The academy appeared to be quiet as Oliver was finishing his works, helping students fulfill their careers and lives by looking beyond for the truth. The truth was always important as Oliver had a philosophical view on life, knowing how much he could accomplish by having a bit of empathy and understanding for other people; especially the cultures of the land.

However, he had a dinner reservation with all of his colleagues as they discussed their uneventful lives, not that it interested Oliver, but there were much more things to be focusing on. For example, trying to prevent apocalyptic activity on Ransera. There was surely no such thing right? Well, the Sundering was one of the greatest disasters that ever hit the world, although Oliver wasn’t versed in that part of history. It was way too far back to even dig up records of those things. However, it was still possible, knowing that Oliver had taken liberty to learn an ancient language under the tutelage of his grandfather, he recognised most of the meanings of words, but it appeared that he needed more time with the linguistic translations of such a language. Their vowel sounds, the calligraphy and more importantly, the alphabetical order of some of the letters.

Oliver had spent all afternoon studying texts relating to Vallenor transcripts and ancient spell books that were found and confiscated by mages who were treasonous of the Emperor; yet it was up to him to simply calculate if they were a danger of some sort. He knew most texts were scrivened with ancient marks but that came down with knowledge. He thought he would try and salvage some of the pictographs to read, hoping not to cause an explosion whilst he was at it. As soon as he picked up the book and started tracing his finger on the pictograph until it lit up with a flame-like rune as it appeared to be charging up. At that moment, Oliver’s eyes widened in panic “Shit!” He shouted so that the students could hear in his office.

Two students stop outside his office to hear the disgruntled noises of Oliver struggling with the book; they look at each other with a look of concern as they knock on the door “Don’t come in! Gott Verdammt!” The students wince as they shake their head for a moment before chuckling to themselves “Is he wrestling with an ancient spirit in there?”

“I don’t know but I don’t think we should disturb him. He’s probably trying to stop it from getting out of the window.” Or was he? The scrivening mark appeared to be searing the pages, ready to burn everything inside. Eventually, Oliver grabbed the burning book and threw it out of the window.

Bang!

It exploded with fiery letters as students from below watched for a moment and gasped, screaming in fear as the letters of fire appeared. A Mark of Fire, I shall bestow upon the world, the world will be consumed by fire, ash and ember. The reign of tyranny shall begin as the world will rebirth in fire and ash. Enjoy it whilst it lasts. E. The calligraphy appeared to be threatening; the letters all crooked as if it was a message. A warning for something ominous, perhaps something that could affect the future of Ransera.

Perhaps if he had learnt the fundamentals of scrivening he would’ve stopped such an incident from occurring. The students were worried for a moment, yet so was Oliver; he was terrified. It was time to think; what would’ve Alexander done? He knew he needed to report it to someone. Although, he was irresponsible for alarming so many students on the matter. Crowds enter Oliver’s office for a moment as they scramble for safety; it becomes impossible to come out of the door.

He wasn’t safe himself. What was it. Some kind of assassination attempt? He knew he needed to look into the matter, for it would have consequences for the Imperium and the whole of Ransera. Oliver sighed as he looked over at his students “Calm down, it was probably some scrivening mage playing pranks illegally… I’ll see whoever is caught will be dealt with accordingly.” The annoyance was obvious from the commanding tone to his voice; it wasn’t just the fact it could’ve been much worse, but more along the lines that he had to fill out paperwork for the incident.

He was glad no one got hurt, but clearly he needed an expert on the matter of scrivening for matters like this. He left the academy as he whistled for a taxi on the road. He got into the vehicle as he slapped it in haste, signaling the driver to go fast “Die Große Kathedrale von Saint Aegan. Es ist dringend!” He spoke in Kathalan; he was clearly annoyed at the situation, but he knew he had to report this action to the Imperial Inquisition.

More paperwork.

Piles of it infact.

He exhaled as one of the inquisitors was present, he looked down at Oliver for a moment, knowing how much he would need help as he resumed speaking Common once again “It appears we may have had a situation at the Academy…” He said with a sigh as the inquisitor became alarmed for a moment “Speak!” Oliver was startled by the sudden loudness of his abrupt tone, but it was an incident that alarmed him deeply. Not just for his students, but for the whole entire world.

What evil was going to come from this?

Oliver cooperated as he crossed his arms for a moment “It appeared those articles the Inquisition sent me to study were… Trapped? I assume it was up to you to check for any signs of danger and yet what I discovered was a scrivened mark that activated at my touch and almost burnt my office down. It was lucky I flew it in a safe direction as it blew up. It was left with a message of some sort written in flames.”

The inquisitor looked alarmed as he knew there was always a possibility of danger in the Imperium, especially from outside forces. However, it was a mystery to enact on who exactly had the power to do such a thing? To implant a scrivening mark in the work he was viewing. There had to be someone that was capable of some heinous crime.
