Appearance
Sumerki has a medium toned complexion and white, mid-back length hair. All but the top is shaved which is often worn in a ponytail. His eyes are a light grey with pale blue markings around them. He wears quite a few piercings and has a preference for chains. There’s always at least a couple bangles on his wrists and the majority of his jewelry is silver or a pale blue. Nails are long and pointed. He prefers more loose fitting clothing. He’s of average build, more so on the toned side.
His right ear has a sliver missing due to a sparring mishap with one of his siblings.
Sumerki has numerous tattoos, most of which resemble moons and its various phases. The center of his chest has an empty circle, a space left clear for painting glyphs.
He carries a thick journal on him, which he takes all his notes in, mostly pertaining to the arts of schrivening.
Personality
Sumerki a bit on the blunt side of things. He’s not a good liar at all, and doesn’t see the point in it anyway. He gives his honest opinions whether they’re appreciated or not. He spares no feelings when it comes to telling the truth. He doesn’t have much to say otherwise. It’s very obvious when he doesn’t find someone or something interesting; he’s just not great at feigning interest. But, when he is intrigued in something or someone, they have his full attention.
He’s an introvert, but not exactly a loner as he does enjoy company. Not necessarily a crowd, but a small, close gathering. A quiet night with one or two individuals is much preferred over a group. It’s more the presence of others he enjoys. He loves to read, the older the book, the more he wants to get his hands on it. He has a small habit of hoarding. A minor issue, of course because they can be useful.
Sumerki has a very loose moral code. And he doesn’t hold everyone to the same moral standards. If someone wants to steal, so long as it’s not from him, who is he to care? He personally wouldn’t do it unless there’s no other option, but he’s not going to go out of his way to stop someone else. He doesn’t exactly see it as his business. But he also won’t lie for the perpetrator if asked.
When he has his eyes set on something, he doesn’t like to take no for an answer, and though he won’t force a decision, he will become rather persistent. He won’t do anything he doesn’t want to do, so he doesn’t expect others to do so.
He also has a tendency to hold eye contact; sometimes for a little longer than what is comfortable.
Once someone gets to know him, it becomes clear he’s actually quite soft and a little sentimental. He’ll listen to people’s stories all the way through and cling to every word of a song. Regardless of his problems with attention, he can hold interest for those he cares about.
History
He spent a good chunk of his life in Auris, and still does have a family there. They're not exactly close, but they don’t have great disdain for one another either. But it became clear there was some tension as he wasn’t as acclimated as magic as most. He was a lot slower at showing any sort of talent when compared to most others. That’s what spurred him to leave. He left with the hopes of traveling and learning from others so he can return with a new sense of pride. He has no intentions of returning with nothing to show from it.
Sumerki goes from area to area, often staying for a few months to a few years learning all he can. He moves on mostly to keep things interesting and to keep himself from becoming stagnant. He has to remind himself none of these are permanent stays, but merely educational travels. He has studied from both magic users and artists alike, but he has yet to fully delve into any of his teachings.
It matters not the subject, he’s willing to study it all. He especially seeks out those with less than favorable reputations. Mostly out of curiosity about how they obtained such status. He would rather hear from the source as opposed to rumors. This has led him to staying in some unfavorable living arrangements, but he saw it as nothing more than an experience. As well as getting a few stares of his own.
During his travels, he has worked a few odd jobs, most of which were unpaid for the return of teachings. None were outright demeaning, but quite a few were rather questionable. Some of these may have resulted in the occasional arrest, but again, it was all part of the experience.
