"Lyra." she raised an eyebrow, setting one hand on her hip. She did not like being referred to as 'my lady'. It sent a chill down her spine, and a sense of dread filled her soul. Something about those words... struck a chord within her, but as she tried to search her memories for the reason all she found was a blank emptiness. With a shake of her head, Lyra tried to put the thought from her mind, but she could not quite shake the unease that settled in her chest.
When Talon made his conjecture as to her craft Lyra almost laughed but held herself back. Her smile turned into a sneer as she shook her head.
"Pah'cal et Fiore." Her words dripped with disdain as she crossed her own arms. The words roughly translated to 'They might wish it', or 'they would envy such'. "I have seen what passes for the old ways." Disgust painted her face as she looked up at the glyphs on the ceiling, "It is like watching children play with food meant for kings." She almost spat to the side, such were her emotions welling deep within, but she refrained.
Anger, disgust, disappointment, and a deep, bone wrenching sadness swirled within, and for several seconds Lyra merely stared upward at the ceiling. She shouldn't feel this way. It did not make sense. She was the Whisper, King Breaker, the voice of madness and lust. At one time she was hailed as just short of a goddess herself, so why... why did she feel so broken? Had she not wanted those ancient people to suffer? Had she not planned to drown them all in a world of their own debaucheries? Lyrielle should not feel as if she wished to weep, just because the world she knew was gone.
"I am--" she paused, "I was a Dinor'afiel." her eyes came down to look at Talon, and she shrugged, turning slightly to look at the other wall of items, "Keeper of Secrets, Scribe of the Gods, Aetheric Chronicler. The meaning is somewhat lost on this tongue. I am one who records in the language of magic, pictographs, glyphs, and rituals. Among other things." It was almost humorous, though when she turned back around Lyra's eyes did not hold much amusement, "To compare us to what your people call Scriveners is... amusing."
Pointing up Lyra continued in a more neutral tone, "This schema is what we refer to as Thallium's Cage. It has a variety of uses and can be modified based on connecting glyphs, allowed space, and aetheric concentration. That is what this design is meant to be," she dropped her finger and rested both hands on her hips, turning in a circle and looking at the glyphs once more, "But the one who designed this was inexperienced."
"Does this interest you, Be'melar?" Completing her turn she faced Talon once more, one eyebrow raised, "In exchange for a glimpse into your process, I will share with you more if you wish."

“Lyra.” Talon spoke the woman’s name. It was foreign to his tongue but it wasn’t unpleasant. He gave her a nod of his head. He listened as she spoke on what she had observed about the feats of magic and something she referred to as the old ways. Her manner of speech seemed a bit off to Talon. It was as though she were speaking of a far off distant time rather than a distant land that she called home. Humans didn’t live much longer than a single century. His own people sometimes reached to see two centuries if they were particularly fortunate in their lineage. As she spoke on what she was, or rather, what she had been, Talon’s eyebrows slowly crept upward. He had never heard of these Scribes of the Gods or Aetheric Chroniclers. That was not to say they could not exist. Talon was not an arcane scholar. He was a warrior and a craftsman. The finer nuances of scholarly magic were something that he did not fully grasp and he knew this about himself. What he practiced he did so in the interest of an artisan’s curiosity and a fighter’s prowess. Such was the way of his people.
Talon eyed the glyphs that lined the walls of his shop. He could follow her explanation fairly simply. At the mention of the wizard’s inexperience in crafting what she referred to as Thallium’s Cage, Talon frowned. This didn’t surprise him too much. What he had asked for was not something ordinarily done in many of the business places around Kalzasi. He was one of the only semi-freelance magical crafters in the city. He was not the only one but they were a handful in number, if that. The majority of arcane craftsmanship belonged to the Circle of Spells or the House Briathos vassals. It was just one more reason why he both needed an apprentice and why he needed to learn more of Scrivening in order to ensure that his works were up to his personal standards.
“Thank you for your insight, Lyra.” He folded his arms over his chest and rocked back and forth on his feet slightly. “I admit that Thallium’s Cage is not something I am familiar with but it sounds exactly like something that would be of great use to me.”
He paused for a moment as he considered her offer. His grey eyes lingered on her features as though there was some insight to be gleaned from simply staring at her.He could have peered into her aura but he was beginning to think he needed to take a reprieve from his magical efforts that day. Perceiving and exploring her aura as he had moments ago made him believe that he was in need of food, drink and a bit of rest. He reminded himself that he had been stressed in days of late as well as crafting all morning. It was no wonder he did not perceive her aura as focused as he would have liked. Besides, if he were going to show her a bit of insight into his processes then he needed to conserve his strength for the time being.
“I will accept this offer. Come. I will show you my forge and lend insight into my methods. Perhaps once you see what it is that I do, you will know what it is that you wish from my shop.” He offered her a smile before stepping to the side and gesturing to the staircase at the rear of the shop.
“This way.”

Lyra watched as the man thought over her offer. She carefully folded her hands at her waist, tilting her head slightly while she searched his features. She tuned into the melody of his soul, listening to the shifting tones. He was weighing her words, measuring them against something that her magic could not reveal. This was the limit of her abilities. Something Lyrielle had learned long long ago. She could measure the what, but never the why.
When Talon finally spoke Lyra smiled in return, dipping her head slightly and moving her hands so that they were clasped behind her back. She looked past him, toward the stairs.
"You have my gratitude." Lyra said as she passed the man, glancing to meet his grey eyes, "I believe we shall have much to offer one another, Be'melar." Her words twisted with magic, soft and soothing, but was gone as quick as it began. With that Lyra turned and made her way toward the stairs, one hand lightly touching the railing for balance as she made her way down into the forge below.

Comment: Lyra is ever the fascinating character in my book, I really do love her quirks and antics when she's interacting with the world. And Talon of course was a wonderful part of the equation in this thread, the interactions between two characters kept me interested right to the end!
