THE AMITY DEVICE

Based off of pre-Sundering technology, a team of Imperial researchers discovered an interesting device with weighty implications. Dubbed the AMITY, it was a device first used for advanced golemcrafting, allowing Golems to be trained much more quickly, efficiently, and consistently than ever before. The Imperium, upon discovery of this device and its purpose, began researching it in fervor for far more insidious applications.

The AMITY came in two parts. The first part was a special slot, created through a careful Runeforging process, colloquially referred to as “The Lock”. The Lock, when implanted in the creation process of a Golem, was able to interface perfectly with the Golem.

The second part was a thinly sliced, impeccably shaped Mnemnosyte dragonshard called “The Key.” This piece of Mnemnosyte was recorded with a true master’s knowledge of any given skill or language through a process called Imprinting. Scrivened nodes carved into the skin of the master allowed the Mnemnosyte to perfectly capture the movements, processes, thoughts, and even the reflexes required for any skill. The Key was perhaps the most difficult part of the AMITY to create, requiring perfect clarity and focus. For languages, one would recite entire dictionaries and language tables; for mathematics, one would recreate rote calculations and complete complicated equations. Combat often required the master to fight until exhaustion, and recording magic almost unilaterally resulted in Overstepping, and on some occasion, the death of the mage.

The first enslaved Kathar died in agony when the AMITY was installed. Modifications were made to allow the Lock to interface with the neurons and spinal cord of mortal races, with rapid advancements in the surgical art of Necromancy made in this time.

Seven years after the first Kathar trials, there was a breakthrough. They had discovered a manuscript detailing how Keys had been created, in a destroyed laboratory not far from where the first golem had been found. With this guide, research flourished. It became not only important as a tool for training soldiers instantly, but an important tool for indoctrination and even personality molding. Thousands of Mnemnosytes were consumed and destroyed as they worked to create these Master Keys.

Only two years after this, with most experiments dying within years as their body fought against the intrusion of the AMITY, the introduction of Vitalis into their process allowed the experiments to not only live longer, but to totally and completely interface with the device. Now it was not just information that they could recall; the knowledge they had implanted became instinctive, as if they had trained for years. However, even with regular infusions of Vitalisi-altered blood, these Kathar lived an average of one hundred and seventy years less than their un-augmented counterparts, most dying in their thirties with the implant installed in their early adulthood.

The third breakthrough came when they managed to minimize the Lock, and install it on Kathar as young as seven years old. This allowed the Imperium to fully realize their earlier breakthrough of using the Keys as tools for indoctrination and personality control. With this earlier implantation came a baffling result: the Kathar did not die in their teens, twenties, or even their thirties, and the oldest Kathar with these implants have lived their entire lives with minimal difficulties. This also seemed to eradicate the need for blood transfusions, and they were officially deemed a success.

However, despite this success, the AMITY device is not without its downsides. Successful implantations - each requiring fine-tuning during the implantation process - number around 25% of total implantations in children, with many Kathar children dying in the process. This success rate has only improved 5% since the first successful implantations, with a higher survival rate the older the Kathar is, reaching 50% for adults. This leaves the Imperium at an impasse: they use the AMITY in a young Kathar, and if they survive the process, they will live far longer, and far easier than if it is implanted in an adult. However, an adult Kathar receiving the AMITY fare much better as the device interfaces with their body, but will live short lives with constant upkeep. Experimentation in both fields still continues, with researchers in both camps vying for increased funding.

As time went on, the AMITY technology was quickly adapted into a standard for training augmentation, with most Kathar carrying between one to three Locks, tiny enough to be hidden beneath hair or their collars. While some handlers prefer a more traditional approach, teaching the Kathar with the use of the Keys as training aids, all Kathar are implanted with these Locks as children. This not only allows for increased skill in the event of an emergency or war, but for convenient and forced re-education in the case of disobedience.

Playing with the AMITY device

Currently, only Kathar Knights may start with an AMITY device, chosen between implantation as a child or implantation as an adult. A Kathar with the AMITY may begin with up to 150 EXP in Skill Debt to be used exclusively for combat or arcana skills, but must follow all rules regarding Skill Debt, including the time gate for starting characters and the guidelines regarding earned experience on other PCs.

Additionally, you must contact a moderator of the Imperium through either site or Discord PM before creating the PC with the AMITY. If you do not include a moderator in the creation process, the inclusion of the AMITY in your PC will be automatically denied.

For those with created Kathar PCs prior to this posting who would like to give them an AMITY, please contact a moderator by either site or Discord PM and it will be discussed.
