Jacun's Alchemical Goods

"Well, do you prefer gold or silver as an agonist?" Sivan asked in Mythrasi. He nodded in response to Jacun's answer, though his master replied in Common, wanting his apprentice to keep practicing the language of the city in order to better communicate with customers at the very least. The alchemical question answered, Sivan returned to the front of the store so Jacun could work. It remained quiet and so he made a pot of tea and took it to the desk where he worked on things while manning the storefront. While Jacun had known his previous master, Sivan sometimes wondered if he hadn't taken Sivan on more to relieve him from sitting up front all the time.

The tea had alchemically enhanced extracts in it: ginseng, guarana, sage. Sivan hadn't expected to learn about herbalism while learning about alchemy, but it was often a more elegant alchemical solution to enhance something naturally occurring than to try to create it out of nothing but magical energy. It was one thing to learn how to do a thing; it was quite another thing to learn how to do a thing well, being economical about the power in to produce the power out.

He felt his senses sharpen, his mind grow more alert, and his mood settle as the first tiny sip of tea hit his stomach, and then settled into the task at hand: scratching out his notes for the project he was working on—a magic mirror. Torin had mentioned something about runeforging a set of pendants through which two people could speak over a great distance. Sivan wondered if there was an alchemical solution to the communication problem and Jacun had given him permission to try to work out the problem. If it looked workable, he might even let Sivan attempt it, though it would have a much higher chance of success if Jacun assisted him. Perhaps it would be beyond his ability to execute, though, and it would remain a thought experiment until Jacun deemed him skilled enough to make it work.

If Jacun would teach him how to transmute lead into gold, the supply of gold wouldn't be such a problem if he decided it would make the best agonist. Sivan still suspected the whole transmutation thing was a standing joke and that Jacun was laughing at him about it, but that remained to be seen. There was quite a bit about alchemy that was nothing like what Sivan had imagined at first, and other bits of folk wisdom that were actually true. The world was strange like that.

He looked up from the desk when he heard the door start to open. It never failed but he got on a roll with a project and a customer showed up. The job would have been much better without customers at all, but this was part of his apprenticeship. At least the tea was improving his mood.

The sound of footsteps patted along the road as the circle mage made his way toward his destination, a mind of what he was looking for. He needed to gather alchemic items for this raid he was planning, or more so the ingredients for making what he had in mind if he couldn't buy it outright.

He knew that taking on a party of this size would be difficult, even for him and Dhasali, he knew he would need help. He would need a capable team and more so the tools to effectively deal with any surprises the warrens may have wanted to through his way. In order to prepare he would visit the local alchemy shops, see what those who knew their craft well enough to branch out and make money off it for their advice on what to get.

Most would try to make a sale regardless of what he asked, but he knew that in a place like Kalzasi there would have to be an alchemist worth their salt who would help him, and not be trying to get what was in his coin purse. Dhasali gave the suggestion for the first stop, Jacun's Alchemical Goods. It wasn't a name Siorey knew well, if at all, but he figured if Dhasali vouched for it he would give it a shot.

"I hoping to find something specific my lord, or hoping something catches your eye." Dhasali inquired, keeping his pace with Siorey, but at a respectable distance. Siorey smiled and kept moving forward, though his tone was as if he was looking at his bodyguard. "If it helps in dealing with the treasure hunters, it will do, as I dont beleive you and I can handle them on our own. We need an edge."

He smiled after his words seeing the shop coming into view. Crossing the threshold of the shop, Siorey looked around, his eyes immediately scanning through the shelves as he snaked his way through the shop moving towards the front counter, noticing the clerk was there. "Excuse me, but would you happen to hav......." he began only to stop mid-question to see the man behind the counter.

It was the elf from the night of the Dreadmists, recognizing the man's face immediately. Knowing this, he immediately switched to a more comfortable speech. "Its been quite some time since we last spoke, Sivan correct? I was not expecting to see you hear of all places." not realizing it Siorey was smiling, something he didnt do often, but seeing someone familiar was comforting to him, if only for a little bit, his paranoia slowly creeping its ugly head up.

It took Sivan a moment to place the man. He was striking in appearance, but the winter months in Kalzasi had been fraught for him between worry for Flower, for IX, the fresh mourning for his past master, and struggling under a new master, Master Jacun the Alchemist, and trying to learn as much Common as possible as quickly as possible. It had been a lot.

He smiled faintly. His language had improved and he was a bit more comfortable in Kalzasi, but he was still an awkward sort of person.

"Master Val'Maranthy," he greeted respectfully, even though the man was clearly younger than him. This far from Sol'Valen, the difference in their social standing was still clear. And even here, he knew the man was part of the Circle of Spells, which lent him more social status than an independent practitioner. "Yes, I am Sivan Len'Myren. I'm Master Jacun's apprentice. You'll be happy to know my Common has improved since Frost."

He nodded to the bodyguard, not recalling if he had heard his name on that strange night. If so, that particular memory had been lost to the Dread Mists.

"Master Jacun is currently occupied with something rather delicate in his workshop and likely won't be available for at least another hour, but perhaps I might be able to help you?" After months under the Master's tutelage, his skills at alchemy were improving and he certainly knew his way around the shop by now. It was entirely possible a Circle Mage would require the Master's attention, but if Siorey Val'Maranthy was only here to make normal purchases or ask after certain alchemical creations, Sivan could certainly field questions and see to his needs.

"Would you gentlemen care for tea?"

As much as this was a storefront and a workshop, it was also a place that some magi came to sit around, drink tea, coffee, or other energizing beverages, and talk about things from the magical to the mundane.

He was glad to see the elf but his facial features went back to the business at hand, bringing up a hand to politely decline the offer of tea. "No thank you, but I am in the market for some alchemical potions, preferably something that can incapacitate someone or even a large group of people." Realizing how that may have sounded he quickly cleared up any misunderstanding Sivan may have been building.

"A group of people plan on stealing a very important artifact from the warrens, and I plan to stop them. I need something that won't kill them outright, but will keep them out of my way." he explained, his eyes searching Sivan, examining the elf now that he was able to see him in daylight.

He was an interesting thing to look at, Siorey's mind examining the elf's build, the way his facial features fit his bone structure. He didn't really find the physical attractive, but more so it was the fact the young elf to be intellectual and a man with a bright mind. He admired that so his demeanor softened.

"Alchemy isn't my strong suit, as I am more of a personal magic practitioner, rather than dabbling in world magic. I have always been curious to learn, so I am trying to branch out. I figure if I couldn't find what I needed, I could at least get the ingredients and experiment on my own." he explained.

His eyes fell on Sivan for a bit till he came to place his hands on the counter the man was standing behind. "Anything you would suggest?"

Sivan found himself nodding along as Siorey related his needs. He blinked, smiled, and nodded more firmly when the man assured him he wasn't going to use the potions for entirely nefarious purposes. But magical conundrums were thought experiments to Sivan at first, so it wasn't until the Circle Mage brought the ethical question to his attention that he even considered it. The elf wasn't a sociopath, but he often saw problems as things to be solved and his morals only came into the mix when he had to decide on a course of action.

"Incapacitated in the Warrens can be as good as death depending on the circumstances," he noted, sticking to Mythrasi because he was fluent there and better spoken. He would rather not people assume he was stupid because he hadn't mastered his third language yet. Not everyone had proven so close-minded, but enough did that he sought to avoid it.

"But I am certain a Circle Mage knows what applications of incapacitating potions are legal and which are not." Master Jacun seemed to be of the mind that most things were salable. If people used them for evil or illegal things, then he was just giving them enough rope to hang themselves. There were some creations that were kept under lock and key, mundane and magical, that Sivan wasn't allowed to sell, that Jacun wanted to have tighter control of. Sivan mostly agreed with his master's point of view, though he would hate to find he had aided and abetted a date rapist when he made something that was supposed to help with insomnia. Not that he assumed anything of the sort relating to Val'Maranthy, of course.

"Alchemy isn't my strong suit either," he admitted with a rueful smile, "but that is why I am here." He didn't offer up his magical curriculum vitae, of course. Circle Mages made him a touch nervous; he was always worried they would try to bring him into the fold. "But I should be able to help you. First, we ought to narrow down the specifics so I can get you the correct potion in a sufficient amount. Could you estimate how many people you need to be incapacitated? By incapacitation, would you prefer sleep, paralysis, sedation, or other? How long would you like the effects to last? What means of transmission: drinking, breathing, skin contact...?"

Sivan was probably asking too many questions to suit the man, but he wanted to do his job well and thoroughly. Master Jacun's reputation depended on the efficacy of his work, and so they had to try to minimize human error.

He chuckled at Sivan's notion that being unconscious in the Warrens was a death wish. He was smart enough to know this and Siorey appreciated that. His next question caused a sly smirk to creep onto his face at the insulation. "Of course not, but when knowledge is at stake nothing is off-limits."

It was time to get down with business, and Sivan was in the same mindset. Narrowing down his specifics would help and he was glad that Sivan was heading in that same direction. Looking at the plans he had gotten from the one man, he let out a sigh."At least 15. As far as incapacitation goes, as long as they don't get in my way that's all that matters. Be it sleep, paralysis, or even death as long as I am able to get the treasure they are trying to steal."

The other questions made him ponder as he never considered it before now. He may not be an alchemist but these were things he needed to consider if he was to employ this time of magic. He knew alchemical agents didn't last long but he would need at least thirty minutes to get the artifact.

As for how he wanted them to be affected, he knew that much. "I know I want it to be an inhalent. Breathing it in seems to be the best way to go, as any other form would require me to get close to them. I would rather just toss it, let the vial break and allow them to breath it in."

Sivan took some notes, though they were largely unnecessary. He took extensive notes when planning out a work of alchemy or artificing, but his path was often academic and he could remember quite a bit by rote or just easy recall. All the same, he didn't want Val'Maranthy to think he was being inattentive. But the man wore a black robe and so he kept his notes clear on the expanse between them so he could see that there was nothing underhanded going on.

The elf had a good handle on what they had in stock. He also knew what the workload was.

"I think that gives us enough to work with," he said, nodding thoughtfully. "How soon do you need it? I am certain we could have it prepared for you within three days, but if you require that we expedite it, Master Jacun will charge more to put it ahead of other projects we are working on."

He always hated to give bad news, probably because he was used to people not liking him anyway, and being the bearer of bad news only worsened things.

"But that will also give me time to contract an air elemental to store at the bottom of the vessel so that when it breaks, you can be certain anyone within a given radius will inhale the incapacitating agent. A weapon that thinks." He smiled, thinking such a quick task wouldn't require much aether to sweeten the pot for an elemental. It wouldn't need to be a powerful one, just intelligent enough to suss out the targets. He didn't normally volunteer more about himself than was necessary, but his summoning could add value to the purchase and it behooved him to keep Master Jacun's customers happy so Master Jacun stayed happy with him. The man was a wealth of knowledge and Sivan wanted to soak it all up before the time came for him to set out on his own.

"I'm in no rush, take as much time as you need, it'll give me the time I need to acquire the appropriate funds to pay for this." he said with a polite smile. No that was more than enough time to set things in order and in motion. Siorey was glad to see that some progress was being made in his endeavor, but Sivan surprised him even more with the next few words he spoke.

A curious tilt of the half hytori's head came as the other elf revealed he was a summoner, and one that contracted elemental spirits, like the ones Dhasali called upon. His interests piqued, Siorey held a big smile on his face. "I too am a practitioner of Summoning myself." he beamed, closing his eyes as he entered that special place. His eyes opened, colors reflecting the ones that glowed faintly on his rune, as he whispered a name.

"Taberu" at those mention of its name, the eldritch jellyfish came into the material world, the sound of water droplets permeating the air around it as it came through the inky smoke of a portal. Proud Siorey held out a hand to which the spirit dance about, coming to rest on Siorey's head, which made the circle mage smile, if only for a moment.

"Im curious, how you came upon being a summoner. My rune was forced upon me, and as you see I am an eldritch summoner." there was a clear tone of excitement and intrigue in his voice as he looked to Sivan. It was rare to see another summoner outside of the Circle.

Sivan nodded, making a note of the time estimate he had given. When Val'Maranthy quit the premises, if the store was clear, he would bring the paper immediately to his master—or as soon as he took a break from his delicate work—and the man himself could decide whether he would make such a thing for a black-robed sorcerer who intended to use it in the Warrens. The elf abdicated all responsibility for that decision. He didn't know enough about the Tower and its politics or how it fit into the politics of Kalzasi to make any sort of decision on that, but Master Jacun did.

"Oh," he began, both startled out of Mythrasi and because the man had stopped using it. Eldritch creatures weren't necessarily evil, and Sivan was well aware that the ideas of good and evil were malleable, even when it came to celestials and infernals. All the same, even working as an apprentice alchemist, he wasn't used to people just showing off their magic out of nowhere. Perhaps it was a custom of Kalzasi, or the Tower of Lore.

He nodded appreciatively. "Taberu," he murmured because names were important in summoning and he knew less about the eldritch spirits than others. It looked like a humanoid skull trapped in a translucent sea jelly. It was fascinating. Typically, Sivan was entirely too careful with his summons, summoning well below his pay grade so he could be certain he wasn't forming a less than binding or mutually beneficial concordance. And so, his spirits lacked such definitive form. Even Exael, with whom he hoped to eventually perform a sacrament, bided its time in a largely incorporeal state.

"I look Hytori," he explained, "but my mother is Dratori. I inherited the ability to spiritwalk. Summoning seemed a logical extension from there." As a generalist, it would be some time before he could call forth beings as powerful as this man did, but in the end, he hoped to be more adaptable when he came into his power.

His eyes expanded with curiosity as this was something unknown to him. Who knew a race was naturally blessed to walking with spirits. It fascinated Siorey when Sivan explained his background. He wondered what kind of summoner Sivan was, and he couldn't contain his intrigue as the only other summoners he knew outside of Dhasali were his family, and they weren't the best examples. Not only that the summoners within the Circle were just a bunch of idiots in his eyes, so he would never bother to interact with any of them unless needed.

Taking out a piece of paper and something to write with, Siorey jotted something down on the paper. "If you ever wish to practice or train together in the magic, feel free to reach out to me, I would love to have someone else to learn from besides the taskmaster behind me." he joked, causing a chuckle to come from Dhasali.

"If there is anything you need of me to fulfill the order? Otherwise, I don't wish to take up any more of your time." he added, sliding the paper to Sivan, his eyes grazing over the blonde elf before him. Sivan was the first Dratori he had ever met, so he couldn't help but look at the other summoner with curious eyes, a curiosity that hungered to know how he ticked, how the spirit walking ability he spoke of worked.

Seeing how there really was nothing more to discussed siorey was prepared to leave, that was unless Sivan had something he was wanting to know, otherwise the circle mage would conclude his business and be on his way.
