Name: Plopper
Habitat: The Warrens, typically on ceilings over areas that are wet
Rarity: Very Common
Threat: Low - Medium
Description: Ploppers are small creatures, with tentacle like appendages that serve as limbs. They do not get much larger than a large serving platter. They maintain a long tail with a barbed stinger on it the end of it. The entire creature is covered in an exoskeleton, similar to that of a scorpion. On its belly, it has a mouth with suckers around it and a bladed tongue.
Biome Role: Minor Predator
Diet: Ploppers consume the bodily fluids of anything that is alive, blood being the favorite.
Aging & Reproduction: Ploppers live for three to four years, reaching sexual maturity in 1 year. They mate in a fashion similar to most egg laying creatures, and lay eggs in an extremely damp environment.
Size: Adults range from the size of a hand to a large serving platter.
Abilities and Features:
Strong Sense of Foreign Smell: Ploppers predominately attack anything that smells either of blood or smells foreign to the Warrens. It is the only sense they use to detect beings. Beings or even people who venture into the Warrens regularly eventually stop being harassed by Ploppers. Veteran Dead Legionnaires tend to not ever be bothered by them unless they are bleeding. New Legionnaires and people who regularly go top side tend to be harassed by them a lot, bleeding or not. They hibernate on the ceilings of the tunnels in damp areas of the Warrens, and wake when they smell something to hunt. They then drop down on it, attempt to latch on with their limbs, and use their bladed tongue to cut open the flesh and drink the blood. They will share a victim among their own kind, so a person being ambushed by dozens of Ploppers or more is fairly common.
Eggs: These are highly nutritious. A single egg provides enough nutrition for a full day of exertion for an adult. If dried out, the eggs will not hatch, and they will not rot or otherwise go bad. Tastes like bad chicken liver.
Bladed Tongue: The blade in the tongue is especially sharp, comparable to obsidian but far more durable.
Poison barb and poison sac: The creatures have a poison but the barb isn't used for hunting purposes but rather for fighting with one another. The poison isn't lethal, regardless of dose. It does, however, cause immense pain in the victim, regardless of whether it was injected or ingested.
Exoskeleton: Brittle, similar to a crustacean.
Flesh: Edible, tastes like swamp water.
Cultural Significance (If applicable): None really. A pest.
Reasons to interact: Typically not by choice, but can be hunted.
Recommended Stats: Novice combat for dealing with one, higher for more.
