Within the Foundations of a Soul

I am with you.

Those words reached deeper into the more quieter parts of Rickter, into the depths of his being as the reaches within his soul shuddered. Throughout the frozen wastes the frost lulled to a still, the clouds blanketing the night sky somehow condensing as a warmth grew beneath the ice. The residual scar deep below released a vibrant glow, as cracks tore their way to the surface to release a ray of silver light. Like a fire in the cold of the night that light served as a beacon of hope, showing brighter and brighter as underlying depths of ice glowed beneath the surface. A gentle warmth spread throughout those depths as more and more light funneled through those increasing cracks; until it burst like a geyser unto the heavens above.

The clouds dispersed rapidly from the skies with a swirl from the pillar of light that shone, the towering luminance resonating throughout the expanse of the shifting ice. Particles of snow and light danced across the stretch of the ocean, the waters stirred into motion once more as the night sky began to fill with brilliant stars. Then he felt it. The wolf felt the brilliance of the Northern Star, his star, shine down on him as that warmth filled the very space of his soul. Talon's words reached throughout Rickter's soul as the other Foundations cleared as well, the night sky filling each domain with a serene beauty as the bitter cold alleviated the atmosphere.

The fields were full of verdant greens with sporadic flowers, the forests no longer dormant as their new layer of leaves sprung to life. The castle and mountain no longer endured the harsh blizzards of the endless night, clear skies finally bearing down on them as the celestial heavens glistened to the horizon. Rickter's first step into the restored oceans of his soul followed with the overwhelming presence of this warm, having not felt this since the night of the Call itself. With that warmth came a presence he'd had almost forgotten, having been lost within the storm that'd clouded his heart since he awoke from then. With it a glimpse soon filled his thoughts as Rickter embraced that warmth, visions of a room on the east side of a tower, with a cathedral window hiding his precious soulmate on the other side.

There was so much more to this vision than anticipated, most of it glimpses throughout the tower before the scope of perspective shifted. He could then see it was a bastion of spires surrounding that tower, and then feel the connections between them fill his soul with hope. Rickter knew now where to look within the Imperium for his beloved soulmates, and just like that, the overburdening weight of his doubts grew lighter over each passing second. That pillar of light still stretched high into the sky now, as waves lapped away from the pulsations felt from the power of the emblem. Every thought he held onto, every bad memory that had scarred his heart, all of the pain induced from that withered as he felt clarity sink into him now.

Rickter was aware now, able to see the path he'd walked once more. Looking up to the night sky above he admired the pillar for all it's beauty, the font of Talon's will felt through that light as it empowered the wolf. Even here, in this space, his emblem resonated with a rapid warmth flowing throughout his entire body. "Talon?" To feel the reminder of his soulmate's boundless love, the waters stirred around Rickter as his own aura manifested. Deep blue mist shimmered from his outline as the Emblem brightened on his arm. Soon that aura became wreathed by a silver flame as Rickter felt his hand rest over his own core.

"Hold on, love!" He clenched his fist with intense determination on the pillar, as the light finally began to recede back down to the depths of the sea below. Yet still, Rickter felt that warmth, clung to it even, as he kept his eyes on the sky once more. He had almost strayed from the path he'd chosen, but now, the wolf could see clearly where his destination was ahead. The way to dawn loomed just over the horizon, and for once the stars were out on a clear night.

"I'm coming."

In the fullness of that moment, with the full might of his mental faculties at his disposal, he flooded his warmth into the sacred house of his sorumeito’s soul. He funneled every ounce of Hope and Love that he had for Rickter through the power of the two marks that were emblazoned upon his soul. He did this just as much for himself as he did for Rickter. He could not go to Rickter. That hurt him more than he could admit. He could not take the wolf into his arms. He could not break the chains that kept him shackled to the tower floor. It was an infuriating shred of distance that kept them apart but in that moment, he saw just how deep into the well of his own darkness his beloved had been.

Oh, Rickter…

Through the divine link granted him by the touch of his Emblem, Talon brought the two men he loved most in this world close to him. He gave everything he could to both of them. Gifting them the full radiance of his Hope and Light. He saw not only the depths of Rickter’s inner darkness but he bore the full breadth of Aoren’s as well.

And it pained and horrified him.

But fury would do nothing in this moment. So Talon clung to the peace and hope that filled him. Justice alone could not mend this rift. Light could not fully illuminate this darkness. But Hope…that was what could restore a thing that had been so broken.

Forgive me, I was not strong enough to protect you.

But I will never leave you.

Feel me. Take my strength. Take everything you need.

I am with you.

Talon gave to Rickter and to Aoren, all that he could with the sliver of time that he had left.

I will fight. For you.

It was the only promise he could make. He would resist with all of his strength. He had to.

After his words the wolf had felt his lover's own words resonate throughout the house of his soul, his somber gaze ever more hopeful as those two words were the first to cross into that threshold. Oh, Rickter… How many times before would the wolf do something, or even say something, that sparked such a genuine reaction from the man he had loved. That he still loved even beneath all the turmoil, buried deeply from the light of this world. Rickter could have never let go of any of it, no matter what created such a massive fissure within their Bond.

Rickter's breath heightened as he still watched the celestial skies above, Talon's voice echoed through to him from the North Star radiantly shining overhead. I am with you. Those words gave him more and more hope, as the silver light beneath the waves still glowed, giving the boundless ocean a sheen of radiance from where Rickter stood.

"I know... I'm sorry I'd forgotten." He remarked with a hand rested over his core, with his fingers clutched at the fabric of his shirt, as he felt a fire raging deep within his heart once more. "I just need a bit longer. So please, hold on!"

I will fight. For you.

Rickter's eyes narrowed as the waters around him rippled and shifted, pulsations waved outward from his position as he started to take the next step forward. This was his path to follow now, after all, his journey to make and the wolf wouldn't waste another second. "Good! Fight on, fight hard!" The wolf urged almost desperately but his words didn't stem from despair, instead, they burned with the hope that brilliantly shone within the depths of his soul. Rickter's figure began to radiate a pillar of silver flames now, the oceans around him swirling as he started into a run.

If I do this, He convinced himself, if I give this everything I have... then Fate and Destiny be damned! The waters by him rolled and crested as they started into a wave behind him, before the tides pulled outward to generate a path between watery trenches. Memories soon filled those shimmering depths as he continued to run, memories of everyone he'd met for two years. Of all the times he'd spent learning and caring, of fighting for the ones that he truly come to love within that span of time. I will fight too! The wolf's entire form released a burning aura of silver light now, his mind focused on the present moment once more as he geared himself for what remained ahead.

It was a dark and chaotic time in the waking world now, but for Rickter, it would be a time most crucial for him to act. And with the reminder and blessing of his beloved, the shadows looming over his heart would no longer hold him back. Rickter would carry out his duties to his Bondmates, and give it everything he had to see them once more.

With as much energy as he could put into them he ran hard, his legs on the verge of aching from the continued ferocity of his pace. Behind him the waters were now alit with bright flames, spreading across the surface as the sea seemed to be getting tumultuous in return. He had one shot at this and that much he knew, just one shot of reaching for the stars this one time... And yet he couldn't stop thinking about the ones he loved. Rickter's journey had started because of them all, and it was because of them that he stood ready to face the dangers ahead.

He thought of when he'd first met Hannah and Telion both, and how quickly those two became the essential core of his pack. Then there was the two men who'd changed his life as well, and given him a higher purpose than simply living to earn your next meal. There were such fond memories of the ones that he'd loved, of the people they had introduced him to over the last two years, as well as the hard times that even made it difficult to be around others. Regardless they all had brought out the best in Rickter, and made him strive to be something better than what he was worth.

Now though he didn't feel that way at all, and though he missed and craved to feel the warmth of their embraces once more, Rickter felt comfortable with moving forward on this path. It had been a road he'd nearly strayed from after his transgressions, but nonetheless, he was committed to it even within the bleakest of times. That was why he kept pushing himself onward, ignoring the fire burning through him as he continued to persevere.

"Listen Rickter," Alistor's voice resonated through him as he kept going, "you're only going to have one chance at this. Understand? When that moment comes you must say these words!"

Rickter listened with his heart as he paid close attention to his thoughts, glimpses of what Alistair wanted to share raced through his mind as he braced his legs into a bend for a jump.

Alistor pressed his hands together with hot tears stained to his cheeks, as he looked to the knelt figure of his older brother Odison before him. The Dark Mage's clothes was tattered from the fray they had already engaged in, with Alistor's sword planted firmly between him and his brother. Odison looked weakened as he trembled before the light that glowed from the knight's weapon.

"Fallen Draegir Arcas, Lord of Oaths Akrivar! I call upon you from far-flung reaches! May your will and benevolence carry out the will of this sacred pact, for I hereby invoke the Oath to Order on this soul!"

You really want me to say all that!? Rickter retorted as he released his aura unto the space around him, his aether reserves burning a brilliant azure fire as he charged onward toward the heavens. He felt a crushing force against him as he ascended but Rickter soared ever higher, determined to push beyond that boundary as if it were any other limitation.

"Yes!" Alistor commanded as the wolf's entire body burst into a rising comet for the stars, Rickter's gaze narrowing on the northern star as he aimed for its direction. The sea beneath him rolled before bursting into a surge fifty feet after him, the mass of water and flames piling higher after him as he grew closer to breaching those heavens. Funny... there was a time when he'd did this once already, through the Bond with Talon once he'd been returned to the living. It was how Rickter first met Arcas when he crossed through that Bond, but now without it he was treading into the unknown.

And though that scared Rickter more than anything, he took that leap off that precipice, to carry himself ever higher to unleash his full potential.

For the pack. For Talon.
