Ale'Ephirum, Plaza of the Jeweled Arches
50th of Glade, Year 122

It was strange to be at Ale'Ephirum without Lyra, but a person could become accustomed to anything, he supposed. He had been assured that he would still be paid if he continued to do his work, so clearly she had some sort of plan to return. Finn had thought it prudent to keep doing what he was doing, especially given it dovetailed nicely with his own research in the Archives most of the time.

Of course, he still had to come into the shop and mind things from time to time. At least for today, he had only been needed in the morning. Now he could find some lunch en route to the Academy, or perhaps he would just vault there and find something on campus. He was quickly becoming more skilled with his new Rune, perhaps because he wasn't so scared of people knowing he had the Rune of Traversion as that he had the Rune of Mesmer. They could both be dangerous, but people were definitely more nervous about someone meddling with their minds, which he could understand.

He began to sink his awareness into the slipstream. It wasn't his first time sorting through the threads going through Ale'Ephirum, nor those in and around the Academy, but connecting them was always an effort. He wanted to be sure he had the most efficient and effective route so he didn't waste too much of his energy, and he was always worried that things would shift between one vault and the next, so he took his time, which was probably wise in any case. He would likely get quicker with more experience, but caution was the better part of valor to his mind.

Just when he was about to make the connection, he was distracted by footsteps.

Frankly, Avamande had little reason to be in Ale'Ephirum's Archives. Their current tasks were of a workmanlike nature that did not call for any ancient lore or profound insight, merely the exact reproduction of the same glyph countless times to fulfill the endless hunger of the Sky Guard for more and more war materiel. It had pained them to say it, but they were... bored. So terribly bored. A jaunt down to the stacks on their break was perhaps not most peoples idea of fun, but the Hytori was not most people.

They had been walking absentmindedly, looking for something to catch their fancy, a tome or scroll that seemed interesting. The true secrets, they assumed, were locked behind some enchantment or hidden in some vault for Lyra to peruse at their leisure, but a house as vaunted as Ale'Ephirum contained great knowledge in its open Archives. As a result, they were about as surprised to see Finn as he was to hear their clipped, precise, steps.

"My apologies," they said in a soft voice, recognizing the familiar look of now broken concentration just as they felt the strands of slipspace which had been so carefully threaded fall and falter back into a relaxed state. "I did not mean to interrupt you, Master Finn." Formal to a fault, Avamande had never been told a title for the man that they found satisfactory, and defaulted to one of respect for someone who had been in Lyra's employ for longer than they.

"I had come to walk through the stacks," they explained for their intrusion, bowing their head slightly to the other man. "Forgive me, but I could not help but notice you were about to Vault. Would you enjoy company?"

Avamande genuinely enjoyed what time they had spent with Finn, inasmuch as they could enjoy anything, and had always found it a shame that what they had was so brief. It seemed appropriate to try to extend it, especially with Lyra charging the pair of them with watching over her holdings until her return to Kalzasi. Besides, in their experience, most people did appreciate performing activities with others.
