To be clear, the Harbingers were spread thinly through the region and it was only Thimryl and Turuher who approached the ruins on foot.
A big hand fell upon Thimryl's shoulder and through Turuher's sembling, he shared impressions of the bird's-eye view of the place. From their new vantage, they could see that while the former buildings were in utter disrepair, there seemed to be courtyard that more or less held its shape.
Flagstones were edged with rebellious greenery long since left to grow. The arches were covered with moss and vines, the stone seeming to have been carved out of some sort of stone that looked like it might be local or might not. Butterflies fluttered through a shaft of sunlight that seemed more stable than the shifting, dappled light through the moving branches of the canopy above.
"It's magical," he reported, though that was hardly a surprise. All elven ruins were magical, even if only carrying the residue of the magic used to craft them. It was the favored tool of the Hytori. Perhaps he could glean more if they were closer or he were given more time, but while Semblance was quite popular among their people, not everyone was capable of achieving mastery.
And, "All right," at Thimryl's decision. He fished something out of one of his pockets, aimed it for that more permanent breach of the canopy, and released it: a magical flare, which flew like a firebird, red and dazzling. He watched it make for the hole in the latticework of branches and nodded once it was out. It would fly high, burn brightly, and hang there until someone saw it and came to support them.
That done, he found a convenient boulder and sat down to wait.

➸Flight of the Venerable➸
➸ Thimryl felt a bit better knowing that backup was at least on the way. He didnt want to venture too far ahead near the ruin and end up overstepping bounds he had no business doing. That being said he couldnt help his own curiosity. He wondered what songs this place would sing, and he wanted to sit within the space, to hear those songs. Looking to Turuher he gave him a questioning look.
"Do you think we should go and investigate? Let us wait, but then I would hate to sit here twiddling my thumbs till then. I won't say I'm not curious about getting a closer look inside the ruin." he noted, moving to see if there was anything close to them that led to the ruins. he worried that his curiosity would get the better of him. Instead, he decided to use the gift he had been given upon joining the military. Pulling out the onyx cameo he fed a bit of his aether into it, whispering a name and before long a small bird, a raven appeared in his hand.
"Be a good sport and scout out ahead for me will you?" he requested, knowing the ornery nature of the wind spirit and how fickle it could be at times. It furled its feather before looking up at Thimryl, squawking at the elf before taking off in the direction of the ruins. He smiled before turning his attention back to the winged male. "I apologize if this is not what you wanted to do when you found the ruins. As curious as I am to explore them, I don't want to be reprimanded for not following proper protocol." he apologized, bashful eyes looking away from the man so as not to see the disappointment, if there was any. ➸

Turuher opened his mouth to answer the question, but closed it again with a bemused expression as Thimryl continued to speak, or perhaps think aloud, or fill the silence. Perhaps he was one of those elves who was nervous far from their centers of civilization; the winged elf didn't know him well enough to decide. So, he shrugged it off. Seated, he was, perhaps, less intimidating in his height.
Ultimately, he didn't mind the rest. Flying could be relaxing, especially when updrafts made it easy to just soar. He wasn't familiar with the area, though, or its air currents, so he had been putting some effort into his airborne scouting. His eyes marked the interaction with the bit of jewelry that summoned a spirit. On the visible spectrum, it was a bit of shadow and light, paradoxically juxtaposed, but when one focused, it looked more and more like a raven, though parts of it were in constant flux. It wasn't a singular raven, but a spirit of ravens, and what raven meant to it seemed to be in constant flux, as well.
The raven eyed Turuher for a moment as if unsure what an elf was doing with wings, but as it had been given aether and a task, it flew off, following what looked to be a game trail heading in the direction of the ruins.
Turuher shrugged off the apology.
"My orders were aerial scouting and supporting Harbinger Company, so it's your call." He flexed his wings, spread them wider over the boulder, and leaned back upon his hands into something like a sprawl. Wings were a bit awkward for an elf to wear, but he hadn't known a life without them.
"What about you? Did you see anything interesting out there. Sometimes I wish they would let me scout or track on the ground. If I were to injure a wing or something, I should know how to do my job still, don't you think?"

➸ Hearing explain his desire to scout on the ground was a stark contrast to how Thimryl felt. Where the avialae wanted to be grounded, the elf wished to have wings and fly. It caused him to smile, even chuckle a bit with a small amount of blush accompanying it. The more he looked at the larger male the more and more he was finding bits and pieces of him that were rather attractive. Pushing his more carnal thoughts aside he was beckoned by the squawk of the Raven spirit he called upon earlier.
Thimryl had come to know the different calls of the bird. Rapid short ones normally indicate something of an alert. This normal one gave Thimryl an all clear vibe. With a smile he allowed the bird spirit to perch itself on his he offered to it. He dismissed the bird, giving it a gentle pat, receiving a happy squawk in return. "Doesnt seem to be any danger in the ruins as far as Malphas is concerned. And I wouldn't be able to tell without first hand experience. That being said..." he began, his thoughts all coming together as one as he looked between the ruins and Turuher.
"I don't see any harm in just going to check it out. It'll give you a chance to scout on the ground for the first time." he suggested, going against his better judgment, but there was no reward without the risks he supposed. There couldn't be any harm in going to check out the ruins from a closer vantage point after all. And as long as they didn't touch or mess with something within it there was no harm really done.
It didn't take them long to get there, and on the edge of a small cliff that overlooked the ruins, Thimryl could see the ancient piece of elven history better now. It certainly looked like an arena, maybe a proving ground of some sort, but without any form of semblance, he couldn't tell for sure. Leaning a bit over the ledge he strained his eyes to see if there were any distinguishing marks he could recognize, but to no avail. Though in all his straining to see, he didn't notice the edge and lost his footing, tumbling down into the ruins themselves.
"fuck!" he hissed, groaning as he got to his feet. ➸
