An interesting observation Dakkur had over the past couple of days since the start of the parades and celebrations was despite the supply of runesmithed shells being controlled by Zaichaer's military and the Order of Reconciliation, there was a neverending demand of it from those with their firearm permits as if it wasn't an issue to them to begin with. It seems like the typical bureaucratic inefficiency from the separation of the College of Minders with the former meant there were those who were able to slip through the cracks of shells they were allowed to have if not for his more likely suspicion that the entire issue simply is not high up enough there; these organizations had other concerns which are their priority to deal with though with the amount of shells which passed into the hand of the plenty of hopefuls who wanted to win the contests or impress the army recruiters which spent the ready shelf stock, he was starting to suspect it was more of an attitude the higher ups wanted to foster to headhunt the resourceful and capable.Maybe he ought to keep an eye on those who bought their ammo since the start of the festivities and an even closer eye on those known to have approached the Riverland Corps earlier in the season. Should Dakkur's stay in Zaichaer extend for even longer than he expected it to, they would certainly become useful contacts for him in the future and if he was the practical sort, they could even be useful targets for the Doelishs once the family starts to resume their activities. Actually thinking on it a little further... if he assumed the qualities the Zaichaer career militants were looking for correctly in their prospective peers with a promising future, he shouldn't be looking for those buying up the shells they needed ever since the festivities began. That would prove to be poor planning on their part. What he should be looking for are those who approached Riverland Corps and had been stocking up on their ammo from earlier in the season. Maybe those who had theirs custom made too to be fit for the competitions they were going to participate in.
An exercise which could prove to be most useful once he got to it but one which was wasting too much of his time at the present which would be left for another day as the spent supply of caster shells was more important problem which needed to be dealt with. The speed at which the stock had to be replenished, fast, would therefore jeopardize the quality of the caster shells making it more prone to imperfections, or so it was explained to Dakkur as the reason why they had to take the utmost care in managing this particular project and minimizing the margin of error. The fact it was not Dakkur himself making the shells does not mean he had no contributions to make. As far as the plan was, a large chunk of Viscerite was going to be made to save time so it could all be done at once. This meant whoever is going to be on the taxing task of quickly processing the raw materials on their own was going to have to be able to commit their full attention on it.
Therefore Dakkur was going to have assist with everything else. This began with taking inventory and fortunately while the management of their caster shells was evidently, dismal, there was still plenty of Dragonshard left lying around as caster shells were not the only things which could be made with runesmithing. Terrasyte... Mnemonosyte... Sanguinyte..., oh, an amusing thought passed through Dakkur's mind as his eyes glanced upon that one but no. Making a large batch of Viscerite all at once might seem like a simple idea but practically, Dakkur knew the more varied the materials they had to work with the more complications could happen so it was important to narrow tit down as much as possible. Pyrolyth seemed to be the most of what they had although the suggestion of using those was dismissed since they were reserved for another project which left them with the second most Dragonshard, Terrasyte.
It was a shame as Dakkur thought caster shells made of Pyrolyth could make for some interesting ammunition: a proposal the much more experienced runesmith he works with concurred while reiterating the idea runesmithing was only limited by the imagination and the resources available to a runesmith. It was pointed out the element of fire, as the other had experimented on in the past meant it was possible to make cruel shells which would cauterize a wound when shot through to the useful shells which can glow in the dark. Or at least that was the theory from based off a few blades he once made. The reason the idea would have been shot down even if the Pyrolyth was not already attached to another project was more of a practical business consideration. Mass produced standardized shells? Just a repeat of what was already made before over and over again- so much so there was a standard already in place but for something more distinctive, any excuse from time and exclusivity could me made to rack up the price more.
As it had already been more than half of a year for Dakkur to benefit from this working arrangement, he also had the inadvertent benefit of being able to pick up on the other's working habits that he could arrange the workspace quickly. So that they could make just about as much Viscerite as they needed for the shells they planned to stock up on, a bunch of Terrasyte shards were arranged from big to small all around the aether forge which had nearly every other tool vacated since not even needing those, the last thing they needed was to trip up over them and add in needless complications to the process. With that, he was... not done. While what he had prepared would have been ideal for making a large batch of Viscerite, that was not the only thing which had to be done. There was still casting the Viscerite and fashioning them into shells. With a schedule which didn't have an allowance for Dakkur to be irritated, he rushed to retrieve some of the tools back and set them to the side where they could quickly be used to process the Viscerite.
At the very least for the rest of the day and the day after Dakkur wasn't needed for much of the process and stuck around only to extend his assistance every now and then, as if that was needed at all since it was the most Dakkur could do to keep his primary runesmith comfortable and able to commit his full attention to monitoring the aether forge. The only time Dakkur felt like he himself was a runesmith too when he was asked to keep an eye on the aura glass panels around the forge and holler if the readings got too close to the thresholds. At least he had the training and skill to read those unlike the task of fetching refreshments, food, fanning and drying off sweat which any average joe could do; Dakkur would not even be surprised if such a thing was possible, he would end up taking the breaks on the primary's behalf and that was not even the bad part of it when he considered that it was during those breaks that he was given the chance to do some actual work!
Otherwise, it was a rather uneventful experience save for one moment where the temperature was getting far too hot although Dakkur was assured when it came to making shells, the ones which worked anyway, the Viscerite getting a little too much energy especially towards the end was something to be expected. The common problem especially with most amateurs like Dakkur was when the heat got really high and really early on as it could mean more and more of those faults until it snowballed out of hand. It took a lot of experience to be able to properly gauge the readings and tell the difference from the random spikes and the usual developments which was also why the brief breaks were the only times Dakkur could be allowed to observe the panels; at most Dakkur should only be seeing one as an assistant before running for help.
With all the dragonshards turned into liquid ichor, most of the heavy lifting was done and all that was left was for the Moratallen half blood to do... the literal heavy lifting; everything he did so far did not earn him the chance to rest yet, not like some people who actually carried the whole project. As he was instructed to do Dakkur poured out the liquid into the tray of balls, the ones specifically for the firearm projectiles. With that, it was the first batch done and all they had to do was repeat the process again and again for the next few days...
