₪ The season of glade had come and was preparing to take the place of Frost. Siorey was eager to speak with Mariette after having exhausted his resources within the tower in learning about the Stygian Eye. He found himself having more questions than answers. But most of all he wanted her particular expertise.
He sat nervously as he was unsure if Mariette would even agree to give him insight or access to her own library of knowledge. Then again the Hytori was a woman who knew an opportunity when she saw it and wouldn't pass up a chance to get her hands on this artifact. Either way, his nerves were causing a clamminess on his hands as he waited, his left leg restless as he waited to see his mentor.
An attendant soon came into the parlor where he was in and greeted him. She informed him that Mariette was out in the garden and that he was to bring Siorey to her. Nodding he followed him, through the home of a woman Siorey saw from time to time, that is if she wasn't visiting him at the tower on business. Honestly, he wasn't sure if this was a good idea. They had a business relationship mostly, more so than a mentor and student one.
He knew of Mariette due to the Hytori's connection and association with the Circle of Spells. Other than those details Siorey knew absolutely nothing about the woman, as she was often aloof and distant in personal matters with him. What scared him the most was that he couldnt shake the feeling that Mariette mostly saw him as a piece on a chessboard to fulfill her agendas. Taking that into account he began to look around as he was escorted to the woman.
Her home was well furnished, which Siorey noted as Mariette seemed to have quite the hefty amount of money to afford such things. He felt out of place, giving his own lodgings and what he had to do to survive. Regardless he would meet his mentor with a resolve that would be unshakable.
"I take it this must be important if you have come to me instead of going to those within the tower." he hissed, a playful tone on her lips, as about as playful as a serpent slithering into your bed at night. She had been tending to her garden as I stood there, nervous but determined. "Well don't just stand there, out with it boy."
She tilted her head just enough to where her peripheral caught his eyes. Clearing his throat he crept closer to her, coming to kneel next to the woman. "I have been looking into something known as the Stygian Eye. I was wondering if you had any insight as to what this artifact could be." he explained, handing over what little he knew of the stone from the books in Tower.
There was silence as she looked over what he had written, and after a few moments she handed it back to him. She stood and motioned for him to follow, leading him back into the house. She came to lead him to her library, his eyes widening at the sight before him. There were so many books he couldn't even count them all. Mariette, using her kinetic magic, plucked several books from the shelves as she made herself comfortable.
"These are all the tomes and texts on eldritch artifacts I have at my disposal. You may use them to learn more about the Eye." she purred, her eyes looking into Siorey as he stood in front of the table of knowledge. With wide eyes of excitement, he dove into the first one.
"So tell me Siorey, why the interest in this artifact?" she inquired, Siorey not looking up to her as his eyes scanned page after page. "Because a bunch of fools plan to sell this piece of knowledge and I refuse to allow that. As such, I plan to obtain for myself, and study it." he whispered in Mythrasi, as he was comfortable speaking around the Hytori woman.
Though she was of the same race as his father, Mariette showed ample disdain for his father, which was more than enough proof that she could be trusted. His response made her giggle, if only lightly as she knew this to be what attracted her attention to him in the first place. She would only watch him as he studied each page.
After several hours of reading, nothing in them seemed to be of note, or even mention the artifact at all. It was either something that held information on Thutlu, a Mistlord he was quite familiar with given his family's cult-like obsession with the entity, or the sphere of spirits used in summoning. He was about to give up hope, but it seemed the final book held something of importance. From all of the books selected it seemed only one held something of note to him.
This entry spurred Sio to show it to his mentor who read it, tapping her finger on the table next to her. "I know this handwriting, it's an old acquaintance of mine who wrote it. He was quite to Elementalist and scholar of his time but had become a recluse after one of his adventures left him hollow for lack of a better term. I always wondered what had shaken him up so badly, but now I see it's this artifact of yours. " she mused, setting down the text as she looked to Siorey.
He had this look of eagerness in his eyes, a hunger to know more and she knew what would come from his next. "You wish to meet him don't you?" she teased. Siorey nodded his head like a dog wanting a bone she could only respond with a chuckle as she rose from her seat. "You are not afraid that pursuing this artifact could invite ruin unto you? It made him quite mad, rambling to himself and such."
"When have you known me not to seek out the truth for myself Lady Laveau. There is no risk too great in the search for knowledge, you should know this about me by now." he replied, the hunger in his eyes growing as his thoughts flooded his mind on what this mage could tell him of the eye.
Mariette quirked her head to the side as she appraised Siorey for a moment, then turned to leave the library, motioning for Siorey to follow. "Come back in a day or two and we will seek him out together, as I too am curious about this Stygian Eye and its origins. Until then I would suggest you figure out how you plan to deal with these treasure hunters when the time comes."
Escorting him to the front door, she turned to him and gave a look of curiosity to him. It was something he found she did when she held something up her sleeve, which meant she would no doubt throw a curveball at him in the days coming. With a bow to his mentor, he bowed as he exited her home. Waiting for him outside was Dhasali, prompt and ready to depart her estate at Siorey's command.
Did you learn anything from Lady Laveau young Kozoku? he asked, helping Siorey onto his horse. "Only that the artifact caused an acquaintance she knew to go mad from his encounter with it. It just means he was weak-minded and couldn't handle it." he replied harshly, which caused Dhasali to chuckle.
Not everyone is as strong willed as you sir. he agreed to which Siorey nodded in agreeance. "I wont say this was all a waste of time however, as in two days time I shall have my answers." ₪

I find myself astonished at what this artifact can do.
With a single touch, I see visions of things that would send normal men insane, hearing whispers from places out of sight.
I dream of places unknown to mankind.
It feels as though I am being compelled to find a certain place, hidden from mortal eyes, only shown to those worthy.
I've been seeing it in my dreams as of late, these ruins but broken, fractured, as if I'm missing something.
I wish I knew what the Eye was trying to show me, or what it was I was lacking in order see the picture clearly.
The answers are so close, yet I feel as though I am too far from the truth to even understand what these answers really are.
