The Under-Forge
Link to your Business Sheet: Business Sheet
Description of your Business Location: Within the Umbrium, situated within the auspices of the Sanctine District of the Under-Forum, stands a tall, rounded building splitting a thoroughfare in twine. Its windows of bejewelled glass carry an unearthly glow, its large double doors helmed by a large sign belying its name: the Under-Forge. Its products are printed upon a marquee just below, silvery font catching the light at all hours of the dark. Elemental Runeforging, Lodestones, and Scrivened Spells.
Within exists a spacious shop, every surface a smooth dark granite. Artifacts such as wands and displays, or even suits of armor sit upon reinforced displays, locked in place by heavy reinforced stone and sequestered away from touch by glass. Above, a chandelier sits with glowing orbs in place of candles, never dimming. A desk sits by the end of the hall, rarely manned, with two chairs.
A large sign standing upon the desk reads: "Customers will be seen by appointment," and a ledger for such appointments appears below, but any of those employed there might intercept a customer anyhow on a slow day, reading upon that desk. A one-way window peers into the shop from the manufactory, to assist with security of the weaker yet no less valued artifacts on public display.
Doors on either side lead to a large, rounded chamber with a conical roof, the granite, polished stone floor echoing with the steps of those hard at work there. White inlayed measurements and angles are carved into the stone floor, serving as markers for measuring and recording the capabilities of Artifacts for their wielders in meticulous Gnomish fashion. The common area is even created with acoustics common to the Umbrium architecture in mind, and sounds carry far yet not into the shop itself.
Various doors and sections stagger the edges of the common area, one leading to an office lined with shelves, and open archways leading into the runeforging lab itself as well as a nearby smithy. A bulkier, heavier door bars the artifact vault, to which only Aardwalden holds the key, and Elementalism must be used to engage the final lock of stone. That particular lock was inlayed with a Lodestone carrying his spell, so other Elementalists would be hard pressed to get it to listen to them.

Merethyl
Name: Vocrates Val’Felisith Merethyl
Race: Fae, Winter Court
Caste: Populus Equestris
Occupation: Runeforger
NPC Type: Companion
► Show Spoiler
Appearance:
With Fae'ethalan blood mixed with distant Siltori ancestry, Merethyl is a grey-skinned woman, often seen with chitinous horns and scaly protrusions from her otherwise smooth skin, and a feline tail. She wears a breezy, dark grey belted tunic suitable for the merchant class within the Solarium, and this same attire functions well for travel. Behind her back sits folded a set of dragonfly wings, functional yet dangerous for her to use. Her hands are tipped with long, black nails as sharp as claws, while moss grows down her back and beneath her arms in place of body hair.
Both of Merethyl's Marks of Control are worn proudly upon her face, with Summoning upon her forehead, and Animus upon her cheek.
Personality:
Merethyl is cold, like a flurry of snow. She drifts, always quiet, yet with an indignant, judging stare. Descended from military, the girl is haughty and rude, but she's smart and straight-laced all the same. If she agrees to something, she will be stubbornly punctual and hardworking until her end is fulfilled, but little more. With Merethyl, what you ask for is what you get, and nothing more. The only thing that can make her laugh, insofar as Aardwalden is aware, is that Aidolon of hers, Vozi.
History:
With a Fae'ethalan Silver Sentinel as her father, and her mother a seamstress of the same race known for producing famed embroidery within the Umbrium, Merethyl had much of her life planned out for her by powerful parentage. The reality of the matter is that her parents were cold and calculating, and so too was she, albeit with a rebellious fire. Her father gave her the Rune of Summoning and forbade her from learning more, but she gathered Animus from an old flame without care for his approval. He arranged for her private lessons in various trades, and yet the girl flunked each of them to frolic with friends in the dark, enjoying life where she could.
Everything changed for Merethyl when she acquired her Aidolon. The creature, a small nature spirit by the name of Vozi, became her pride, and she sought to learn all she could about magic. Her father capitalized on this newfound desire with several tutors, culminating in a comprehensive education on faith and spirits. Her father began to steer her towards the Silver Sentinels, but she insisted that she still had more in her life to explore before following in the footsteps of her father. She was given five years to do as she wished, and with that time she took an interest in Runeforging, learning all she could from tutors before more recently meeting Aardwalden.
Both of them were cold in disposition, so they worked well together. With her existing talents being of use, Aardwalden offered to employ and mentor her in the trade of Runeforging if she would also one day share her own Marks of Control. She sees the gnome as something of a father figure who understands her nature better than her own blood. Aardwalden has since trained her well in the few short months they've known each other, and he often finds himself leaning on her for creative direction in aesthetic pursuits, as he is a creature of the earth, and she a thing of nature.
Magic:
Baring both Animus and Summoning as her Marks of Control, Merethyl has a few differences afforded to her as a Journeyman-level mage. Her Aidolon, Vozi, is a small nature spirit in the form of a jovial ferret with a venomous bite and large, sensitive antennae sprouting from between its tiny, round ears.
Merethyl's Quirks allow her to present aspects of her Fae Glamour within the forms she shifts into with her Animus. This is usually without her choice in the matter, making her ill-suited for spywork. She also possesses the same venomous bite as her Aidolon, capable of inflicting paralysis and weakness within a few minutes. Among her totems are a raven, a prized show bull, and a black panther.

Vik
Name: Vikaestraszix (Vik)
Race: Fae, Fall Court
Caste: Populus Peregrinus
Occupation: Runeforger
NPC Type: Business
► Show Spoiler
Appearance:
Taking after insects, the Fae'ethalan looks much like an anthropomorphic grasshopper, quite monstrous and intimidating to some, yet short enough in stature that most do not find him reprehensible. His wide, milky-blue insectoid eyes are able to see things in a different perspective, while his largely chitinous skin belies humanoid physiology beneath the exoskeletal segments upon his body.
Vik is a mute, and therefore does not speak. Merethyl will do the communicating if Aardwalden is not around, but if necessary he will scrawl within a notebook, often using big words in beautiful font, having such poetic compliments to pay with the written word standing in for the voice he lost some years ago.
Vik's Mark of Control was granted to him upon his back, hidden beneath plates of chitinous armor. It is hard to know he is a mage at first glance, but one might assume such given his monstrous appearance within the auspices of a Runeforging workshop.
Personality:
Vikaestraszix is bubbly and curious like a gnome towards his pursuits, yet reserved and distant socially much like the Fae. An introvert at heart, he bonds with those who respect his need for brief conversation, and prefers to spend his time working or studying, hoping to one day invent an artifact that will return to him his voice. His intelligence and patience is why Aardwalden chose him in spite of his inability to speak, as dangerous as someone unable to yell might be in the event of a disaster.
History:
Joining Aardwalden's quiet dance of employees is Vikaestraszix, or Vik as most know him. He arrived during the construction of the Under-Forge, offering his services in exchange for mentoring. In spite of being mute as a result of his Quirks, Vik is a brilliant man from beyond the pale, grateful for the opportunity to work with Aardwalden. All he knows of Runeforging was taught to him by the Stoneborn gnome.
His Mark of Semblance was granted to him when he was just a boy, so that he might better understand nature. However, his collective was exterminated by the powers of that land, and he is private on the matter, wishing no vengeance, merely not to relive the memories by discussing the matter.
