from now an airship is leaving for the empire, primarily its passengers are imperials that are afraid of war coming here. So its going to be primarily wealthy individuals who are imperials or the relatives of imperials.” Taking a long draft from his mug Myles chose his next words carefully. “I will be on this ship as it’s cargo has been deemed especially precious, the families aboard have a diplomatic importance to both of our nations so if we might, kill to birds with one stone so to speak, that would be fortuitous.” He knew he was taking a gamble, but if the man’s paperwork had checked out with both the defense corps and the reconciliators there was little room for suspicion left.
As his food arrived Myles Liberally slathered the bread rolls with the sweet smelling butter that had come with them. Taking the largest bite he could managed Myles chewed and hummed in appreciation for the delicious snack. Looking back to the man he listened as he confirmed what he already knew about the Kalzasi situation. It would be to arms soon. He hoped his away to the empire would be quick so that when war did break out he would be ready for it. Rubbing his temples he buttered another loaf before handing it to Baudric. “It would be good to travel with someone who knows about the empire, this will be my first time visiting, and though it will be brief. I’d like to learn as much as I can.” While he wasn’t giving away his true reasons for wanting to know, he did have an earnest desire to be as prepared as he could for his trip to the empire. The missive still folded in his pouch egged him towards a mission he deemed too important to delegate to anyone else. “If you will be staying in town, I can direct you to a relatively safe and cheap inn, one where prejudice will be the least of your concerns.” The inn known as Frankies tended to take good care of out of towners, particularly those of the rarer races. For better or worse the tavern had such a reputation, the place managed to keep to its own and had never been caught doing anything illicit, which was more than a lot of establishments on that end of town could say.

..
The idea of taking an airship back to the Imperium was very tempting. It would cut down time for him, more than significantly. It was the idea of it being filled with noble families of the Imperium. He thought there was just no way he would be able to just be another passenger on that ship. He might have been a part of the Sovereign's personal army and a member of a prestigious Chapter in the Inquisition. But he was still a lowly servant, collared into service and one of the lowest ranked in the Imperium.
No he needed to be on that ship. At the very least he could act as personal escort to Myles. They would accept that he was certain. Or perhaps no one will care too preoccupied with their own necks.
"Very well, Ser. I will accept your offers. Should anyone ask, however, I am not a travel companion. I am personal guard to you on official business to ensure your safe arrival to the Capitol. I won't expect you to fully understand the inner workings of the Imperium. But simply put, even as proud as I am to be in service to the Sovereign. Even if I choose this course in my life. I am a citizen without rights. The world views us as slaves and maybe so. But it matters little, the simple fact is there will be those who will not take kindly to me being a passenger but will accept me as a servant on a mission. That's you. Seeing you with me and given the explanation that I am your escort will prevent anyone from digging too deep. Agreeable?"
Not wanting to be rude he accepted the roll with a delighted grin. He was still hungry and did not wish to impose on the man, but he would not refuse the gesture of kindness. He amused over the fact that Myles was inherently a likable person. His manners and way of speech did pin him as possibly nobility but that did not stop him from relating to those of lower station. And maybe he was using Baudric, but that is not something he would need to do with the Orkhan to use him. He could simply have ordered him as nobility of an allied nation to his own. To the Imperium. Baudric would have served in that manner. Yet Myles who gave candy to kids. Paid the working classes fair dues instead of turning to higher ends of culinary artistry like nobles are wont to do.
Myles was a man of the people. His heart was in the right place and that was clear.

Blinking as the man spoke Myles failed to fully contain his confusion at the culture he was still much uninformed on. It wasn’t as if the man’s terms weren’t agreeable, but they were confusing to say the least. Society usually loved its soldiers unless the regime was tyrannical. He wondered if all soldiers in the empire faced such slave like positions. Cursing himself for not being more well read on the topic Myles nodded to Baudric.
“It is agreeable” Myles relented after some thought. “If you want to meet me tomorrow I can show you more about the city, otherwise I will be seeing you in two mornings before sunrise.” Pulling a piece of parchment from his pack he drew a rough map for the man of where the barracks were so that he could find Myles if he needed him. Then he drew another route that would take the man to Frankie’s a tavern that held a reputation for being the most hospitable to non-humans. For better or worse it was likely one of the best places that the man could stay and not be bothered.
“if you have need of me go to the barracks and ask for me by name, I will be leaving instructions with the head desk in regards to sending a runner to me if you make an appearance.” He debated discussing his own mission with the soldier but decided to keep his silence until he’d further felt the man out and understood his loyalties.
“As for your lodgings, I would recommend a tavern called Frankie’s. It’s a bit of a… odd establishment, particularly for Zaichaer, but they have a good reputation for being hospitable to most… foreigners” Choosing his last word with care Myles laid the coins for both the men’s drinks on the table and stood.
“Take care of yourself until we next meet Ser Baudric.”
