Ash 18, 121

It was a crisp evening but not too cold yet, as Franky put the finishing touches on the night's event. Today was the Imperial tradition of Cider Rolls, which while sounding like a delicious pastry, and one that Franky would have to talk to a baker about, was actually a game. The many hearths in the bar had been removed and cleaned out, and Franky was now setting up the little statues he'd had commissioned by a wood carver. Each of them was a goblin, each with a story attached to it that had been passed down in his village. Goblins of old and lore, memorable and historical figures.

The carpenter was a goblin, another who had come from the Imperium, and had done a fantastic job.

Franky finished setting up each triangle of ten figurines in the hearths, before moving back over to his bar. Where there were normally stools sitting at the bar itself, instead was one stool and several wooden crates, the lids removed. Inside were many different bottles of ciders, all brewed by Zaichaeri brewers, from fruit grown by Zaichaeri farmers. The bottles rested in straw to help prevent them from jostling about. There was such a wide variety; apple, pear, plum, cherry, elderflower, honeysuckle, raspberry, blackberry, currant, and on and on.

Franky grabbed a honeysuckle, ripping the cork out, and tossing it over his shoulder into the barrel of corks he kept behind the bar. He boomed out over the early evening crowd. "Welcome to Cider Rolls, everyone. For those of you who have not experience this tradition from the Imperium, I'll explain it for you."

He held up the bottle of cider, "You buy a bottle." He then proceeded to chug the entire thing down, loving the subtle sweetness that burned gently at his throat. Once it was done, he held up the empty bottle, "You finish the bottle, alone or with friends, your choice." He then walked across the room, picking a spot on the wall across from a hearth.

Franky placed his heel against the wall, "Foot must touch the wall." Then Franky swung his arm low, and sent the bottle rolling and skittering across the floor toward the hearth. It collided with the first of the wooden statues in the hearth, which sent the rest behind it sprawling. The bottle then exploded into a shower of glass inside the hearth. "Knock over all ten goblins in one go, you get a free bottle and get to go again." Franky then pointed at the brooms next to each hearth, "If you miss the hearth altogether, you clean up your own damn mess. Don't be leaving that shit for Millie and me."

Franky then walked back over to the bar, taking his spot on the only stool, looking out over the people there, a wide grin, "Who wants the first bottle?"

At this rate Dakkur was going to end up a hophead, it had only been days since his last visit to the Hobbled Gobbler but today was a special occasion? One of the things this newcomer to Zaichaer had been told to do in order to better assimilate himself and blend in with its people is to get acquainted with the all the holidays and customs present in the city. Even in the season before he had heard about this cider dance in a lot of the locals excited conversations about it. Booze and dancing, name a more iconic combination. Well Dakkur could probably name... three? Maybe? But people in Zaichaer would not like them so he would rather keep them to himself even if they would be on topic. One day was not really enough to enjoy the occasion so imagine Dakkur's surprise when he heard the Gobbler had their own cider dance just a few days later. The owner of this establishment must be a pretty smart one, deliberately hosting the event a few days later to take advantage of the people who missed it or wanted to relive the event. This should be another fun show, Dakkur believed.

Expectations were far from reality however and the entire event was completely contrary to what he expected. Cider Rolls... How did he miss that key difference? So much for an interesting show but as he was already there... Dakkur studiously listened to the explanation of the event and the watched the demonstration which happened. Looked simple enough and while he was uninterested with the drinks it did not hurt to knock back a few. That and he quite liked the cute little goblin statues. Maybe if he stuck around he could figure out where the Gobbler got them from and, sticking around meant he did not have to rush into the event or put himself into a state of having to leave earlier because the drinks would get to him.

So he allowed someone to take the first bottle, then the second bottle, then the third and, the fourth bottle... Turns? A fighting chance? No it was nothing quite like that. Dakkur just wanted to see how those more experienced with the tradition decided to beat it's game. And so he ended with quite some time to finish a bottle of his own as various characters took their shot at the gathering of goblins. Once emptied he took his spot at a wall. Oh now this is nice. Being a large person with moratallen blood, he had that reach advantage going for him despite having to leave his foot at the wall due to his long legs. However the problem came with balancing himself as he stretched himself to the limits just to take his advantage of height to its fullest. Everytime he tried for the underhanded throw the from that first demonstration which was followed by everyone which came after, he could feel himself almost stumbling over.

But you know what?

Fuck it.

You only live once.

He switched his grip over his bottle, holding it by the neck and went for his throw overhand. 'Crash!' While his bottle did his the hearth, it crashed on the top of it way above the goblins that not even one of them budged. A major disappointment for Dakkur and it showed. "Why are we even throwing bottles at these goblins? What did they even do?" he asked angrily, trying to make it seem like his miss was totally not because he tried to get by through an easier method.
