History
The Valentin family have been devoted archaeologists since the start of the War of Souls. For generations, they have safeguarded the continent by keeping relics and artifacts of power away from the wrong hands; violent cultists, criminals and those who seek power at any price.. These artifacts were safely secured under the watchful eye of the Imperium’s Inquisition, which has guarded such finds diligently.
Alexander Valentin believed that the mysterious artifacts he gathered on his many travels were the key to great power, and he dedicated his life to their safe transfer to Imperial protection. Sadly, Alexander was slain by a rival while he sought the key to one of his many finds; the veteran of a thousand traps and tense duels finally reduced to cinders. The pyromantic murderer’s identity remains unknown even by the family, but Alexander’s fate has cast a pall over the family in the years since. The Estate is now run by his son and daughter-in-law, Victor and Cecilia Valentin, who had two sons of their own. The first child was named Valentin (an accident on behalf of the birth certificate) and the latter named Oliver.
Though the elder son spurned the family’s history and worked for a bureaucratic job, Oliver took up the torch. As Oliver and Valentin dig deeper into their family history, they will discover a terrible blight upon the family. One that can only be mended by continuing his grandfather’s legacy, so this job was left to Oliver; the youngest of the sons, who believed greatly in his grandfather’s work.
The family had moved on, but Oliver kept on the hook, knowing that someone had to continue his work; a valorous mark had been made on the family once again as Oliver continued the legacy his grandfather left him.
The legacy continues to this day…
The Manor Grounds
The Valentin Estate is relatively modest for so storied a family, which has been the saving grace of the family’s finances. The estate consists of a great hall, family rooms separated by a grand staircase, and two residential wings, one occupied by Victor, Cecilia and Hillary, the other by the brothers Valentin and Oliver’s assistant, Synka. Beyond the main building, the house is equipped with a large gym and a modest garden in back.
The estate was once lavishly decorated, but the decor has quietly simplified over the years as Cecila has found herself forced to sell off relics of Alexander’s finds in secret. It still features many portraits of Alexander and his adventures, a number of old relics (which happen to contain less flash than their disappeared counterparts) and a veritable taxidermist’s shop of dead beasts, shipped from various destinations on the continent and beyond.
