Appearance
Standing at close to six feet tall, Will has a somewhat imposing figure to other average humans. He is solidly muscled, but not exorbitantly so. He has a bit of pudge, brought on by years of homebrewed alcohol and a diet heavy in potatoes. His chestnut colored hair is beginning to show the early stages of thinning on the top of his head while his noticeably darker beard is very thick and wavy. When Will is about to engage socially, like his quarterly marches into the nearby town or when he is expecting a guest, he will shave and primp himself. For these occasions he has an outfit that is nicer than his usual wear, usually some dark blue top and sandy, leather britches. The rest of the time, depending on the weather, Will goes lacking in the eyes of his peers. In summer he can be found shirtless in a pair of faded, leather overalls or simply a knee-length robe that he will gird when working in wet conditions. In the winter he will wear his furs, which are admittedly homemade and reflect it. He is no seamstress, but he manages.
William’s skin has been baked into a pleasant golden tan that persists on into the colder seasons. He has freckles across his face, back and arms. In addition, one of his most noticeable features is his smile. While clean and straight, he is missing one of his front teeth. Due to repetitive abuse, Will’s left ear is a boxer’s ear and his nose is ever so slightly off-kilter from healing in an odd way. His entire body bears the healed over marks of one who was previously prone to physical confrontation. Across his belly and chest are knife wound scars. His fingers are calloused from both work and his rough past.
Personality
Will is ultimately a little kid in the body of a full grown man. He has a lot of unprocessed trauma as a result of what he has been through, but he manages it fairly well. While isolationist, he will be cordial to all he meets and seek to aid them if he can. Will is lonesome and bored, but should adventure/companionship bump into him, he is capable of acknowledging it and aiding in it. To this end, he tries never to lie, steal, or cheat when he can help it, but is ultimately not opposed to any of those. He is incredibly opposed to killing, but will also do so if the alternative is that others undeserving may be harmed.
Will’s most unique personality trait is how he sees the world about him. William sees environments as being just as alive as people, and will refer to them as such. When in homes, he will greet the house. When in the forest he speaks to it as though he is having a full blow conversation with it. What Will does not tolerate however, is the dark. Anything reminiscent of devils or dark entities and their worshippers, will be promptly ignored by William. In that vein, Will is very superstitious. He collects four-leaf clovers and makes rabbit’s feet for luck. He practices almost every custom he can recall to maximize his potential luckiness and to ward off wicked spirits.
History
Will was the eldest son of a simple farmer. His mother passed when he was nine, giving birth to his youngest sister. With Mother gone, the family only seemed to grow closer together, as each tried to care for the other with additional effort to make up for the loss however they could. The family raised primarily rabbits and cabbage as their main crops, and were subsequently fairly well fed throughout their entire lives. When he turned fifteen, Will left home one night to spend time with one of his friends from their modest little village. The two had been flirting around a potential romance that due to the events that followed that night, never got to blossom. As Will made his way home, he noticed more than a few shrouded figures heading southward on the road. This did not strike him as anything other than slight oddity. As he strolled past the front gate of his family home, he saw the fires prepared glimmering in front of the shaded silhouette of the farmhouse. Edging nearer and nearer, he saw the bodies of his kin and the twisted remains of what appeared to be some manner of sacrificial ritual. He had missed being a victim of this wayward travesty by mere hours, if even that.
Will’s life was never the same following this event. Almost six months after the tragedy he set out with hate and revenge in his heart, but never saw the fruition of either impulse. While he encountered those knowledgeable of the occult and secret faiths, he never did encounter any group who would claim responsibility. He had no proof, no money, no connections, and inhibiting of all, no hope.
Though not all was dark and grim for Will. He returned to his home village at the age of twenty-one, finding the company of those long standing friends and distant relatives waiting for him. With their support and care, Will now lives as he does, enjoying the life his father and mother would have wanted for him on the edge of civilization. Will now takes each day as it comes, doing his best.
