Crossing Horns (Flo/Bae)

Ash 2, 121

It was a peaceful evening at the Gobbler. The lunch rush had already passed and the Lysanrin Happy Hour was in full swing. All those horny buggers with the shifty eyes got drinks at half the price. As such, the vast majority of the customers in the bar were Lysanrin. Franky was grateful he didn't have anything hanging from the ceiling with all the varieties of horns and antlers grazing about. It was bad enough that there was one with moose antlers, but he finally took a seat in the corner where he wasn't smacking into people anymore.

Franky passed out a bunch of drinks, stopping to take a sip of his own, as he glanced around the room. A couple of pretty Lysanrin women had set up shop at one of the central tables, sisters Franky guessed, with their matching rams horns. They had a wide variety of colored strips of cloth, flowers and small branches of leaves, and other such adornments. They were decorating the various horns and antlers for a very cheap cost of materials. Some Lysanrin ended up with flower crowns, others, their horns wrapped in a kaleidoscopic display of cloth.

Across the way at another table, a large burly man had his many little jars of paint and was painting incredibly detailed designs onto horns, promising they'd last for a week or two. And in one corner, an amusing new drinking game was going. A Lysanrin would sit in the chair in the corner, and a challenger would step up. From several feet out, using some six rings made of heavy cloth, would toss the rings at the horns of the Lysanrin. If the thrower missed more than three, they would buy the sitting Lysanrin a drink of their choice. If the throw made more than three shots, the reverse would happen. If the thrower would only hit exactly three, both would finish their drinks together, and go to the bar to order another round, together.

Franky could only smile. Each of the happy hour nights had begun shifting into their own entities. This one had far less of the other races, and not one single human. Franky knew many were superstitious and wary of the race, and in his opinion it was understandable. But right now, he saw a bunch of happy smiles of a lost people finding community that is so rare for their kind. Franky hadn't needed to coordinate or create any of the little things going on around the bar, the people just did it on their own. His eyes wandered over to a woman with a set of files and snips and such, offering to help clean up and groom various horns.

It was shaping up to be a good night, for sure.

Truth be told, Florian was a bit concerned that there was a Lysanrin night at all. People generally seemed to dislike when there was too much congregation of his kind. He'd been to Franky's before, joined in on a strange drinking night that promptly led him to black out and awaken in a room upstairs, but he had not been since. It seemed like another life, but now, in this life, he needed a drink. What better night to get a drink days before the expedition, days after the brutal murder of his mother, than a night when it was half off?

He felt a bit guilty at not having the heart to join in any of the festivities. Florian mostly just didn't want to be alone, and a loud bar was more enjoyable suffering than at home in silence. Compared to some Lysanrin, his horn didn't take up much space. It came backwards from his forehead and curved a bit, and extended just a touch past the curls of his hair. The only time they had ever been a space issue was when sleeping, especialyl when sleeping next to someone else, but it was a problem easily rectified. Some Lysanrin were not so lucky, and he had to wonder how they managed to get dressed in the morning. For some, the answer was obvious. Button up and tied shirts were abundant.

In his numbed little daze, Florian found himself sitting at the bar. He didn't realize how long he had been sitting there without ordering anything. He peered up at the hobgoblin — Franky, if he remembered correctly, the owner of the whole place — behind the bar and gave one simple request.

"Can you just... fuck me up?"

Truth be told, Thysbae was excited.

Perhaps more excited than he was usually. During his childhood, his interaction with the paternal side of his family was nonexistent. Even less than that of his mother’s side. The most he had ever heard had been slander, at best, and abuse at worst. Which, when not dwelled on and thought of in passing, could have been considered at all times. But Bae had learned the careful distinction that existed within his mother’s mannerisms. But that didn’t matter anymore. What mattered now was that he was able to freely see those from the other side of his family.

It was only a boon that this was somewhere far from the Monteliyet Estate, far from the reaches of the family. At least, he was sure they wouldn’t have sent someone to watch him from the shadows. Would be a waste of resources, in his opinion. His tail wagged slightly as he stepped inside the tavern, picking up speed at the sight of so many horns. None quite like his own, but just close enough that he had to wonder if they weren’t partly Fae as well. He lingered by the table with decorations, eyes shining with interest. The women beyond it noticed, and he was an easy mark to coerce into getting ribbons and flowers wrapped and tucked around his antlers.

By the time they were finished, he was a few notes poorer but certainly feeling somewhat better dressed with the added decorations around his antlers. Bae clopped up to the bar, not at first noticing the familiar slouch of the other Order-chained lynsanrin. But as he slid onto the stool beside them, gaze flickering over to them.

“Oh!” Thysbae’s expression brightened considerably as he turned on the stool to fully face the other. But the grin fell slightly as he took in the other’s demeanor. “Florian; it’s been a while. You don’t...look so good. Are you okay?”

Franky remembered Florian from the games night the lad had participated in. It wasn't often someone earned the honor of being carried to bed after getting black out drunk, but Florian certainly had. He wanted to get fucked up, and Franky would certainly provide. It was one of the chief tenets of the land for bartenders. He nodded at the lad, "Sure thing, lad. You've come to the right place." Franky guessed the young man needed distraction more than someone to talk to, at least for now.

Franky turned from the young Lysanrin, letting his fingers dance across the bottles on the shelf across from the bar. This was a careful decision on his part. The lad wanted to get drunk, and quickly, and probably cheaply. No need to add financial hardship to whatever other burdens were upon his slender shoulders. He was a smaller guy too, and after the blackout last time, Franky suspected a hangover wouldn't be desirable either. He smiled as his fingers danced over the one he wanted. He grasped a thick, tall bottle, clear and uncolored, carrying a matching liquid within.

Franky turned, seeing that Florian had acquired a companion, a well antlered slender lad as well. Did they not feed the men here enough meat and vegetables? Why were so many so slender and thin? Franky internally, mentally shrugged, "Hello there, what can I get for you?" He kept working as he waited to hear back from Thysbae. He grabbed another bottle, dark and corked, setting it next to the first he'd put on the counter. He grabbed a bourbon glass, and scooped some chunks of ice into it. He set the drink on the counter, and uncorked the clear bottle. "Vykuli vodka, from the clans that are constantly fighting them dragon riders in the mountains." He poured a stiff few fingers over the ice. As it chilled, it turned some of the ice into a fog that rose up and out of the glass and along the bar top.

Franky gave it a quick stir with a small spoon, evenly chilling the vodka. Then he uncorked the dark bottle, "Grackle bubble water, from the Imperium." He poured the tonic into the glass, letting it mix by the natural spin of the pour he was using. He set the stiff drink in front of Florian. "If you like it, I'll keep 'em comin for ya."
