Palace of Spires

At the most southern point of Gel'Grandal rests the grand palace of the Emperor, the Palace of Spires so named for the numerous towers that stretch high into the air. Despite its name, the palace is not just one structure, but rather dozens of towers and mansions that are connected together by arching bridges and hidden passageways across an area twice the size of the Imperial Plaza. Its maze-like corridors spin in dizzying circles, and it is said there are parts of the palace that have not been disturbed in hundreds of years. The numerous towers which encircle the palace proper form a wall to the outside world, leaving only a single entrance open to the Imperial Plaza which one can use to enter the estates. The Kathar Legion patrol and guard the palace day and night, and it is not unusual to see figures drifting between spires, always watching from a distance all who would enter.

The Palace is a looming shadow over the capital city, but it also stands as a monument to the Emperor and his might. It is often said that the Emperor watches over his people from the highest tower, and so when citizens of the Imperium give thanks to the emperor they often do so facing the palace in hopes that the Emperor will see their devotion. The Emperor himself is a rare sight, and outside of key events such as the War Games he is never seen outside of the Palace itself. Entrance into the Palace of Spires is limited, and only by invitation.

It is said that each new Emperor as he, or she, comes into power adds on to the Palace of Spires and creates their own seat within it. Because of this, the palace has continued to grow and spread over the centuries, and the wealth and resources of the emperors have continued to be stockpiled deep within the labyrinth of steel. Those who have been allowed an audience with the emperor or one of his family have said that walking into the Palace is like stepping through time. It is even rumored that the archives of the Emperors of the past detail lost histories from before the sundering, and potentially back to the Clockwork Empire. In the past thieves have attempted to steal the secrets within, but none have been confirmed to have escaped alive.
