Frost 75th, 121

Before him was a map of the neighboring territories that encompassed the Wildking's Forge on the table, the dragonshard lanterns illuminating the room with a warm soft glow as Rickter leaned forward from his chair. The sun had not yet risen and yet already, Talon had gone off with Aoren to deal with Kalzasi's latest threat. If they found whoever was responsible behind the avalanche that came crashing down, then Rickter knew for certain their fate would be sealed at the hands of the Draegir. The wolf loved his Bondmate for who he was, and very well understood the levity Talon held towards others he cared for. When a person had drawn the prince's ire there was no real salvation to be found, at least, not unless the force of Justice had any mercy left within him that is.

"What are you thinking?" Telion inquired as she came out from the other room, the twins still sound asleep as she adjusted her nightgown once more. The wolf's blue eyes glistened with the amber flames of the lanterns when they lifted toward her, his gaze already somewhat weary but heavy with contemplation.

"Pinpointing the exact location of the wreckage will not be easy..." He remarked as he lowered his gaze back to the map, with Telion drawing nearer to the table to see where his finger led to point. "For all we know the Merry Behemoth could've touchdown here somewhere." The tip of his finger drew a rough circle across the smooth parchment, hinting at the southern region between the Astralar Mountains and Zeraphesh before he pulled the digit away. "Pulling off a search will take time though, more time than I would like to use in finding the wreckage. Especially if I were to track it down alone..."

"Heh." the snyde remark of their roguish friend softly filled the room, as Hannah stepped in through the cracked door to their apartment with just her casual wear on. Rickter himself merely donned a pair of slacks as his runes glimmered off bare skin, his fingers brushing through his beard when he and Telion looked to Hannah's sultry entry. "If you think you alone or just a few people are going to pull this off in just a short manner of time, then you have another thing coming Rickter."

"I don't. I already know how impossible the task is just for one person alone," he confirmed with heavy eyes back down to the parchment, "all the same time is crucial in this endeavor. It'll take all day to prepare for this journey, from gathering the materials to the eyes that will assist in this search. We'll need as many resources as we can gather..." An overwhelming amount at that, which already intimidated the wolf just thinking about it. Yet the uncertainty within his heart became filled with reassurance, and the wolf clutched that part of his chest knowing that both of his Bondmates were encouraging him from a distance.

"So then let us help," Telion urged with a stern look at her lover, "you don't have to shoulder everything, Rickter."

"She's right," Hannah then remarked as Rickter looked to both of them warily, "You want this done efficiently? Then you better let us take on some of the weight. You can't expect to handle all of it on your own." The wolf groaned to himself lowly with a few soft mutters, his eyes locked back to the map yet again as though he wanted to weigh his options. Yet he didn't. He learned to trust his companions with matters before, and he understood the role given to him when his time came back then. The Warrens... and Zaichaer. Both had taught him much in just the span of a few seasons, and now a year later, here he was stepping up to serve as yet a guardian once more.

It would be tough, but he knew the limitations of his allies in this, and as well as their personal strengths also. Therefore when he came to lean back into his chair, his eyes moved to Hannah as the rogue herself found a spot at the table. "Very well. We've need of scouts and volunteers to help spread the search. The Astralar Mountain ranges possess some familiar known dangers, but none of us have ever beyond to the south beyond them... So what do you suggest?"

"If this is going to be an expedition beyond the southern Astralar range, then we'll need to consider the amount of rations we'll need to feed everyone along the way. Also, the fact that the Frost is a danger all on its own, the weather will not be our ally up there during our search."

"And depending on how we go about this, Wolfman, combing the terrain won't be a walk in the park either. For those like you and me, travel can be easy as blinking and vaulting. But with that in mind, we can't go racing throughout the area just for one ship." Hannah weighed in as she scooted the map closer to her with a couple of fingers, her brown eyes studying the areas drawn across the map in depth.

"There's also the possibility of finding stragglers along the way." The blonde healer added in after the rogue. "It'd be wise to have a healer on board as well, in case somebody needs to treat injuries within the wilderness."

"Eyes in the sky and eyes on the ground." The wolf finally remarked toward the both of them, the ladies at his table gazing toward him curiously as he folded his arms. "If we have multiple parties combing the area, it'll be easier to find these possible stragglers. A group can scour the base of the southern mountain range for them, while we have another unit traversing through the terrain to find the crash zone." He remarked with consideration as to where Zeraphesh was located, concerned with the amount of ground they already had to cover.

"And the eyes in the sky?"

"Skyguard." He quickly remarked. "Preferably Icewing Eagle riders. Their birds can help them navigate the wintry conditions, and if they can scout the areas we struggle covering, then they'll have an easier time spotting the fallen ship. The problem is..."

"Coordination." Telion quickly pointed out as the wolf and rogue paid her mind. "Bearing in mind the amount of resources you'll need to look after these groups, coordinating the search with them won't be a walk in the park either. The Wildkking's Forge won't be entirely safe and neither the base of the mountain range, any volunteers we have aiding the expedition will need to be able to handle the wildlife we're bound to come across."

"Each group will have different problems to contend with. The ground troops will have the lowest visibility but less danger, while the aerial troops will have the creatures that can fly to contend with. So that means everyone will need serious protection on top of combat skill."

"So that means?..." Both Telion and Hannah waited for an answer, which the wolf looked grimly at the map once more in contemplative thought.

"That means we'll need more than just basic resources. We need Scrivened scrolls to create wards to fight against the elements and fauna, as well as other tools such as dragonshards to aid us personally during the search. Having a healer isn't a bad idea," he commended with a glance to his beloved, "however they'll need to be stationed at a base of operations in the event we rescue stragglers. Which means we'll need to set up a camp within a safe location while we search, and that our list of resources just tripled exponentially in turn..."

"Tell us everything that we'll need, Rickter," The rogue spoke sharply as her eyes narrowed on the wolf, "what all resources do we have to cover for this trip?" The wolf's eyes never lifted as he thought hard about the question, moreover, the growing list within his mind as his thoughts scoured at every detail they'd covered so far.

"We'll need a few tents to provide rest and shelter for those at base camp. I, personally, will need to stop by the Skyforge to see about getting a featherlight bag and... something that can help make coordination easier between the three groups."

"Okay, large ass tents, rations to keep everyone from going hungry... What else?"

"If you're keeping me, your healer, stationed at this base camp then you'll need at least a few elixirs." The blonde weighed in as Rickter looked to her curiously. "Jovmandr's Elixir can tend to any wounded while out in the field, whether they're a volunteer or survivor, until they're brought back to base camp for me to attend to them. I would also suggest winter blankets in the event our magical means doesn't work out entirely, since we can order Pyrolith shards to help combat the cold for each individual volunteer."

"What about signal whistles also?" Hannah then cut in as the wolf and healer looked to her next. "Out of everybody that's bound to help, the sharpest ears in our party will be yours alone Wolfman. If we provided signal whistles then that could contribute to the coordination factor."

"That's not a bad idea actually." He agreed with his eyes on the map once more. "My thoughts were to use Illumite based scrolls or tools to generate signal flares, but that can contribute as well, with a bit more thought behind it we can even utilize the both of them."

"You can use wands Rickter!" Telion's suggestion merited a look of surprise out of Rickter. "Illumite based wands that can send of flares of light! We can use those if a group finds a straggler or the crashed ship, and if there's danger threatening them then the signal whistle is what will be your call."

"Interesting." He looked thoughtful for a moment as he contemplated it. The idea was sound since he could easily vault to them with Spatial Mapping, but the real problem there was the lack of real vision in general. He could follow a sound practically anywhere, whereas, seeing where the group had fallen in danger would've served better purpose. And there was no way he'd be able to ride an Icewing Eagle either, not if he wanted to remain nimble enough to leap from one point to another within the range. "While I'll personally handle the charging of any Scrivened scrolls we obtain with Negation, that alone isn't going to keep them protected from the dangers for very long. The wards will be limited with their application even at higher levels, since they heavily depend on the users creating the shields in the first place. If I can just see where they are, then perhaps they needn't expend all our Negation resources just to shrug off threats."

"Then how about a Mnemonosyte network?" The healer suggested after considering his words, a faint smile on her face as she elaborated the idea with detail. "Lorestones are an excellent way of receiving information through a network, if you need to have eyes on your troops then a member of each group can have a Mnemonosyte stone, meanwhile, you can observe them all while they're linked to a central stone."

"That could actually work..." He commended once more with a thoughtful press of a thumb at the tip of his chin. "Seeing their locations will make for easier spatial mapping, which means getting to them in a timely manner to provide backup won't take as long."

"And if we go to a certain special Scrivener, I'm sure she'll be able to make the glyphs able to last." The wolf's eyes widened with a look of curiosity as to who Telion referred to, even though he hadn't a shadow of a doubt as to who was suggested in this instance. "If we're specific to how we'd like them to operate, I'm sure Lyra can create these masterworks to allow even Aetheryte shards to power the glyphs, this could be how we continue to power the wards at camp too if we wanted to negate against the weather and wildlife."

"Now there's an idea," Hannah remarked with a cheeky grin as she rested her head into the palm of her hand, "clearly you two were made for this sort of work. If we're going to pull together an expedition then we'll need more than just volunteers for the job, we'll need people we know that will be an asset to the cause."

"No wonder you stressed about making friends over a year ago..." The wolf sighed indiscriminately, which garnered a chuckle from the rogue.

"Correct. I've already a few candidates in mind that I can rope in for this task, but it'll fall to you to convince them of the mission and it's success Rickter. Can you do it?" The wolf glanced back over to his beloved with considerable thought in mind once more, the reassuring nod from Telion all that he needed to give his response to Hannah.

"Not really any other option." He added with a shrug of his shoulders, his back finally pressed into the cushion of his chair once more, as he released another sigh upon relaxing a little. "So we know what we need... It's quite an incredible to-do list, so where do we start exactly?"

"You can leave the recruitment to me, obviously, since I've already a few people in mind for this."

"And leave the magical resources to me, I can pay a visit to the Skyforge and to Lyra to get the items you request. As for the Mnemonosyte? You'll likely want to requisition it from the Skyguard, since they're probably the best resource available to obtain such a trinkent."

"Then that leaves the actual resources to me, along with any other important tasks that come into play." Finally the quiet wailing of one of the twins filled in from the other room, accompanied by the other as the parents and godmother looked toward the doorway. "Alright..."

"Time to get to work." The healer remarked as she lifted herself from the chair, quickly sauntering to tend to the children as Hannah looked to Rickter sharply once more.

"You've got this, Teli and I will have your back at all times." She promised as the wolf rose out of his chair next, the weary look in his eyes softening a little as he moved to join Telion.

"... I'm counting on you, Hannah," He added with a gentle look toward her, the corners of his lips faintly tugged into a general smile, "we pull through this then I'll owe you bigtime."

To that, the rogue grinned almost from ear to ear with a lean into her chair, her brown eyes fallen back on the map once more as she rested her boots atop the table.

A knock upon the door would interrupt the meeting. Standing at the door in his military garb was Soraken Alzahar, famous among the Rangers of the Sky Guard, wielding a rolled up parchment of his own. Upon being given permission to speak, "I have been tasked with giving you aid with my rangers. However, I am not the bearer of good tidings. This blizzard in the Wild King's Forge is not one to be taken lightly. It is one of the harshest we've seen. Visibility will be extremely low, and only my most skilled fliers will even be able to manage the winds safely."

He unfurled his map on the table. It was far more detailed, with topographical information and many individual notations. "We can either go slow and thorough or quick but precise in this venture. Anything else will results in far more casualties than the crew of the Merry Behemoth. And we've already received word that Zaichaer is mobilizing a response as well, though we are not sure how they intend to do so."

He then pointed down at Zeraphesh on the map, "It takes roughly a day and a half for the ship to travel from Zeraphesh to Kalzasi. When the storm struck, it likely slowed their progress significantly. Our scouts in Zeraphesh have confirmed no wreckage is found within three hours flight of the city, and we've likewise confirmed the same for Kalzasi. With all the rescue and recovery going on with the tidal surge, our forces are stretched thin. Otherwise we'd put the full force of Kalzasi behind this."

He planted a finger at exactly halfway between Zeraphesh, "It will take us probably three days flying to reach that point if this storm doesn't break. Traveling on foot or horseback would probably take three times that, at best. We will follow your orders, sir, we just need to know your plan. Whatever you order, we'll follow it through. You have the full resources of Kalzasi behind you, sir. We will find our people and bring them home."

Alzahar was revered, skilled, and known as the best of their rangers. He knew the lands of Karnor better than nearly any other. And he had the burning intensity in his gaze of a man who truly cared for those who had gone missing, for to him, all of Kalzasi were his brethren. He nodded, and waited to hear Rickter's plans, while providing his own expertise and council in the process.

As Hannah soon heard the twins settle in the other room a knock on the door caught her attention, the wolf's head being the first to poke out of their nursery as he came to approach the door to their apartment. Who awaited them on the other side wasn't someone that Rickter expected to see, thus, when he opened the door to reveal their new guest; Hannah rested her boots back on the floor to peer curiously at the figure outside. The military garb of the Rangers stood out immediately when Rickter gazed at the man, his blue eyes widening with curiosity when he heard the ranger speak in turn.

"As I feared," he remarked lowly in regards to the information about the blizzard, "the wintry conditions will certainly be of no help to our cause." That much he knew already, yet he wondered immediately if perhaps distributing the ten Negation scrolls out would allow for a better means of scouting the area. Thus with the invitational nod for the man to join them at the table, Rickter closed the door behind them before returning to gaze at the new map laid out. Telion also returned to the room but lingered at the doorway of the nursery, her expression also riddled with confusion and curiosity as everyone listened.

The detail of his map was remarkable in comparison to Rickter's, presenting more insight on the lay of the land as well as personal notes etched in by the Alzahar. "Preferably, if we can make this a swift and precise venture without losing efficiency in our search the better. I can provide whatever protection you and your men need, through the aid of Negation and even Scrivened scrolls. We know of a master scrivener to help in that regard, so if you have suggestions for the specific order we had in mind, then we'll take those into heavy consideration with our own." The wolf commended as he already knew this man to be the expert of this area, likely the best candidate he could ask for in helping run this expedition.

"Any thoughts on Zaichaer?" The rogue inquired with a raised eyebrow to Rickter, the wolf pausing as he looked hard at the map once more.

"... Unless they pose a threat, we needn't deal with them. If it comes to that, then I personally will see to holding them off."

"By yourself?!" Telion remarked with concern, as Hannah shifted to rise from her chair with a stern gaze.

"Just what is your plan now, big guy?" The rogue posed as Rickter looked to each of the women present, and then to Alzahar with a hopeful look in his eyes.

"If there's a place worth starting our search at, have one or two of your men head there with one of our Traverser's. Aside from Hannah here I know of another within the Circle of Spells that could aid in this endeavor. If we can transport all search parties to that point and setup the base, we can weather the storm long enough to perform the searches you need. Captain Alzahar, if we can keep your men protected from the storm for a few days, think you can find us the crash site before our enemies do?"

"Finding the next best place to start our search and going from there, huh?" Telion rested her chin in the curvature of her fingers as she looked more thoughtful on the latest developments. On the one hand, it'd save a lot of time and energy by moving troops from one point to another, but she couldn't help but wonder how Rickter still planned to deal with Zaichaer alone.

"The intention is to portal in, fly around for as long as our shields can withstand the storm, and hopefully bring back all the survivors we may find out there. The crash site has to be large but given the blizzard's constant presence, we can assume the snow has already started to cover some of the wreckage. If what we need is time to find it before our enemies, then bringing all our troops through portal is the quickest way to go about it. It'll save the energy of our troops as well as the amount of time having to travel there by other means." The wolf looked from his beloved back down to the detailed map available for them to peruse.

"I want to go into this prepared so that we come back home with as few casualties as possible. It's likely we'll have it rough trying to save lives out there as is, but my intention is to see that everyone comes home safely as possible." He remarked with a determined look given to Alzahar. "If your men can find us the merry behemoth in the short amount of time we have, I'll see to it they are protected from the elements and Zaichaer both."

Frost 83rd, 121 AoS

The winds howled from the south as snow and ice both blanketed the fields of the Wildking's Forge, those that had first arrived finally settled on the ground after their flight with the Icewing Eagles. A small contingency had been sent ahead as planned and in the span of the days they traveled, preparations for the expedition had been finalized and completed. Among the few rangers that had arrived a battlemage garbed with black and gold robes strolled through the snow, kicking his way through it in disgust as he fixed his attention back toward the north.

Trevor hated the cold. It was always the one thing he would never get used to up here, and yet, he had a role here he intended to fulfill and such was his goal. The mustached mage shook a horrible shiver as he brought out his hands, his palms opened toward the space before him as he focused. With a bit of consideration he waved two pointed fingers away from one another, drawing the base of his hands close at the wrists as he generated aether. Within moments the white powder that filled the air was joined with sparks of orange, a Railway portal opening at the center as the bustle of Kalzasi poured through from the otherside.

Beyond those that were determined to aid the expedition waited, their preparations finished as well as the first to lead them stepped on through. Dressed in his Skyforge Raiment, the bitter cold proved less harsh on him than it did those around, but the wolf's presence quickly brought a hint of a warm smile from the Traverser's lips. "I'll have you know, this plan of yours is daft." Trevor remarked as those who joined started to follow in from behind, the wolf quickly reached for his featherlight back to pull out the first of many useful tools at his disposal.

"Don't worry, the cold will be the least of your worries soon." Rickter assured him with a flash of a rolled-up scroll, a pat on Trevor's shoulder taking place as he moved to step past the mage. Telion and Hannah walked through among those that joined, the pair of ladies both dressed in fur-padded armor from shoulder to boot, the healer still wearing the hood of her teal cloak as she shielded her face from a gale of the blizzard. Noticing the bag Rickter placed down, Telion quickly rushed to join him while Hannah lingered with Trevor, the two exchanging their bit of banter while the healer reached down to help the wolf set up the base of operations in earnest.

"I'll get the tents out so that the rangers can help set them up, anything you need while I"m digging around for them?"

"Just an Aetherite shard to get this going." The wolf requested without looking from the parchment, the scroll being rolled open on the ground as he gazed upon the masterwork schema integrated into it. Within a few moments, he noticed the glimmer of the hefty blue gemstone Telion held out to him, the wolf quickly accepted it with a gentle brush of his hand over hers. Once the shard was placed within the center of the schema, he then focused on the rest of the design, noting where to put his hands when he needed to cast the shield out. Lyra had done an amazing job yet again, creating such a sophisticated barrier for this task alone.

The trick, however, would be keeping the barrier charged with an ample supply of aether, which was exactly where the shards came in handy for the task. With a deep breath taken Rickter focused, allowing his body to perceive the cold so that he could feel it, and in doing so cancel that out as well once he started to channel his aether. The scroll glimmered brightly beneath him then, the schema reacting to his aether as the currents traveled to the core. There came a flash of the northern lights from the dragonshard, before the aether within pulsed outward into a twenty-foot radius. The winds slowed but they never stopped, rather, merely stalled as the temperature within them seemed mitigated.

Overhead the snow above them started to disperse around an invisible force, as the first ward of their base had successfully been cast. "Nice work!" Telion complimented with a grin under her hood, the pavilion tents extracted and laid out for those who were available to lend a hand. Rickter nodded toward her before he rose back onto his feet, the portal that Trevor maintained now closed as any who accompanied them were now stuck in the frigid wilderness.

"Alright, sound off," The wolf called out as he checked to make sure everybody made it through, "this is where we set up camp. From here, it's search and rescue until we're out of resources."

Without a question, this was one of those rare opportunities which Shuai had been looking out for throughout the span of his not so long life. No doubt there were plenty of people which took the opportunity to join the expedition to rescue the esteemed nobles and their entourage who fell with the Merry Behemoth; whether they came for the sake of loyalty or profit or whatever else serves their own interest. Shuai was not one of those with such clear motivations however although he was also not one quick to correct any who would be mistakenly assuming his presence was due to him piggybacking off the Chisuo's loyalties in Kalzasi- showing loyalty for the sake of the family was still an important thing as a member of the family but, and this being one of the reasons the man was there personally, the bounty would be far more important if the motivation for Shuai is the continued comfort of his life and, just as important, the opportunity to cross blades with some of the wretched pursuers from Zaichaer everyone else was raring to meet.

But even the most enthusiastic of them would see that energy die off if like him, they were able to realize the full extent of the conditions they were expected to first set up camp in. Setting up camp, that would be tiring but even more tiring would be to endure the weather they were in before they could search for the Merry Behemoth proper. Would they even be able to face those from Zaichaer in tip top condition? Hopefully they too would be suffering the same way Shuai was under the extreme elements. Well Shuai was no longer suffering all thanks to the preparations of the leader of the expedition, a luxury those from Zaichaer probably would not have, hah! Nonetheless camping and hunting were some of the things which nobles did to pass the time but it was not like Shuai when he tagged along for those, did a lot of the monotonous tasks himself which left him no other option- other than to latch on to whoever seemed to know what they were doing best in whatever group he would end up being assigned with.

However as time went by he realized he might actually be making things harder. Even if his escort Ruborudean knew a little and could assist him, the effort seemed to become a smoother as soon as Shuai left it up to those who knew better. If there was one benefit from the attempt however, it was that Shuai was able to realize something he took for granted. Taking his bodyguard with him to the side where they would not obstruct anyone else, he slowly went over each hoof. With only one point of contact to consider, it was easy for Shuai to set the anchors at the horseshoes and then task them to the purpose. A green negation mage might think the solution would be in a shield which would block out snow but why snow exactly? Shuai instead tasked the reason itself, made more effective with spiky triangular shaped shield, to keep his bodyguard from getting trapped in the snow in his vigorous movements and providing enough traction for him to maintain his speed. While he was at it, another task just in case; where there was snow there may be ice but what made ice dangerous? That was what the other layer was made for, a shield tasked to also prevent slippery surfaces from simply letting Ruborudean go woosh if he ended up going over it.

Being so into his work Shuai did not even realize everyone was sounding off on Rickter's orders but seeing everyone going on one by one he could make a guess on his turn to continue with, "Shuai Chisuo, with the search and rescue team" which Ruborudean mirrored. It was not like there were any other reasons for them to join the campaign otherwise.

All Urs could think of was the cold.

He’d brought everything he had, worn it all, and still, he felt the freeze bite through him and ring against his bones. The charmed Tower robes weren’t charmed at all, he’d discovered, or not in the way he’d hoped. He wrapped himself in red, and for all he was sure he wouldn’t be lost amidst the snowfall, he felt no warmer for it.

“Urs Wardell,” he said, his voice stumbling, breaking, his teeth clamoring. The Midden, as cold and wet and dark as it was, wasn’t anything to this. There was no wind to make the air sting with frost.

He was grateful when the barrier manifested. Urs could feel the magic, that familiar tickle of something that sent a shiver through his body. He wasn’t familiar with whatever spell altered this space. He thought about the Elementalist at the Tower. How they pushed and pulled at the world, with only a thought, and how the elements responded to them in kind.

He supposed, if he cared to look for them, he’d find one or two wizards in the collected group. “I have a small contract with an Eldritch summon. Toothless,” Urs said, sounding unsure. He wasn’t entirely confident the creature would function here, outside the city. It worked best inside borders, less distracted by the vast space and able to focus on the things Urs sent them after.

“...if you have anything that belonged to her, the missing one,” Urs began, “It’d help. Not only them but me, if I relied on Semblance. I’ve used it mostly for help with surgery, but I should be able to use it to try and track or find some clues along the way. Hopefully.”

Little men, skittering around like ants underfoot. That was what her annoyance equated the presence of others to her as it had become more apparent that this was not a simple tromp into the woods for a hunt. At the edge of Frost. The fae wondered, momentarily, if she had ever seemed like someone who had cared so much for the affairs of this fair nation. What would have ever made that thought cross the wolf’s mind? Fingers threaded boredly through hair as she navigated the people invited on the rescue mission. Towering above them, eight eyes scanned the crowd for the familiar face that she might be able to voice her complaints.

Really — what made anyone think that she want to go rescuing people out in the cold and snow? The mutt would owe her big time. A complete radiation of apathy toward the situation as voices raised to call out names she would not retain for very long. Simply because she didn’t care to know them. Her preparations had been minimal, at best; as was usual for her. Her tipped to the side as she finally found Rickter, at the helm of this gathering.

“I am—” A series of clicks and chitters left her lips, eyes narrowed as she gave her greeting before they tapered off into Common — “But, you lot may call me Nnerka.” Her smile did not reach any of her eyes, wide enough for her manibles to push at the slits by her mouth. All eyes turned to Rikcter, before she looked down to her nails, then back up again. “Oh, right, I suppose I am also here for search and rescue.” Rescue. Never had she thought she would see the day she would do something for someone not kin.

The Rangers did not sound off, though their leaders were at Rickter's side for whatever he needed from them. It seemed that Rickter's plan was to spread out quickly. The orders had been given to the rangers. Teams of four, fanning out, maintaining constant visuals. If the rangers found anything, one pair was to secure the location, put up a flare every hour on the hour, while the other pair was to return to camp to update the positions. The teams were to return to base every four hours if they found nothing, so that they could mark off an area on the map. If they failed to check in, a team would be sent to try and recover them.

It was a risky plan, but all of the plans were.

Rangers were available to escort Shuai, Nnerka, Urs, and Rickter and company if so desired, per Rickter's orders. Several teams were immediately sent out, heading in the various southern directions to hit the grid boxes they had been assigned. The weather was harsh, visibility was short, and exposed skin would be quick to be frostbitten. All of the rangers were of journeyman level, while the leader of each squadron of four were experts in their appropriate skill sets. They were all survivalists, hunters, and skilled combatants.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Meanwhile, Elsewhere~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Is it ready?"
"Yes, sir. It is fueled, the crew is armed and prepared."
"Then go."
From one of the secret facilities just outside of Zaichaer's walls, a trap door slid open, ripping away the soil and plants and snow that had covered it. This exposed a ramp, and a loud, metallic, roaring noise could be heard echoing from within it. The sound grew louder, shaking the ground around the exit as it approached, and a great, metallic beast of a machine shot out of the tunnel, emitting massive clouds of pure black smoke from its many engines. It moved like a snake, and it approached its first test, a small copse of trees. The machine smashed right through the trees, sending splinters flying in all directions. The beast was powered by so many engines, that the soldiers and engineers on its back were stripped down in clothing due to the heat. The snow in the air melted and evaporated instantly as it fell toward it.
"The Rail-less Train, it's beautiful."
"Needs a better name though."
"Shut up Clarence."
It stormed north into the storm, leaving a melted trail of destruction behind it.
Urs double-checked his things. Surgical equipment. His clothes were, as far as he knew, well-enough made for the cold. Underclothes thicker than anything he’d ever worn. His shirt and pants, double-lined, and his socks and gloves were some sort of fur dyed red. His robe, the Tower’s, was enchanted to ward off the cold - or the sharpest of it.
He’d still feel it, even if he was, hopefully, not in any danger of worrying about frostbite.
He had a few elixirs, alchemies of various sorts, geared towards helping against the worst things that could happen to a cold body. Urs hoped that the dragon-rider had found somewhere enclosed, somewhere safe, because he wasn’t sure there was much he’d be able to do if she was already struck with cold-burn or anything worse. Necromancy could be used to help, but he hadn’t been given tools - or flesh enough that he’d be able to do a skin graft.
As long as they brought her back alive, he supposed that would be enough.
“I’ll go with these rangers,” Urs said, nodding to a group of five behind him, “Good luck, Rickter, Shuai, and Nnerka.”
It would be better if they were separate. They all seemed talented enough, and if he remembered right, the Faerie was supposedly a tracker. Those would be his skills, too, at least at the beginning. They had better chances of finding everyone if they all worked away from each other.
Besides, the rangers would - theoretically - keep him safe enough. He’d go to the ranger group and introduce himself. He’d tell them he was a talented surgeon and good with Semblance. If there was anything they could use to track the fallen dragon-rider, he’d ask to see it - he could Summon Toothless, and get that going, and start using Semblance to get a better picture of where she might be.
And if she was still alive.
