Molten Growth

The last time that Nnerka had ever shared a space with someone during her molt had been with her sisters. It hadn’t felt so bad — given their molt took place around the same time as each other’s — and they had understood what was needed for the process to go smoothly. The horror stories of relatives having complications was almost akin to hearing the dangers of two-legged childbirth. A concept that hadn’t been appealing and made the idea of the molt all the more pressing as each spiderling considered the gravity of being stuck in their own skin. Not a fun way to end one’s life.

But for all the time that Nnerka had been in the city — a choice she had made only semi-willingly — she had depended on herself. The Madame had allowed her certain liberties when it came to her molting; her days cleared to allow for the process to take hold and her quarters sealed. Sometimes, even, a meal delivered. And by delivered, she meant some brave soul would knock on her door, open it, and shove whatever it was inside before slamming the door shut and running down the hall as if their life depended on it. Which it didn’t; she found her appetite was lacking on some occasions and she had never been one to waste a meal.

However, being here, sharing this particular space would take some getting used to, even with it only being a temporary situation. It was partly a problem that had involved a recent request at the Cabaret. Something about the potential backlash that had truly forced her hand on the idea. And while she had asked, it had been...surprising that Rickter would be so affable about the whole ordeal. Maybe because he didn’t understand the full details.

Even as she wandered through the home, she could feel the layers of her skin separating. Lifting and filling with the start of something she could only describe as slimy, the liquid sliding down her skin. Already, the usual rosy hue of her hair had drained into a soft cream. The pigmentation taken from her as the new layer of her exoskeleton came in. She fiddled with her hair a moment, inspecting the ends as she went to find an area that may fit her better.

She was hunched over as she turned to Rickter, brows raised. “I shouldn’t be more than a few days here — four, at most.” It felt a little like she was trying to plead her case, she realized. Make her seem like a welcome guest to any. But that would be hard to do, wouldn’t it? Not with the cooing children she could hear, the hairs on her legs picking up their noises.

“And my days of eating children are very much over. Unless provoked. But I doubt they would do anything that would warrant such a thing. Where are they, anyhow? I’d like to see how your progeny looks. They must be so...squishy.” She let loose a little giggle, no more than a little titter and click of her teeth as she rubbed two fingers together. "Do the little puppies bark? Or are they still blind and dumb?"

When Rickter had gotten a letter from the good ol' Madame, he knew to expect there to be a good reason for her reaching out to him. Turns out, she was highly excited at the fact he was a father. She even so much as demanded he bring the misses and the child, she hadn't learned of the twins yet, around so she could personally meet them. Then, of course, that meeting led to an interesting meeting with Nnerka, who apparently needed a place to crash for one of her 'molting' spells she was going through.

Though the wolf did have a hard time picturing how exactly that worked, he didn't linger on the thought long enough to even worry about it. Far as he could tell the apartment at the palace was large enough to provide, and, since he'd be so gracious as to provide her with such shelter for a small time; he felt he could ask her of a thoughtful favor in return. So, as he escorted her to the palace with Telion and the twins, he allowed her to get a feel for the sections of the apartment. Though not as grand as Talon's or perhaps even Shokoze Savien's. "Tis no trouble at all, we have the spare room we were setting up for the twins. It may not be entirely big..." He took a moment to her, considerably appraising with a sympathetic look. "but it's half decorated at the moment."

His eyes moved to the stack of wooden parts and two small padded mattresses lay. Oliver had finally finished and delivered their order for the cradles, the only bad part was, Rickter now had to figure out the assembly of it... which would get interesting. "I've gotta put their new beds together. So feel free to get settled in." The wolf looked past her a moment as Telion sat at the table with Hannah, each one in possession of his boys as they noticeably grinned from Nnerka's reaction.

"You really eat children?" Hannah remarked politely, if nonchalantly, as she gave Nnerka an amused stare. Kendric was the one who rested in her arms, the infant whose hair was a dirty blonde compared to his mother's. While Isaac whose hair was more of Rickter's dark brown rested in Telion's arms, the healer gently smiled toward Nnerka as she looked relaxed in her chair.

Though Telion and Hannah did laugh a little, Rickter did not instead he glumly glared, the mother answered in a warm lilted tone. "I wish honestly, they certainly yowl though."

"Lil' guys just need time adjusting to the cold, that's all." Rickter reasoned with a gentle smile, his guard clearly down when he looked toward his beloved pack fondly. Which, he looked to Nnerka then, still unsure about her but willing to trust his gut. "Go on, say hi." He even gave her the nod toward the pack, showing a whim of trust in the spider, now that she was practically in his den. Here, she would be his guest. And for the next four days, she would have to certainly be well accompanied with things around here.

"I've also thrown every spare pillow with a few blankets in the room for you as well." Telion noted as she waited to see who Nnerka would approach first. "If there's anything you need, let me know and I"ll do what I can."

"Every side attacks you when you don't pick sides."
