58 Ash 121
It was without dumb luck. Dumb because in his excitement Dakkur made the very avoidable mistake if he only just measured the dimensions of the end product when he was setting up his mechanism for getting the viscerite cooled to his specifications but, lucky because while the mistake made an unsightly and very thick base of box which was very noticeable when compared to the other sides of it Dakkur ended up with enough of a base to prepare a lid for the final product- as long as he was careful enough in cutting it out. However before he even started to do so Dakkur decided to remedy the error and made the proper measurements he needed before recording them. He counted and did some quick math so while it would not be approximate it would mean the next time he would have to make this again, he would have all sides as even as possible and then he began to adjust the pulley system he made; loosening and releasing the chains he dropped the mold it held ever so slightly inch by inch until it reached the height he wanted. After all gadgets were all about precision and functionality which speaking of, he would now be able to make functional and perfect boxe-

Oh no, that was when he realized that now he was being dumb but without any luck to make up for it because if he had done this in his initial attempt, he would not be able to have the benefit of easily getting a new lid as he had now. Dakkur groaned, an admission of his mistake which was noticed by his assistant who was still there- why was he even still there when the viscerite had already cooled? An acknowledgement of a job well done? Fine. "Thank you, you made sure the viscerite cooled perfectly. This. This was my mistake, not yours. You have nothing to worry about." The mistake of course did not seem like much to the other and while Dakkur was making new measurements and slowly realigning the chains along with the mold he held, he slowly explained the error and what he had to do. Actually if the other man was so interested "maybe you want to help me cut the viscerite so we can have a nice lid on it? Would save me a lot of time" and if there was any response which became a definite negative, it was the man's prompt retreat.

But that was no skin off Dakkur's back as there were other things which needed to be cut from the viscerite too.

Of course first it was the lid. While it was not like making his gadget, runeforging and by extension the gemcutting of the viscerite also needed a certain quality of accuracy and delicacy in its work. Also unlike him adjusting and readjusting his pulley system when it came to cutting the viscerite there was no second try. After something was cut out or cut into, that change was going to stay unless Dakkur was keen on redoing the entire process of making a new batch of viscerite or reforging the ruined one. Measurements were made on the viscerite, markings were made at the spots he was going to have to cut into, additional objects were brought in to help either as a guide for the shapes he had to cut or the depths he was going to cut into to make sure he would end up making less mistakes. That and a lot more precautions and preparations were made until finally...

Finally he took up the chisel.

With the lid being the first thing he had to make sure was complete, Dakkur used the chisel to cut into the base of the box according to the markings he made. He did not go all the way in as he was content with making notches first to weaken the viscerite and ensure there was going to be enough space for when he eventually makes the decision to go all the way. Plenty more of these notches were made and then he revisited the gaps in between them to put in more and at the same time made use of a ruler to make sure they were all straight. With the unbroken, deep slit along the base Dakkur took up another chisel and wedged it in, slowly and carefully pulling the now two parts of the base apart before retrieving the first, making the cut deeper, and then alternating between the two methods over and over until both parts finally split apart. It was long, grueling even but at least completed without much issue.

It kind of made him wish he had access to better tools, like those newer and convenient inventions or specially made runeforged products or those fancy automatons which left no room for error but he could only work with what he had. The other assistant? That was not a good tool either. He remembered once when the family was trying to train in working with viscerite and a big accident happened causing that poor apprentice to lose the use of his hands, something about rushing into it and being extremely forceful caused some sparks during the chiseling, sparks which reacted to the viscerite and then, boom. While Dakkur was not there to witness it he did remember the aftermath and wow did it cost the family a lot.

Dakkur put the lid on, found that it fit well on top of the box and then took it off again. Perfect. Then when the instruments he had prepared earlier on measured a nice circle on two opposite sides of the box. Where it was planned to have the misty air flowing into the box and then out and away into elsewhere and not cause the usual worries for whoever would be using the box. Again as he had done earlier, Dakkur cut out the two circles; another lengthy process and yet again accomplished without much incident. To finish all the work on this viscerite box off, Dakkur went at it energetically to smoothen the surfaces of; no worries that this batch of viscerite would explode like it had with that one apprentice because of how hard he was going at it because this was no chisel he was using but, sanding sticks of varying quality.

The box now being a nice and smooth looking piece looked like something which could be sold already but to Dakkur was not even finished it yet. Both parts, the box and the lid were placed on the runesmith's workbench and he studied both with the aura glass. As far as he could tell there was nothing different between the two, other than the size that is which was good. For a moment there Dakkur was kind of worried that keeping two parts of the same item separate might mess around with its functio- oh right. The functionality of the item as a whole. Dakkur put both parts together into a complete box and studied it with the aura glass again and was relieved that it was indistinguishable whether or not it was one whole item or two different parts.

As such, Dakkur found it rather easy to do the rest. With the tonal fork he looked through the frequencies, not looking for the material frequencies this time but something more along the lines of... colour. Aesthetic frequencies Dakkur felt, were normally the more harder things to identify since it was a lot more subjective in nature but eventually found the frequencies he believed he was looking for and marked them out throughout the box wherever he found them. Finding them all he started to tap the marked spots all over and already at the first one was pleased to see the new colours starting to spread out which wa- no, no, no, no! That was not the colour he was looking for. Exasperated he started to look around for different variations of the colour frequency and tap those too until he found the colour he was looking for and decided to tap it in throughout the rest of the box.

It did not work out as well as he wanted it to as the older colours still stuck around as did the now colours which became more of the backdrop instead of the box's actual colour as well. If Dakkur was going to have to describe it he was going to have to call it a clown box. Maybe if he could find a frequency to reset it or reverse it he could have gotten the outcome he wanted but he felt that would have taken too long a time and he was already far too tired to continue.

This was just how it was going to have to be.

With the box completed he handed it over to the boss to have him do the rest the next day and discussed what it was going to need. Some pathways within the box for the aether to carry the wind through, the aerolyth placed at the center of the box with even more forging into it to turn the box on and control the speed of the wind going through it, maybe even capable of filtering the mists from the air to make the item more efficient. Oh and one more thing. As if it was planned. There was one extra item he collected earlier in the day which was the comb for a musical box and a starwheel he tinkered with, quite easy to swap out the cranks for the wheels just to make it work with the box. "You just have to fit it over here, make sure the wind flows through this direction over here on this side, leave a little gap here so things won't get stuck and put that part over here on the top, there is enough space so don't worry" and they had their very own musical clown vacuum box thing. Wonderful.
