The shadows within the room swelled. The mark upon Lyra’s breast softly ignited as a violet flame limned with orange light wrapped itself around the ring that was pressed upon her very soul. For Lyra and for Lyrielle, the darkness wrapped around her like an embrace. There was the gentlest and softest tilting of her head as the sensation of fingers brushing along her jaw came to her. And there in the dark, the ghostly shape of a man whose true form she knew all too well. Memories passed through her in that moment. Memories from an era that was now long dead. The world had been a different place, filled with different threats but it had been no less enthralling in its danger. That touch of fingertips beneath her chin soon left her as that ghostly shape stepped back in order to fade once more into the blackness from whence it came. It paused, almost as if taking note of the Hobgoblin for the first time. That notice lingered before the shadows gathered and whispered their way to the man.

For Franky, the darkness wrapped around his wrist becoming a thin ring of black that solidified itself into place. Like a tattoo it became embedded into his skin and the dark ghostly shape of that man turned his head to peer at the Hobgoblin. Franky was acknowledged. The weight of the promise made settled upon his shoulders. The ghostly form lingered there, as if considering Franky on a much deeper level before it carried onward into the night, becoming naught but an unsettling memory.

The shadows settled. Lyra’s mark returned to its dormant state but though it returned to its slumbering quiet, it felt…different. As the darkness receded, there was the gentlest of squeezes upon Lyra’s shoulder.

Off Topic
Lyra: +1 Mark of Obtenebration at the Avowed level. Given to aid her in the fulfillment of her oath and as a seal to signify that the Dark One has accepted the oath made in his name.

Franky: +1 black tattoo around the wrist of your choice. It is a manifestation of the bargain that has been struck with Lyra. A reminder that to break it is to incur that wrath of something not mortal.

Franky did not dwell on what all this might mean in the future. He knew the price he paid, and he'd be aware of it in every plan moving forward. It was time to complete this, time was running out and Franky didn't want his people to get caught out. He still had so much to do.

As the whispers began to watch as darkness spread from Lyra's hands. It filled the space, surrounding them, but Franky did not move. Acceptance. She told him of the confidence that was expected, and he answered with a nod. She blew smoke into his face, and Franky accepted it, eyes open. It did not sting like some tobaccos, did not stick to his eyeballs like Goblin Weed. Then the smoke began to enter him, seemingly through any route it could find.

Franky focused on his heart rate, working to keep it calm and steady, his hands gripping his knees, his eyes locked on Lyra. She spoke a language Franky had never once heard before, yet he seemed to understand, in a way. The air around him seemed to be threatening to rip open, the world showing that it wasn't quite as constant as he might have thought. He continued to listen to her words. Or rather the meaning behind them. The contract was what they had agreed upon moments ago in Common and with that, Franky was satisfied.

Franky felt the weight of the room, unsure of if it was a literal one or simply something he felt. Or perhaps both. The shadows around them became them, bound them, and then it was done. If not for the severity of the situation, Franky might have chuckled at the little smoke version of himself she'd just crushed in her fist.

As he pulled his eyes away, there was something. No. Someone there, just in the hint of lightness produced by the reduced candles. They were moving, touching Lyra, but there was no shape. Franky, did not understand what he saw. He knew, he absolutely knew there was someone there, but his eyes saw nothing but a blend of darkness and light that would be expected.

And then the sensation was gone, and Franky felt the lightest touch on his left wrist, a tattoo formed there. A promise, a vow, an Oath. It was done. In came Naila, and the world of magic and divinity faded for a moment. Franky stood up, keeping to his decorum, he gave a nod to Lyra. "Thank you for receiving me this night. I will inform my staff to expect you and to assist you in any regards." Franky started toward the door, stopping to turn, and look at Lyra. He started to move his mouth, a question forming on his lips. But he stopped, smiled politely, and nodded at her once again. He allowed himself to be shown out, and set his mind forward.

Curiosities could wait. It was time to get to work.
