Appearance
Being of fairly average height for a Human woman (if not on the somewhat taller side of that average), Lucia was blessed with unblemished fair skin and light blonde hair that she keeps cut short. She is quite content with her looks, and is especially proud of her bright and sharp amber eyes; her figure is not quite athletic nor is it powerful, but it lies somewhere in-between. She is in good physical shape for certain. The way she moves often lacks in grace or finesse, and may be compared better to a gruff old man than a young adult woman. She is very expressive in both her facial expressions and body language.
Lucia often dresses in casual, loose-fitting shirts and long well-fitting pants; having always been something of a tomboy, they're comfortable for her and easy to move around in given her job. Her experience in the military only solidified her comfort with these sorts of clothes.
Her clear, bright voice carries well and sits somewhere in the lower mezzo-soprano range. If she were musically-inclined at all she might have picked up singing, as her voice is well-suited for it, but the best she knows how to do is hum.
Personality
On the surface, Lucia appears to be a fairly easygoing and amicable individual. That surface-level view would not be incorrect - she is easy to get along with, and is just dim enough to not always know when somebody is insulting her. To act and think later is her modus operandi - her military training has only made her better at following orders on the whole.
That said, she is not without a moral compass, hammered into her by a mother and father with far more life experience than she - ingrained in her being so deeply that no amount of military indoctrination could pull it out by the roots. While simplistic and not well-thought-out, she does believe in rights and wrongs, and often grapples with the wrongs she has and wishes to commit, trying to frame them back into 'rights'.
"Good enough" is one of Lucia's favorite phrases. If it seems adequate enough, she's perfectly content to leave it as it is. That said, she has a fair amount of confidence in herself, so when what seems adequate to her is challenged, she has a tendency to get annoyed - although she tries to avoid arguing about it.
Lucia has much trouble trying to understand and apply abstract concepts; she works much better with hands-on-experience or when things are simple and easy to understand. She can tend to fall into a pattern of black-and-white thinking when presented with something that falls somewhere in the middle.
History
Growing up in Zaichaer seemed normal to Lucia. And indeed it was, for the people who lived there: soldiers patrolling the streets, justice by a military trial, strict control over the population's lives were all commonplace. Born to Herman and Mabel Schildknecht, Lucia grew up loved and nurtured in whatever ways her parents could provide. When her mother fell ill in her late teens, Lucia joined the military in order to bolster the family income to make sure she could be taken care of. Although her father tried to convince her it wasn't necessary and out of concern for her well-being, Lucia would not listen, and joined regardless.
She remained a rank-and-file foot soldier in the Zaichaer Defense Corps for about two years, from the age of 17 to 19. Her exodus from the Military was also the catalyst for her flight from Zaichaer: In her ignorance, she accidentally stumbled upon a web of corruption amongst lower-ranking officers that also implicated one of the higher-ranked officers, a Col. Sebastian Holmwood, who was at the center of the conspiracy. In the course of this stumbling, she also 'accidentally' eavesdropped on a conversation between two of the perpetrators, and in the course of curiously following this trail, she fell onto evidence that Holmwood had been arresting and executing individuals who had gotten in his way on bogus charges and planted evidence. Next on the list was her father, a fairly prominent resident of Verowa End and an outspoken critic of Holmwood; he'd been interrogated several times for his 'seditionist' thought, but nothing had ever come from it.
Seeking to intercept the officers on their way to her parents' home and stop them and expose Holmwood's corruption in a public space, her plan was not very well prepared. She confronted the officers, who were led by Holmwood, and a skirmish broke out. In the fighting all parties were wounded; she killed one of the officers in the skirmish and stole Holmwood's weapon - a long rifle - and managed to escape with her life.
After the fight, Lucia managed to evade patrols and police and fled to Kalzasi, seeking asylum as she was now wanted for murder and treason. Thankfully the Kalzasi people were willing to accept her - for a price. She was forthcoming with what she knew of the Zaichaerian military, though as a grunt the information wasn't exactly enlightening. Regardless, she was allowed refuge and at least for now relative safety from the justice system of her home.
Regrettably, her father did not escape his fate, and was subsequently arrested. Whether or not he has been executed or his trial has happened yet is unknown to Lucia. She keeps Holmwood's rifle on her person whenever she can, and vows that she will take his life in exchange for her father's and for the betterment of Zaichaer - in her eyes, his implement of corruption is a tool only useful in ending his life.
