Pocket Earth!

Garr had been experimenting with his Elementalism magic for some time now. He had learned how to use his magic to control various elements, but he felt like he had not yet explored the full potential of controlling any of them. As he paced around his family’s estate, he looked around for something to practice on. His eyes landed on a training dummy, and an idea sparked in his mind.

He walked over to the dummy and extended his hand. He focused his mind on the earth beneath the dummy's feet, and he willed it to rise up and form a small ball. To his delight, a small chunk of earth lifted up, and he guided it over to his outstretched hand. It felt rough and gritty in his palm, and he could feel the weight of it. He closed his fingers around the earth and took a deep breath, trying to steady himself.

Garr's idea was to throw the earth into someone's eyes as a way to temporarily blind them. It was a crude technique, but he knew that in a fight, anything could give him an edge. He took aim at the training dummy's face and threw the ball of earth. It flew slowly and clumsily, missing the dummy's face entirely and landing on the ground with a thud. Garr frowned and retrieved the earth. He tried again and again, but each time the earth flew too slowly, giving his opponent ample time to dodge or deflect it.

Clearly, physically throwing the earth was not going to be very helpful. Instead, he realized that he ought to be working on using his magic to propel the earth forwards. Garr started experimenting with different ways to manipulate the earth using his magic. He tried various techniques to push and pull a small chunk of earth in different directions, but found that his efforts were futile. He became increasingly frustrated, feeling as though he had hit a wall in his training. Despite his frustration, he refused to give up. He knew that he had the potential to harness this power and that with enough patience and determination, he would eventually succeed.

Eventually, he had a breakthrough. He realized that he could use his willpower to propel the earth forward, releasing a small burst of energy that could be directed towards a specific target. This discovery was a game-changer, but it still wasn’t like he could actually injure anyone by launching earth chunks at them. He could imagine being able to do so once he was able to control larger amounts of earth at a time, but he figured he was years away from achieving that sort of power.

Garr spent a few moments thinking about the problem at hand. He realized that his magic was not strong enough to throw the earth at a high enough speed to be effective. But he refused to give up. He was determined to find a solution. He knew he had to be creative if he wanted his plan to work. He closed his eyes and focused his mind on the earth. He could feel the energy of the elements flowing through him. He could sense the earth around him, its weight, and its texture. He imagined himself as a puppeteer, pulling the strings of the earth to make it move in the way he wanted.

Slowly, he lifted his hand and extended it towards the pile of earth in front of him. He felt a rush of energy flowing out of him and into the earth. As he opened his eyes, he saw the earth slowly rising from the ground. He aimed at the training dummy's face, imagining that it was a real person, and he focused on hitting the target right in the eyes.

As he continued practicing, Garr found himself growing increasingly frustrated. He was barely able to hit the dummy's face even when he slowed down the movement of the earth. He couldn't help but feel like he was failing at this new magical endeavor. He tried to concentrate harder, but it only seemed to make things worse. His frustration grew to the point where he considered giving up altogether. However, something inside him urged him to keep going. He knew that if he gave up, he would never get any better. So, he took a deep breath and tried again. This time, he focused on the rhythm of his breathing as he controlled the earth. He found that this helped him to maintain a steadier aim.

Slowly but surely, he began to improve. He started to get a better feel for how much power to use and how to direct the earth towards his target. As he grew more confident, he experimented with different shapes and sizes of earth to see which worked best. Finally, after what seemed like an eternity of practice, he was able to hit the dummy's face somewhat reliably. He grinned triumphantly, feeling a sense of pride at his accomplishment. Garr realized that he was only hitting so well because he was moving the earth very slowly and when he increased the speed, he missed a lot more often. He supposed his experiment was a good enough proof of concept and it set a goal for him to work towards.

Garr rested for a while and wondered if it would be harder to control water than it'd be to control earth. He pulled out his flask and willed the water to lift out of it and tried directing it towards the face of the dummy. He found that it was much harder to manipulate than earth. He experimented with different techniques, trying to make the water move faster and more precisely. At first, he could only make small ripples on the surface of the water, but gradually he managed to make it move in larger chunks. However, he quickly discovered that controlling the direction of the water was much harder than he thought it would be.

Every time he tried to make it move towards the dummy's face, it seemed to veer off course or lose momentum. Garr grew frustrated and tired, but he refused to give up. He knew that mastering water manipulation would be a valuable skill to have, and he wanted to achieve something meaningful today. Finally, after many more attempts, he managed to direct a small stream of water towards the dummy's face. It wasn't very powerful, but it was a start. He doubted that spewing water at someone’s face would ever be his first line of defense though.

Garr debated repeating his experiment with wind and fire but he decided against it. For one, he was too lazy to go fetch a flame. Also, he didn't know how wind could possibly hurt someone. So, he decided that it was time for him to call it quits for the day. He went to go lie down and massage his temples because he'd given himself a headache.

As Garr lay there, he thought about the possibilities of elemental magic. He wondered if he could control all the elements at once, or if he could combine them to create something even more powerful. He also thought about the ethical implications of using his magic to harm others. Was it really worth it to blind someone just because they were annoying him? He knew he would have to be careful with his powers, and use them only when necessary or else he’d have a bunch of those drawbacks that his teachers had warned him about.

Garr tried to sleep but he couldn't because his father had company over and they were laughing so damned loud down the hall. He got up and went to get a snack but all the servants were busy with the get together. He ended up storming off and leaving the estate. Garr trudged down the street, listening to the sounds of the city filter through the buildings that lined the road. He wasn't sure where he was headed, but he knew he needed to clear his head. He passed by a few shops, each one still closed at this early hour, until he came across a bakery that was just opening up.

The smell of freshly baked bread and pastries hit him like a wave, and he found himself unable to resist the temptation. He went inside and bought a treat, savoring its buttery goodness with each bite. As he ate, he continued to walk, taking in the sights of the early morning city. There were a quite few people out and about, mostly people who were on their way to work. He noticed a group of street performers setting up on the corner, and he stopped to watch them for a few minutes. They were a trio of musicians, with a guitarist, a drummer, and a singer. Their music was lively and upbeat, and it lifted Garr's spirits a little.

Eventually, Garr found himself at a square, which was just beginning to come to life. Garr sat down on a bench and people watched them for a while, feeling a sense of peace wash over him. He realized that he didn't have to be in such a hurry to figure everything out, that sometimes it was okay to just let things be. Eventually, he headed back home, feeling a little more centered and relaxed than he had in days.
