[Several months ago]

Garr had always known he wasn't the bravest of men, and this shortcoming had long haunted him. His lack of courage limited his potential, and he was desperate to find a way to overcome this weakness. As he walked the halls of the Academia, he found himself drawn to the idea of summoning, the art of calling upon spirits to aid in one's endeavors. If he could master this skill, he believed he could finally reach the heights he'd always aspired to.

After hours of research in the library, he discovered that initiation into the art of summoning was a dangerous and potentially fatal process. Despite the risks, the allure of power was too great for Garr to resist. He knew that if he didn't at least try, he would live the rest of his life as a failure, a fate he found even more terrifying than the prospect of death.

Determined, Garr sought out a professor at the Academia, a wise and experienced summoner. He approached the older man, his heart pounding with a mix of fear and anticipation.

"Professor, I've been researching the art of summoning, and I wish to be initiated," Garr said, his voice trembling ever so slightly.

He looked at him with a mixture of surprise and curiosity. "Summoning is a dangerous path, young man. It's not a decision to be taken lightly. Are you aware of the risks involved?"

Garr nodded, swallowing hard. "Yes, I understand the dangers, but I'm willing to face them. I believe that summoning can help me overcome my limitations and achieve greatness."

The professor studied him for a moment before responding. "Very well. I will explain the process to you, but I want you to think carefully about your decision. You must be absolutely certain this is the path you wish to follow."

As the professor detailed the initiation process, Garr listened intently, taking note of the various challenges and potential consequences. He knew that the process would test his resolve, but he also knew that the rewards were too great to ignore.

"Thank you," Garr said when the explanation was finished. "I will consider everything you've told me, and I promise to make my decision carefully."

"Good," he replied, his expression serious. "The path of the summoner is not for the faint of heart. If you do decide to proceed, be prepared for the challenges that lie ahead."

With that, Garr took his leave, his mind swimming with thoughts of spirits, power, and the potential consequences of his decision. As the days turned into weeks, Garr pondered his choice, weighing the benefits against the risks, and trying to determine if he had the courage to face the initiation.

[Fast forward to present day]

Several months had passed since Garr first approached that man about becoming a summoner. He spent that time reflecting on the potential risks and rewards, and after much deliberation, he finally reached a decision. He sought out the same professor once more, determined to pursue the path of summoning.

"I've thought long and hard about what you've told me," Garr said, his voice steady and resolute. "I've decided that I want to become a summoner. I know the risks, but I'm willing to face them. I can't continue living the way I have been."

He nodded, a hint of approval in his eyes. "Very well, Garr. I can see that you've given this decision a great deal of thought. I will guide you through the initiation process, but remember, once we begin, there is no turning back."

Garr's heart raced as they made their way to a secluded area in a building far outside the academia, a place where the veil between the material realm and the aetherium was thin. As they entered the dimly lit room, Garr could feel the energy in the air, the very essence of magic swirling around him. The professor began preparing the area for the initiation, drawing intricate runes upon the floor and lighting candles in a precise pattern.

"Garr, stand at the center of the circle," he instructed. "I will summon an aidolon, and through it, I will inscribe the Rune of Summoning upon your body. Once the rune is complete, your spirit will be thrust into the aetherium, where you will face the four spirits."

Garr did as he was told, his breath shallow and his heart pounding. He knew that the next few moments would determine his fate, either granting him the power he so desperately sought or condemning him to a life of servitude to the spirit he failed to dominate.

As the man completed the preparations, he turned to Garr and spoke in a solemn tone. "Remember, assert yourself as the master of your own soul while gaining the respect and service of the spirit you choose. The balance between dominance and cooperation is essential for success. Are you ready?"

Garr nodded, swallowing hard. "Yes, I'm ready."

The man began to chant, his voice resonating with power as he summoned his aidolon. A shimmering, ethereal creature materialized before them, its form shifting and changing as it hovered in the air. Through the aidolon, the Rune of Summoning was drawn upon Garr's body, glowing with a soft, otherworldly light.

As the rune was completed, Garr felt a sudden wave of dizziness and darkness enveloped him. He had been plunged into the aetherium, his spirit now adrift between worlds. Before him stood the four spirits, their forms both intriguing and daunting.

Garr took a deep, steadying breath, mentally preparing himself for the challenge ahead. He knew that his success depended on his ability to assert his dominance while simultaneously earning the spirits' respect. He approached the spirits, his mind focused and his determination unwavering. The time had come to prove himself, to demonstrate that he was worthy of the power of summoning.

Garr stood before the four spirits, their forms ever-changing and intriguing. As he gazed upon them, he was drawn to an infernal spirit, its fiery aura crackling with energy. He knew that choosing this spirit would not be easy, as it would likely attempt to possess him. However, his experience as a slaver had hardened him, making him believe he had the strength to stand up to the infernal spirit's machinations.

"I choose you," Garr announced, pointing to the infernal spirit.

The spirit laughed menacingly, its form shifting into a creature of fire and shadow. "Very well, mortal," it hissed. "Let us see if you have the strength to bind me to your will."

The infernal spirit began its attempts to possess Garr, its dark power reaching out to infiltrate his mind and soul. Garr fought back, using his willpower and experience in dominance to assert control over his own spirit. He could feel the infernal spirit's power growing stronger, but he refused to give in.

"You will not take control of me!" Garr roared, his voice echoing throughout the aetherium. "I am the master of my own soul, and you will serve me!"

The infernal spirit snarled, its fiery form flickering with frustration and rage. It continued to test Garr's resolve, pushing him to his limits. Garr, however, remained steadfast, refusing to succumb to the spirit's influence.

As their battle of wills raged on, the other spirits in the aetherium watched with growing interest. They could sense Garr's determination and his unwillingness to yield to the infernal spirit's power. Slowly, a grudging respect for the mortal began to form among the spirits.

Finally, after what felt like an eternity, the infernal spirit relented, its form flickering and fading before stabilizing once more. "Very well, mortal," it said, its voice laced with bitterness. "You have proven yourself worthy of my power. I will serve you... for now."

Garr breathed a sigh of relief, his body shaking from the strain of the ordeal. He had faced the infernal spirit and emerged victorious, his soul still his own. Now, he needed to form the bridge between his soul and the spirit, a connection that would grant him the power of summoning.

As he focused on the spirit, he felt the bond forming between them, a tether of energy and power that connected their essences. The process was exhausting, but Garr knew that he could not falter now. He poured every ounce of his will and strength into the connection, solidifying the bond between them.

Finally, the bond was complete, and Garr's spirit began to return to the material realm. As he awakened from his comatose state, he could feel the power of the infernal spirit within him, waiting to be called upon.

The professor stood over him, a small smile of approval on his face. "Congratulations, Garr. You have successfully been initiated into the art of summoning."

Garr rose to his feet, the exhaustion of the ordeal still lingering in his body. Despite the weariness, he felt a newfound sense of strength and purpose, as well as the knowledge that he had taken the first step toward changing his life for the better.
