While those that had spent a lot of time around him described him as being an ambitious, protective, vengeful, authoritative, hot-headed, adrenaline junkie whose favorite pastime is provoking others into starting a fight with him. People also described him as a person who's hard to surprise and seemingly unfazed in the face of danger. It was due to having first-hand experience in facing Vampyres.
While those that did business with him knew better than to think that he was that same happy-go-lucky, easy-going kind of person. His business partners described him as a professional and a man of his words and will use any means necessary to achieve his goals.

To start, I was born in the sky. Crazy right? And no, I don’t have wings. Mom was tagging along with dad on one of his business trips when she went into labor. As if holding your child isn’t one of the greatest gifts, dad landed a lucrative business deal that would allow him to spend more time at home. I had a great childhood. We were not filthy rich but, we are blessed with food on our table and a roof above our heads. As their business grew, they spend it on building their community, giving to those in need. As a wise man said, you don’t get rich by hoarding wealth but in giving it back to the community and they will help in your business growth (plus due to the contract that dad has, even if we were to stop our other routes, we would still live comfortably till the next generation or more). Dad groomed me to take over the business when the time comes.
I wasn’t some rebellious punk who needed to prove himself, everything I needed was provided. I learn to enjoy the simple things in life and the value of splurging once in a while. But, my circle of friends was a different story. They introduced me to the bliss that the world could offer and after spending half of my childhood learning the ropes, I took the opportunity to set up shop. One of my friend’s brothers in Kalzasi supplied us with the drugs and alcohol that we need. He would give it to one of my father’s employees during their routine visit. Then the employee would store it in the warehouse and we would retrieve it in the middle of the night and distribute it to our dealers the following morning. A little side income doesn’t hurt anybody right? I made sure that the parties involved were well compensated and that the cargo don’t take too much spot.
Well, that little operation of ours cost the lives of my friends. If it weren’t for the timely arrival of my grandfather and my mother’s friend, I would also suffer the same fate. It was just another ordinary night for us. We went to the warehouse after most of the workers have gone home. While waiting for our guy to retrieve our shipments, I began making my rounds around the warehouse when one of my friends called me. They heard a knock from inside a rather large wooden crate. I told them that they smoked too much of those goblin weeds that their mind is playing tricks on them. We laughed it off, until the second knock. I shit you not, I knew that dad never transports living beings in crates because he has another warehouse nearby for those, and they aren’t sealed off inside a crate. Out of curiosity I grabbed a crowbar laying on the ground and tried to pry the crate open another friend went out to look for another crowbar. As soon as I got one corner pried open, the top of the crate burst open. I was sent flying backward several feet and crashed into another crate. It would have been better for me if the impact had knocked me out. I still have nightmares about that night.
A person emerged from inside the crate, a young girl. One of my friends approached her and as soon he got within reach, she jumped on him and bit him. The others tried to pull her off. We underestimated her slim and slender body, she got the strength of a giant. It was a bloodbath. At that moment I knew that resistance is futile, the impact still left me a bit fuzzy. I tried to lift the crowbar that I was still holding but my hand won’t move, I guess this is what they said when a person is frozen in fear. After feeding on my friends she made her way slowly toward me. She stood a few feet away from me, with blood still dripping from her mouth. I closed my eyes and waited for death’s embrace. Yet it never came, all I hear was the sound of something crashing into a nearby crate, a scream, and then silence. I opened my eyes and saw the girl, now a mangled piece of flesh and bones. Then I heard footsteps, an elderly man followed by several hooded people came running. That’s where I met my grandfather (from my mother’s side). That’s one way to have a reunion, right?
The following days were spent with heated arguments between my father, mother, and grandfather. I learned of the existence of creatures called Vampyre and that my mother came from a long line of Vampyre hunters. Dad was pissed since the Vampyre is inside of the crates from the mysterious benefactor that provided him with the lucrative contract. Grandpa helped in covering up the incident. Dad went to meet with the client, to discuss their agreement. One thing I knew is that the deal still stands. Turns out dad lied to the client and told the client that our ship was hijacked and some of the cargo got stolen. Grandpa decided to stay and reconnect with me. He explained to me about the Vampyres. At that time I was haunted by the ghosts of my friends. Wanting to make peace with my past I took the same path as my grandfather. I regretted my decision at that time. The training regiments that he planned were cruel, I have my doubts and wanted to drop everything and go back to my normal life, but every time I closed my eyes, all I see is her smiling face. After almost a season of training, my grandfather approached me and gave me a once-in-a-lifetime offer, an initiation into the kinetics arcana. The same magic that he used in that warehouse that night. Looking back, I’d rather do double his training regiments than accept his offer. It was the worst three days of my life. Every moment felt like I was about to be crushed to death. The aftermath’s much worst, I needed to use the arcana in moderation as pushing myself too hard caused me to have to bruise in some areas of my body and bleeding from my nose, ears, and eyes. My grandfather was there every step of the way, training and guiding me. After my first Vampyre, the nightmares stopped, I’ve made peace with my past.
When mom fell ill, I had to return and helped dad run the business. You see, Vampyre hunting isn’t a lucrative trade. The expenses outweighs the income, most of the time. I’ve only participated in two hunts ever since that night, and it’s been five years. Knowing that her end is near, mom gave me her diary and made me promise to open it only after her passing. Dad fell ill not long after mom’s passing. He let me chose an airship from his fleet (a symbol of passing on the torch I guess).
On one of my routes, I opened the diary and began reading. Sometimes, the truth is better left alone. I learned that the man I’ve been calling father isn’t my real dad. My father is a man called Dreymund Monteliyet from Zaichaer. As soon as I arrived home I searched for Sebastian (the man I called father) but he was nowhere in sight. One of the employees told me that he left in an airship after several members of the Guild of Coins came looking for him. Putting two and two together, I figure that it would be less of a headache down the road if I were to resolve the issue now. So I visited the nearest banking establishment. They were more than happy to accommodate the after ours. I spent almost a whole week of sleepless nights, negotiating and balancing the books. Turns out the business wasn’t as profitable as Sebastian said it was. By the calculation, even if I sold all the current assets including the house, I’d still be in debt. So I negotiated for a grace period. They agreed and put several of their guy in my crew, just in case. Finally, after several shipments, I managed to get the debt low enough that if I sold the remaining airship I would be debt-free. I reasoned with them, that even if I were to sell the ship, I would be back at their doorstep to take out a loan to start over. Thanks to the decision that I made about reaching out to them instead of hightailing it like Sebastian, they agree to let me keep the airship and the remaining debt (roughly the same price as the airship). After resolving the issue, I decided to move to Zaichaer (to be closer to “home”) to look for new opportunities or closure.
