Appearance
Spoonflower is half-goblin, half-grackle standing at 3ft 8 inches with gold eyes and a large mouth lined with rows of jagged, razor-sharp teeth. She has green skin burned in patches on her body and black hair. Her clothes are much too large and poorly fitted after being removed from the corpses of unfortunate adventurers. She seems to find comfort in the excessive fabric, enjoying the weight, but takes precautions to have the sleeves and extra length tied up when out skulking about. She wears bandages to hide her scarred skin, soaked in a salve to help with any itching. Her ears are large, missing notches, and out of place on her tiny frame, giving her a froggy, expressive appearance.

Concept

Feral grackle type who has spent their entire life in The Warrens. Spoo survives off a collection of gravel, bugs, and the occasional cut of meat or plopper egg. She is deeply fearful of fire after encountering a rage wraith as a child and getting separated from her mother. Enjoys collecting knick-knacks of questionable value and has an intense curiosity for world magic and ornate details. Prized possession is a wooden spoon with a handle carved into a flower, and also the first thing she shows to others. This is where she gets her moniker and has become a replacement for whatever name the goblin was given at birth.

Personality

Spoo is brash and impulsive when excited about something and painfully cautious when in social situations. She prefers to peer out from behind the cover of a door, or to hide beneath the table, as long as she feels hidden.

As long as they mean her no harm, Spoo does not care about what others think of her. They are secondary to her own interests, and she does not seem to have an understanding of social cues or personal space. She will often tug at the sleeves of others or even climb larger individuals if she feels they are not giving her enough attention when she needs it.

History

Having grown up without formal instruction and without a guardian for most of her existence, Spoonflower has learned to survive without the frills of life. She has collected almost the entirety of her knowledge through the observation of other creatures and possesses only the basics of spoken language. In terms of civilized behavior, she has entirely no understanding of society and tends to trust animals more than people. While stalking a patrol group of soldiers within the Warrens in hopes to collect scraps of food and cloth for winter, they soon realized things "disappearing". Quite cleverly, they devised a trap and ensnared the feral girl. Spoo clawed and hissed and tried to bite the group, but it was in vain. Attempting to get information about where she came from, Spoo was difficult to win over. They decided to bring her back to the surface, where she could receive proper care. They didn't realize how unwise that decision would be.

She escaped the day they broke the surface. As they opened the cage they had kept her in and a medic tried to gently coax her out for examination, Spoo crept forward and began to reach for the caretaker's hand. Then, fast as a cat, she reached into her pocket and threw sand at the woman's eyes, narrowly escaping recapture. Ducking and weaving, Spoo darted into the city, lost and overwhelmed by the new sights and smells. She found solace in the dark alleys and shaded hideaways. She often slept in empty barrels, boxes, scavenging for food and drinking water from gutters, running off when chased away by fellow homeless citizens.

It was a simple life, one she adapted too fairly quickly, only struggling when faced with another person. Spoonflower did not appreciate the looks others gave her, never quite understanding their language or customs. She kept a distance, spying through windows and watching how they talked and laughed and partied. She watched them feast on foods she had never tasted and wear fabrics she had never felt.

Spoo was transfixed by the scent of roasted meat, mouth salivating as she watched the humans talk, unaware of the child that stood nearby until a piece of candy fell at her feet. Caught off guard, the grackle spun around, hissing and jumping back. The child giggled, finding her reaction amusing. It said something she didn't understand and then pointed at the ground. It motioned to their mouth, pretending to eat. It pointed to the ground again.

She narrowed her eyes suspiciously, hissing again. The child giggled.

She saw the tiny nugget, wrapped in shiny paper and so she snatched it up, scurrying back again. She smelled it, licked it. Wrapper and all, Spoo tossed the candy into her mouth, pupils dilating as she experienced her first taste of sugar. She had never tried anything so wonderful!

Someone from inside the house shouted and the child said goodbye, rushing off to return to the party, closing the door behind them as Spoo was left outside in the cool night air.

Spoonflower stalked the child, circling the house. She stayed out of sight, but lurked by the windows, later discovering the sill to the child's bedroom. Every day since, Spoon has foraged the city for gifts, in hopes that the offering would be rewarded with another piece of candy. These trinkets have included, but not limited to, rocks, leaves, eggshells, bits of moss, sticks, an old boot, bird bones, colorful strips of paper, a shoelace, a dirty sock, teeth, flower petals, stolen hair pins and lost rings.

She has yet to discover a successful pattern, only finding candy on the sill now and again, but checking every day has become the highlight of her day. The family has since sold their house and moved away from the chaos of Zaichaer, leaving the goblin girl to find new people to keep her interest. Little do they know, Spoo watches from a distance.
