Ale'Ephirum, Plaza of the Jeweled Arches
50th of Glade, Year 122
It was strange to be at Ale'Ephirum without Lyra, but a person could become accustomed to anything, he supposed. He had been assured that he would still be paid if he continued to do his work, so clearly she had some sort of plan to return. Finn had thought it prudent to keep doing what he was doing, especially given it dovetailed nicely with his own research in the Archives most of the time.
Of course, he still had to come into the shop and mind things from time to time. At least for today, he had only been needed in the morning. Now he could find some lunch en route to the Academy, or perhaps he would just vault there and find something on campus. He was quickly becoming more skilled with his new Rune, perhaps because he wasn't so scared of people knowing he had the Rune of Traversion as that he had the Rune of Mesmer. They could both be dangerous, but people were definitely more nervous about someone meddling with their minds, which he could understand.
He began to sink his awareness into the slipstream. It wasn't his first time sorting through the threads going through Ale'Ephirum, nor those in and around the Academy, but connecting them was always an effort. He wanted to be sure he had the most efficient and effective route so he didn't waste too much of his energy, and he was always worried that things would shift between one vault and the next, so he took his time, which was probably wise in any case. He would likely get quicker with more experience, but caution was the better part of valor to his mind.
Just when he was about to make the connection, he was distracted by footsteps.
